•ANN technique has been implemented to estimate the heat transfer of roughened Solar Air Heater.•Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) algorithm with feed-forward back propagation model has been used.•Optimum results are being observed at 10 neurons in hidden layer (LM-10)•The MLP model was better than MLR model.
