El pedregal de Arócutin se localiza en la cuenca del lago de Pátzcuaro, en el estado de Michoacán, en la provincia fisiográfica denominada Cinturón Volcánico Transmexicano, ocupa una superficie aproximada de 31 km2. La vegetación que se encuentra en esta zona es un bosque de Quercus en diferentes etapas de desarrollo, que alterna con matorrales formados con elementos del bosque tropical caducifolio. Se describe la estructura y composición florística de cada una de las asociaciones que lo conforman. Las colectas de ejemplares botánicos durante dos años dieron como resultado el registro de 407 especies de plantas vasculares, incluidas en 262 géneros y 96 familias; lo que representa 38.76% del total de especies de la flora de la cuenca del Lago de Pátzcuaro. Las familias mejor representadas son: Compositae con 60 especies, Leguminosae con 27, Labiatae con 19 y Gramineae con 18. Al comparar la lista florística del pedregal de Arócutin con la de otros pedregales del Cinturón Volcánico Transmexicano, utilizando el Índice de Similitud de Sórensen, se encontró que tanto a nivel genérico como específico la mayor relación del pedregal de Arócutin se da con el de Huaniqueo, Michoacán; siendo menor la similitud con los pedregales de San Ángel, Distrito Federal y Chichinautzin, Morelos. Adicionalmente se registran los usos tradicionales de algunas de las plantas. The pedregal of Arócutin, with a surface area of approximately 31 km2, is located in the Lake Pátzcuaro basin, in the northern portion of the Mexican state of Michoacán. This region belongs to the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt physiographic province. The vegetation found is an oak forest in different stages of succesion, intermixed with elements of tropical deciduous forest. The structure and floristic composition of each association is described. Intense botanical exploration for a period of two years resulted in the collection of 407 species of vascular plants, belonging to 262 genera and 96 families; these represent 38.76% of the total number of species in the Lake Patzcuaro basin. The most diverse families are: Compositae with 60 species, Leguminosae with 27, Labiatae with 19, and Gramineae with 18. Comparing the floristic list of the pedregal of Arócutin with those of three other outcrops of basaltic rocks along the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt, using the Sórensen similarity index, we found that the Arócutin and Huaniqueo pedregals are the most closely related, both at generic and specific level. This is followed by the pedregal of San Ángel in Mexico City and Anally the pedregal of Chichinautzin, Morelos. The aim of this study was to highlight the importance of measuring blood pressure (BP) and to identify and reduce the BPs of those people who require intervention to lower their BP according to current guidelines. A total of 7782 individuals aged ≥18 years were recruited during the 3 years of the May Measurement Month (MMM) campaign (2017: 1196, 2018: 2285, 2019: 4301). Recruitment was through opportunistic sampling at a variety of screening sites distributed throughout the country. Each participant underwent a pre-specified questionnaire with questions on risk factors concluding with three BP measurements at 1 min intervals and measurement of weight and height. Hypertension was defined as a systolic BP ≥140 mmHg or diastolic BP ≥90 mmHg or those receiving antihypertensive therapy. Of all 7782 participants, 3323 had hypertension (42.7%) of whom 61.8% were aware and 50.4% were not receiving antihypertensive medication. Of those treated (49.6%), 43.8% had controlled BP (<140/90 mmHg). Among all hypertensive patients (with and without medication), 21.7% had controlled BP. In relation to previous surveys carried out in the country, awareness of hypertension increased two-fold, with no change in the proportion of hypertensive patients on treatment and the proportion of hypertensive patients with controlled BP which remained low.

Restrictive employment protection legislation has been highlighted as a key reason for lower labor productivity in Europe compared to the United States. Evidence in the literature has shown robust effects of employment protection on effort, though the effects appear too small to generate marked cross-country differences in labor productivity. The authors revisit this issue using representative data of private-sector workers in Spain. A range of legislative changes aimed at reducing the incidence of temporary employment are used to estimate the effect of permanent employment on one aspect of effort, absenteeism. Results suggest that being employed on a permanent contract increases the probability of being absent from work due to sickness by approximately 5.3 percentage points and the time absent by approximately 0.30 of a day per week. These results suggest that cross-country differences in employment protection have the potential to have a substantial impact on labor productivity.
