Purpose: The existence of the advertising delay effect and its impact on supply chain operations have been demonstrated in the current study. Therefore, this study develops a timely inventory control strategy for the fresh produce supply chain to address the advertising delay effect in the fresh produce supply chain. Design/methodology/approach: This study proposes a game model based on the Nerlove-Arrow time delay differential equation and Pontryagin's maximum principle. Through comparative analyses of the optimal equilibrium strategies, the authors compare the optimal equilibrium strategies, product goodwill and optimal inventory trajectories for suppliers and retailers under secondary replenishment decisions and decentralized decisions. Findings: The authors find that (1) Only when the sales cycle meets certain conditions can the overall profit of the supply chain under the secondary replenishment decision be greater than that under the decentralized decision. As the price markup coefficient increases, the total profit of the supply chain first increases and then decreases. (2) With the increase in the delay time, the replenishment quantity during the initial period gradually decreases. After the delay time elapses, the inventory depletion rate under secondary replenishment decisions is faster than that under decentralized decision-making. (3) Although there is a continuously increasing maximum value of product goodwill with the increase in delay time, it becomes difficult to achieve this value for longer delays. Practical implications: The authors' findings provide a theoretical basis for supply chain members of fresh agricultural products to select replenishment and inventory control strategies when adopting different levels of delay in advertising marketing. Originality/value: Firstly, this paper explains the impact of advertising delay effect on fresh produce supply chain from a dynamic perspective, and secondly, it provides guidance on advertising formulation and inventory replenishment for fresh produce retailers under the influence of advertising delay effect. Purpose: In the presence of government procurement, one important driving force behind a poor farmer entering into sales format agreements is to improve profits. In this study, the authors examine two widely used sales formats, namely resale format and agent format, to investigate how parameters influence the optimal sales format selection and decision equilibriums of supply chain members under the scenarios with or without the buyer's poverty alleviation efforts. Design/methodology/approach: This paper adopts the Stackelberg game-theoretical approach to examine the interactions between the farmer from poor/rural areas and the buyer. Findings: The authors find that under certain conditions, the optimal sales format of the poor farmer and buyer can be consistent, which eliminates conflicts in the sales format selection. In addition, with the buyer's poverty alleviation effort, the poor farmer and buyer can achieve the Pareto improvement, which is a win–win outcome for them. The authors also find that the market price in government procurement is independent of competition, which is consistent with practical observations. Originality/value: It is the first study to investigate the optimal sales format selection given government procurement as a poverty alleviation effort which is in competition with a firm's regular channel. Purpose: Carbon emission is a significant issue for the current business market and global warming. Nowadays, most countries have focused to reduce the environmental impact of business with durable financial benefits. The purpose of this study is to optimize the entire cost functions with carbon emission and to find the sustainable optimal ordering quantity for retailers. Design/methodology/approach: This paper illustrates a sustainable inventory model having a set of two non-instantaneous substitutable deteriorating items under joint replenishment with carbon emission. In this model demand and deterioration rate are considered as deterministic, constant and triangular fuzzy numbers. The objective is to find the optimal ordering quantity for retailers and to minimize the total cost function per unit time with carbon emission. The model is then solved with the help of Maple software. Findings: This paper presents a solution method and also develop an algorithm to determine the order quantities which optimize the total cost function. A numerical experiment illustrates the improvement in optimal total cost of the inventory model with substitution over without substitution. The graphical results show the convexity of the cost function. Finally, sensitivity analysis is given to get the impact of parameters and validity of the model. Originality/value: This study considers a set of two non-instantaneous substitutable deteriorating items under joint replenishment with carbon emission. From the literature review, in the authors' knowledge no researcher has undergone this kind of study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Canadian sportswear company Gildan Activewear saw an 8.1 percent increase in activewear sales in Q4, driven by higher volumes at point-of-sale and increased customer replenishment. The company also experienced strong sales in the fleece and ring-spun T-shirt segments. Overall, Gildan's operating income increased by 92 percent to $178.1 million, and total revenues rose by 8.7 percent to $782.7 million. However, sales outside of North America fell by 24 percent due to challenging macroeconomic conditions. Gildan's adjusted gross margin improved by 110 basis points to 30.2 percent, primarily due to lower raw material costs. For the full year, activewear sales declined by 3.4 percent, and adjusted net income decreased by 21 percent. Gildan's outlook for FY24 predicts a slightly higher adjusted operating margin and flat to low single-digit revenue growth. The company is also in the process of ramping up its new facility in Bangladesh. [Extracted from the article]

Abstract
Vendor-managed inventory (VMI) is a common inventory management policy which allows the vendor to manage the buyer's inventory based on the information shared in the course of supply chain management. One challenge in VMI is that both the vendor and buyer are manufacturers who try to achieve an inventory as small as possible or even a zero inventory; it is therefore difficult to manage inventory coordination between them. This paper considers a decentralized VMI problem in a three-echelon supply chain network in which multiple distributors (third-party logistics companies) are selected to balance the inventory between a vendor (manufacturer) and multiple buyers (manufacturers). To handle this issue, this paper first proposes a tri-level decision model to describe the decentralized VMI problem, which allows us to examine how decision members coordinate with each other in respect of decentralized VMI decision-making in a predetermined sequence. We then turn our attention to the geometry of the solution space and present a vertex enumeration algorithm to solve the resulting tri-level decision model. Lastly, a computational study is developed to illustrate how the proposed tri-level decision model and solution approach can handle the decentralized VMI problem. The results indicate that the proposed tri-level decision-making techniques provide a practical way to design a novel manufacturer-manufacturer (vendor-buyer) VMI system where third-party logistics are involved. What if a successful company starts to receive a torrent of low-valued (one or two stars) recommendations in its mobile apps from multiple users within a short (say one month) period of time? Is it legitimate evidence that the apps have lost in quality, or an intentional plan (via lockstep behavior) to steal market share through defamation? In the case of a systematic attack to one’s reputation, it might not be possible to manually discern between legitimate and fraudulent interaction within the huge universe of possibilities of user-product recommendation. Previous works have focused on this issue, but none of them took into account the context, modeling, and scale that we consider in this paper. Here, we propose the novel method Online-Recommendation Fraud ExcLuder ( ORFEL ) to detect defamation and/or illegitimate promotion of online products by using vertex-centric asynchronous parallel processing of bipartite (users-products) graphs. With an innovative algorithm, our results demonstrate both efficacy and efficiency – over 95% of potential attacks were detected, and ORFEL was at least two orders of magnitude faster than the state-of-the-art. Over a novel methodology, our main contributions are: (1) a new algorithmic solution; (2) one scalable approach; and (3) a novel context and modeling of the problem, which now addresses both defamation and illegitimate promotion. Our work deals with relevant issues of the Web 2.0, potentially augmenting the credibility of online recommendation to prevent losses to both customers and vendors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

When a supplier brings a price increase to a merchant, especially in this economic environment, the buyer may not have the right tools, capacity, or time to determine whether a price increase is warranted. This is an important decision that sometimes requires alignment with the supplier to find a point at which the agreed price properly incorporates the supplier's materials, labor, and freight costs. The return of inflation makes price negotiation a more demanding - and strategically critical - capability. [Extracted from the article]
