The proposed method is computationally advantageous and robust to modes interference, then it could be employed for accurate instantaneous frequency estimation, which is a fundamental goal in applications dealing with non stationary signals such as radar, surveillance and audio signals. • A time–frequency evolution law for the spectrogram is proposed. • An iterative spectrogram reassignment suitable for non-separable modes is introduced. • The proposed method is computationally advantageous compared to standard reassignment. • Experimental results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method.
