The review covers methods of synthesis, structure and properties of cross-conjugated dienones, viz., bis(arylmethylidene) derivatives of cyclic ketones and their heteroanalogues. The regio- and stereochemistry of the reactions of dienones depending on the ring size and the nature of substituents is analysed.

New pyrazoline derivatives were synthesized by condensation of dienones based on cyclohexanone and N-substituted piperidin-4-ones with phenylhydrazine and 2-pyridylhydrazine. The reaction with phenylhydrazine produces transisomers.

Abstract N,N’-Polymethylenebis(thiosalicylidene)iminate and macrocyclic dithiadiazadibenzocycloalkadiene complexes of nickel(II) were synthesized and their electrochemical and spectroscopic properties were studied. Dithiadiazadibenzocycloalkadiene complexes containing two DMSO molecules coordinated to Ni2+ and two outer-sphere ClO4− anions were synthesized by the reaction of the corresponding macrocyclic ligands with Ni(ClO4)2·6H2O. The structure of 3,6-dithia-10,14-diazadibenzo[a,g]cyclopentadeca-9,14-dienylnickel(II)[bis(dimethyl sulfoxide) bis-perchlorate] was established by X-ray diffraction. The UV-Vis spectroscopic data are consistent with octahedral structures of diiminobis(sulfide) complexes, a square-planar structure of the thiosalen complex, and distorted tetrahedral structures of other diiminodithiolate complexes. The reaction of S-tert-butylthiosalicylaldehyde with hydrazine hydrate afforded di(ortho-tert-butylthiobenzal)azine. The reaction of the latter with anhydrous NiCl2 produced a colored complex with the simplest molecular formula Ni(C16H12N2S2) in 15% yield. Semiempirical PM3(tm) calculations and the results of UV-Vis, ESR, and 1H NMR spectroscopy demonstrate that this complex has most probably a dimeric structure, in which two Ni centers adopt a nearly square-planar configuration. The complexes are clearly divided into two types according to their electrochemical behavior in DMF solutions. The type 1 is characterized by reversibility of the first reduction steps. The type 2 is characterized by irreversible two-electron reduction as the first step accompanied by deposition of Ni metal on the electrode surface. Rapid electrochemically initiated alkylation occurs in the presence of various alkylating agents (BunI, BunBr, (DmgH)2CoCH3) in a solution of complex 1 in DMF.

A new synthetic method was developed for \,\′-dihaloalkyl sulfides (halogen chlorine or bromine) by reaction of thiobisamines with olefins and alkynes in the presence of the appropriate phosphorus halides. The reaction proceeds along electrophilic mechanism affordingtrans-additionproducts. The highest yields of the target products were obtained at POBr3or POC13application.

We have investigated the molecular and crystal structure of 3, 7-di(2-propenyl)-1, 5-diphenyl-3, 7-diazabicyclo[3.3.1]nonan-9-one complexed with copper(II) chloride. We have shown for the first time that the reason for the distortion of the coordination polyhedron of the metal is the interaction of the substituents at the nitrogen atoms with the halogen atoms.

A new method for the synthesis of di(2-haloalkyl) disulfides and ß,ß'-dibromothiacyclanes was proposed based on reactions of dithiobisamines with olefins in the presence of PBr3, PBr5, or POBr3. Reactions with alkenes lead to di(2-bromoalkyl) disulfides. Analogous products and heterocyclic dibromosulfides,i.e., the products of addition of one dithiobisamine molecule to both double bonds of a diene, are obtained in reactions with alkadienes.

A method has been developed for the synthesis of thiosulfonates by the electrophilic addition of S-tosylsulfenamides to olefins or their electrophilic substitution in aromatic systems. SO3, Py·SO3, and BF3·Et2O were used as activators. The addition of S-tosylsulfenamides to olefins proceeds through electrophilic trans addition.

The electrochemical behavior of some 3,7-diazabicyclo[3.3.1]nonanes and their complexes with copper(II) chloride was investigated. The composition and stability of complexes are discussed.

Two systems for arene sulfenylation were investigated: arenesulfenamides in the presence of SO3 and sulfenylacetate complexes with AlBr3. A preference for the second reagent was demonstrated for sulfenylation of substrates bearing donor substituitents.

The solid-phase synthesis of 1,2-benzophenazine and various N-methylbenzimidazoles using o-diaminoarenes is very promising and permits the synthesis of 1-methyl-4,5-[b]naphtho-1H-imidazole, which could not be obtained by the condensation of o-diaminoarenes with paraformaldehyde using the standard liquid-phase method.

Abstract 1,5-Dicarbonyl derivatives of piperidine and tropane were studied in the heterocyclization with hydroxylamine hydrochloride. All the 5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-1,6-naphthyridines obtained exhibit a pronounced analgesic effect.

Mechanoactivation of iodochlorination of olefins with a new reagent, potassium dichloroiodate(I), was studied.

SO3-Mediated reaction ofN,N-diethylphenyiselenenylamide with 1,2-alkadienyl phosphonates under conditions of generation of weak electrophilic species results in the formation of cyclization products involving phosphoryl oxygen.

A representative of a previously unknown class of S-sulfonylsulfene halides — S-tosylsulfene chloride (1) — was prepared for the first time. It was shown that the reaction of sulfene chloride1 with cyclohexene yieldstrans-2-chlorocyclohexyl-p-toluene thiosulfonate, and the reaction with 1-hexene yields a mixture of 2-chlorohexyl-p-toluene thiosulfonate and 1-chloro-2-hexyl-p-toluene thiosulfonate.

The iodohalogenation of arylcyclopropanes (I) leads to a mixture of dihalogenated products (II) and (III).

(NO)2[SnCl6] appears to be a mild nitrosating agent that can be successfully used for the synthesis of isoxazolines (II) from arylcyclopropanes (I) containing electron‐donor substituents in the aromatic ring.

The regio‐ and stereoselectivities of reactions of alkenes, dienes, and alkynes with ethyl benzenesulfenate (II) and trimethylsilyl isothiocyanate (III) are studied.

The synthesis of ligands (IV) and (VI), the preparation of their Cu(II), Co(II) and Ni(II) complexes, as well as the electrochemical behavior of these ligands and complexes are presented.
