ABSTRACTA high-resolution melt (HRM) assay using a Rotor-Gene 6000 instrument was developed to characterize the codon for glycine 54 in the cyp51Agenes from 13 reference isolates and 12 clinical isolates of Aspergillus fumigatus. Mutations in this codon confer reduced susceptibility to itraconazole and posaconazole. The assay is simple to perform, and a result of “wild type” or “mutant” is available after approximately 1 h following DNA extraction using commercially available reagents and conventional primers.

We introduce a promising low cost analog grey scale structure for SSFLC panels. The display under study consists of two glass substrates, one of which is covered as usual with ITO electrodes. The other substrate is covered with a high resistivity transparent film and with a pattern of thin, parallel metal conductors. Spacers can be formed by the photoresist stripes left on metal conductors with thickness controlled in spin coating process.The grey scale is produced due to variation of the FLC switching area beside the metal tracks according to the applied data voltage. The high resistivity coating leads to non-uniformity of the electric field which is responsible for domain creation and switching process growing gradually from the metal tracks.We also discuss addressing hysteresis and operation range problems and present our choice for FLC mixture, aligning layers and addressing waveforms. Finally we give addressing hysteresis measurements and preliminary results from our devices.

In order to evaluate the switching properties of FLC mixtures in their relation to addressing waveforms, alignment layers and general cell construction we have built an experimental setup which allows for dynamic measurements of the optical response of a test cell under real addressing conditions. In synchronisation with a selection voltage different data pulses can be sequentially applied and the corresponding optical response of a test cell can be recorded under computer control. Thank to this equipment we are able to record hysteresis curves of the response. On this basis we introduce some useful parameters (switching amplitude, image sticking) which can be measured and compared for different cells.The setup can provide several selection and data waveforms so that influence of their choice can also be studied.

Guest-host type mixtures of a liquid crystal and dichroic dyes are theoretically analyzed by means of the Flory-Ronca lattice theory.The results are compared with experimental data. The influence of the temperature, molecular soft- and steric interactions, dyes (guest) ratio and presence of different dopants on the optical properties of the mixture is also analyzed.

The metal industry cannot afford the financial mismanagement in the era of rising energy prices and thus, the high efficiency devices should be used. In the metallurgical thermal processes the combustion air temperature increasing is one of the methods for obtaining the heat transfer intensification and the furnaces efficiency rising. Therefore the new and effective heating technologies in thermal processes are demanded all the time. The regenerative systems are most effective in terms of the heated air level. The individual regenerators for burners are the newest solutions where the temperature of 1100 degC is reachable for the exhaust temperature of 1200 degC. Based on research results, performed for the assumed exhaust temperature of 1100 degC, the paper presents possibilities of changeable different materials using as a regenerator filling in the aspect of its operation efficiency. Such materials as high-temperature steel, Al2O3 and SiC have been considered. The paper presents the selected data research, dealing with the air combustion temperature obtained for the same type of regenerator filling of considered materials. The fuel consumption reduction and reduction of CO2 emission, for metal regenerator filling, have been presented finally as an economic and environmental aspect accordingly to the air preheated.
