1. Improving the automatic target recognition algorithm’s accuracy through an examination of the different time-frequency representations and data augmentation

Abstract

This research focuses on an improved automatic target recognition algorithm for solving the classification challenge of ground-moving targets from pulsed-Doppler radar. First, it was studied how decision-making intervals affect the proposed algorithm. Second, the altering of the data augmentation process was investigated. Third, a consideration of the three time-frequency signal representations and finally the use of different deep learning models for the classification issues were examined. It is proven that the proposed algorithm can efficiently recognize all targets enclosed in the publicly available RadEch dataset, with 4 s of radar echoes. When the decision-making time is only 1 s, a classification probability of 99.9% was obtained, which is an improvement related to the other research studies in this area. Furthermore, when the decision-making time is reduced 16 times the classification accuracy is reduced by only 1.3%. Moreover, the proposed algorithm was successful on another dataset enclosing ground-moving targets from comparable pulsed-Doppler radar.

Abstract

Cardiac autonomic dysfunction after myocardial infarction identifies patients at high risk despite only moderately reduced left ventricular ejection fraction. We aimed to show that telemedical monitoring with implantable cardiac monitors in these patients can improve early detection of subclinical but prognostically relevant arrhythmic events.

7. Evaluation of Novel Biomarkers of Acute Kidney Injury: The Possibilities and Limitations

Abstract

Despite the recent findings concerning pathogenesis and novel therapeutic strategies, the mortality rate in patients with acute kidney injury (AKI) remains very high. Early detection of patients with impaired renal function may help to ensure more aggresive treatment and to improve clinical outcome. Serum creatinine is still gold standard of kidney injury, although it is well known as an insensitive and unreliable biomarker (for example, its concentration does not increase significantly until about half of the kidney function is lost). Considering these data, researches and clinicians are making great efforts in the past decade in order to discover and validate novel AKI biomarkers. Kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1), Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), Interleukin-18 (IL-18), Cystatin C (Cys-C) are some of new, promising markers of kidney damage which are currently in the focus of preclinical and clinical studies. Recent data suggest that some of these new biomarkers represent important parametars of acute tubular necrosis (ATN) and reliable predictors of development and prognosis of AKI. Beside that, monitoring of these markers could have significant importance for early diagnosis and clinical course, not only in patients with various forms of AKI and other renal diseases, but also in patients with cardiorenal syndrome, heart failure, cardiopulmonary bypass, cardiothoracical surgical interventions, in the pediatric emergency setting etc. The aim of this review is to summarize the literature data concerning some new biomarkers, evaluate their role as well as their limitations in the early diagnosis and predict clinical outcome of some renal diseases.

Abstract

The paper is a part of a series of papers on an integration of HCI practice with a control system development through the dichotomous life cycle model. The dichotomous life cycle model complies with HCI society standpoints. The model makes it possible for a member of a multidisciplinary development team to fully contribute in his area of expertise using adequate methods, techniques and terminology. Furthermore, the model facilitates system maintenance activities and makes a final system more usable. Overall system development time can be reduced by a parallelism embodied in the dichotomous life cycle model.

10. A Formal Approach to the Control Interface Customisation

Abstract

The paper proposes introduction of formalism in control system development in order to reach user's mental model. The control interface consists of an external user dialogue and an internal dialogue (explicit) and an external plant dialogue (implicit). The concept of interface independence is supported employing macrocommunication by an application semantics image. Introduced formal method is established on sets, sets of states and predicates. The formal method determines what has to be said about the application semantics image and the external user dialogue. The method is addressed firstly to an enduser and an interface developer. It is a solid basis for development a specification language for interface customisation during system prototyping including all system safety properties.
