Abstract

A survey of 119 Venezuelan chemical companies shows that these can be divided into five entrepreneurial profiles with their own technological characteristics. The first profile includes active companies with complex organizational structures and formal research and development units. The second profile includes companies which are tied up with foreign technology while the third profile includes companies which almost have no innovative capacity. Autarchic companies include those which have no external technical linkages. The fifth profile includes chemical firms which cannot be characterized sufficiently.
