Every evening from 28 June to 24 September 2017, twenty-five minutes of digitally mapped and projected images transformed the concrete undersurface of Vancouver's Cambie Street Bridge into a wild river filled with migrating salmon. Billed as a hybrid form that blends "cinematic storytelling and high-tech art installation" (Uninterupted.ca), the work spun a complex web of relations between humans, non-humans, and places, with a goal of inciting activist-style commitment to the issue of salmon depletion. The article argues that Uninterrupted manifests a civic imaginary in which urban infrastructure, a major catalyst of environmental degradation, can participate, through aesthetic intervention, in an act of recovery of biotic life. Since the beginning of the 1970s, science fiction (SF) has not only been a profitable genre, but also a very inspiring topic in academic discussions and analyses of various social and humanistic disciplines. One of the key issues is to what extent is SF the projection of the future (Podeschi, 2002), and to what extent is it a radicalized reflection of the current world (Lavigne, 2013; Geiger Zeman, Holy & Zeman, 2016). Podeschi (2002) considered SF movies an extremely politicized genre, "myths of the future" of sorts that may have a dual function: on the one hand they can legitimize the current crisis and on the other they can present social, cultural, political and economic alternatives with emancipatory potential. The focus of the analysis is the SF crime western series Westworld (Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, HBO, 2016), inspired by the eponymous movie from 1973 (Michael Chrichton). The series, being very complex in terms of genre, has provoked ambivalent criticism. It thematises a number of important philosophical, social and political issues that particularly highlight the issues of technology, relationships between Others and the members of the elite, subjectivity, individual freedom, autonomy and, finally, the meaning of life. Because of that, this popular television series calls for an interpretation from the standpoint of structural mythical elements, as well as communication content analysis, with special emphasis on the criticism of the propaganda visible from the discourse of the series on the one hand, and on the other hand regarding the role that this series has had in spreading the American (cultural) propaganda.
