In this paper, for a single-input multiple-output (SIMO) system aided by a passive reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS), the joint transmission accomplished by the single transmit antenna and the RIS with multiple controllable reflective elements is considered. Relying on a general capacity upper bound derived by using a maximum-trace argument, we respectively characterize the capacity slope of low-signal-to-noise-ratio channels and the exact capacity of rank-one channels, in which the optimal configuration of the RIS is proved to be beamforming-only with carefully-chosen phase shifts. To exploit the potential of modulating extra information on the RIS, by leveraging a strategy named partially beamforming and partially information-carrying based on QR decomposition and successive interference cancellation, we propose a novel transceiver architecture with only a single RF front end at the transmitter, by which the considered channel can be regarded as a concatenation of a vector Gaussian channel and several phase-modulated channels. Especially, we investigate a class of vector Gaussian channels with a hypersphere input support constraint, and not only generalize the existing result to arbitrary-dimensional real spaces but also present its high-order capacity asymptotics, by which both capacities of hypersphere-constrained channels and achievable rates of the proposed transceiver with two different signaling schemes can be well-approximated. Information-theoretic analyses show that the transceiver architecture designed for the SIMO channel has a boosted multiplexing gain, rather than one for the conventionally-used optimized beamforming scheme. Numerical results verify our derived asymptotic results and show notable superiority of the proposed transceiver as compared with the beamforming and the receive spatial modulation schemes.

This paper investigates the sum-capacity of two-user optical intensity multiple access channels with per-user peak- or/and average-intensity constraints. By leveraging tools from the decomposition of certain distributions, we derive several lower bounds on the sum-capacity. In the high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime, some bounds asymptotically match or approach the sum-capacity, thus closing or reducing the existing gaps to the high-SNR asymptotic sum-capacity. At moderate SNR, some bounds are also fairly close to the sum-capacity.

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are an emerging class of crystalline porous organic polymers with potential for innovative applications. Here we report the use of COFs as precursors for the fabrication of well-defined tubular nanomaterials. A proof-of-concept study is presented for the controllable fabrication of organic nanotubes through selective disassembly of two-dimensional heteropore COFs. Two dual-pore COFs are constructed based on orthogonal reactions. Each COF possesses two different kinds of pores, which are formed by linking all-hydrzaone-bonded nanopores with boroxines. Selectively hydrolyzing boroxine rings in the COFs while keeping hydrazone linkages untouched gives rise to organic nanotubes with diameters and shapes corresponding to the nanochannels of the COFs.

In this letter, we propose a multidimensional modem design based on two-level coding in the Gosset lattice $\mathbf {E}_{8}$ for high-rate low-latency peak-limited visible light communication. For low implementation complexity, a simple constellation mapper and a fast maximum-likelihood receiver are developed for our proposed constellation as well. Simulation results show our proposed scheme has about 2 dB performance gain and less latency as compared to the commonly-used pulse amplitute modulation at neglectable complexity cost.

Objective This study aimed to investigate the effects of low-dose radiation on the abdominal aorta of mice and vascular endothelial cells.Methods Wild-type and tumor-bearing mice were exposed to 15 sessions of low-dose irradiation, resulting in cumulative radiation doses of 187.5, 375, and 750 mGy. The effect on the cardiovascular system was assessed. Immunohistochemistry analyzed protein expressions of PAPP-A, CD62, P65, and COX-2 in the abdominal aorta. Microarray technology, Gene Ontology analysis, and pathway enrichment analysis evaluated gene expression changes in endothelial cells exposed to 375 mGy X-ray. Cell viability was assessed using the Cell Counting Kit 8 assay. Immunofluorescence staining measured γ-H2AX levels, and real-time polymerase chain reaction quantified mRNA levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6), ICAM-1, and Cx43.Results Hematoxylin and eosin staining revealed thickening of the inner membranes and irregular arrangement of smooth muscle cells in the media membrane at 375 and 750 mGy. Inflammation was observed in the inner membranes at 750 mGy, with a clear inflammatory response in the hearts of tumor-bearing mice. Immunohistochemistry indicated increased levels of PAPP-A, P65, and COX-2 post-irradiation. Microarray analysis showed 425 up-regulated and 235 down-regulated genes, associated with processes like endothelial cell-cell adhesion, IL-6, and NF-κB signaling. Cell Counting Kit 8 assay results indicated inhibited viability at 750 mGy in EA.hy926 cells. Immunofluorescence staining demonstrated a dose-dependent increase in γ-H2AX foci. Reverse transcription quantitative PCR results showed increased expression of IL6, ICAM-1, and Cx43 in EA.hy926 cells post 750 mGy X-ray exposure.Conclusion Repeated low-dose ionizing radiation exposures triggered the development of pro-atherosclerotic phenotypes in mice and damage to vascular endothelial cells.

In this paper, assuming only channel statistics information available at the receivers, we propose a transceiver design for single-input multiple-output (SIMO) free-space optical (FSO) systems over weak atmospheric turbulence, which is described by spatially correlated lognormal fading channels. To mitigate turbulence-induced spatially correlated lognormal fading, we investigate the symbol-by-symbol decision criterion and develop a low-complexity, energy-efficient transceiver by exploiting the joint spatial distribution of log irradiance. Different from existing symbol-by-symbol detection schemes, the proposed transceiver has a simple structure with asymptotical performance compared to maximum-likelihood (ML) detection and flexible modulation schemes. Computer simulations demonstrate the validity of proposed transceivers under various conditions.

Aiming at the current maintenance of the lead-acid batteries on CDMA bases, this paper analyses the main reasons for the battery failure and puts forward the system for the remote monitoring and control of the battery. It introduces the parameters about the battery current, voltage and temperature as well as the power relay working theory. Furthermore, the remote monitoring platform is developed to monitor the battery working states in real time. With the data analyzed, the automatic control will get started to charge/discharge the battery. The system can prolong the working life of the lead-acid battery effectively and improve the battery maintenance efficiency so as to reduce the maintenance cost.

The equipment resource planning is considered during the procedure of job schedules in manufacturing enterprises. Based on the analysis of interaction between production task and equipment status, a task driven equipment status monitoring system is presented. Through the development of an analyzer, the system can regulate the equipment status automatically according to the perform stage of production tasks and provide the adequate equipment information for job schedules. Finally, the application examples are introduced and the characteristics of the system are summarized as well.

Background. Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common degenerative disease of bone and joint characterized by the damage of articular cartilage and hypertonia, which often occurs in the middle-aged and elderly. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) therapy, including acupuncture (ACU), oral administration, and external use of traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs), can significantly improve the therapeutic effect on OA and reduce the occurrence of side effects. We provide a latest meta-analysis on the treatment of OA with TCM. Materials and Methods. In the electronic database, appropriate articles without language restrictions on keywords were selected until August 1, 2019. All trajectories are screened according to certain criteria. The quality of qualified research was also assessed. We have made a detailed record of the results of the measurement. Meta-analysis was carried out with Revman 5.3 software. Results. Forty-four articles involving 4014 patients (2012 cases in the experimental group and 2002 cases in the control group) with OA were selected. This article focuses on the study of the treatment of OA by using the general mode of TCM. The quality evaluation included in the study was evaluated independently according to the Cochrane intervention system evaluation manual. In this meta-analysis, 68.18% of the literature correctly described the conditions for the generation of random assignment sequences, only 6.82% of the literature correctly mentioned the hidden details of allocation, and all studies mentioned randomly assigned participants. Compared with Western medicine, the total effective rate (TER) of OA treatment in TCM was significantly increased and the recurrence rate (RR) was significantly decreased (P<0.00001). In addition, the experimental group was also superior to the control group in terms of the indicators of joint activity function, inflammatory factor content, and various indicators affecting bone metabolism. It can be showed by the network analysis diagram that Aconiti Radix, Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, and other TCMs can inhibit inflammatory stimulation and relieve the pain symptoms of patients with OA. ACU at Yinlingquan, Xiyan, and other acupoints can effectively improve the clinical symptoms of patients with OA. Conclusion. TCM therapy in treatment of patients with OA could effectively restore joint function, enhance the TER, and reduce RR. However, the results of this study should be handled with care due to the limitations existing. Some rigorous randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are needed to confirm these findings.
