The article discusses the discovery of a 4,800 year old prosthetic eye. In an area of Iran known as Burnt City, archaeologists unearthed an artificial eye that apparently belonged to a young Persian woman. The eye is composed of tar and animal fat. The eyeball's capillaries were drawn on using golden wires less than 1/2 mm thick. Abscesses on the woman's eyelid seem to be the result of contact with the prosthetic eye.
