High Throughput Satellite (HTS) Technology has proven to be an essential aspect of high data rate communications for Government and First Responder beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) connectivity in remote areas of the world where cellular and terrestrial communication paths are not available or dependable. In today's world, a surge of new satellite capabilities is being brought to the market at a rapid pace. However, most of these new capabilities are focused on optimizing total aggregate satellite throughput without regard to user experience. The priority of the satellite operators of today drives down the cost per bit through frequency reuse and contention by sacrificing the user's need for performance, resiliency, mobility, efficiency, and security. Attitude and size estimation of spacecraft components is one of the main contents of space target awareness. In this paper, a radar-camera joint observation scheme applicable to multiple spaceborne platforms is developed to measure the orientation and length of the spacecraft solar panels, which benefits from the observation diversity jointly provided by radars and cameras. Firstly, an automatic keypoint detection network is trained to extract the endpoints of the solar panels in the radar and optical images with high accuracy. Then, the projected lengths of the solar panels calculated from the extracted endpoints along with the observation equations of the radars and cameras are jointly used to obtain the orientation and actual length of the solar panels by an optimization approach. Simulated experiments are conducted to demonstrate the performance of the proposed measuring methods, which achieves length estimation errors within 0.2 m and orientation estimation errors within 1°. The phased array antenna plays an important role in determining the performance achievable in a space based radar system. However, the array position errors caused by the antenna distortions in the complex cosmic vacuum environment will distort the antenna pattern, which significantly degrades the performance of the radar systems. Most of the conventional estimation methods are proposed based on the random position errors without the consideration of the distortion character for spaceborne arrays, resulting in a large estimation error. In this paper, to address this issue, an efficient array error estimation method is proposed to compensate the antenna distortion errors. In the proposed method, the initial sensor positions can be obtained based on the measured results from the units distributed over the array surface. Then the distortion model parameters can be estimated by solving an optimization problem. Based on this, the sensor positions can be corrected with high accuracy at the l th iteration. In this way, the proposed method can improve the accuracy and the robustness of the estimation simultaneously. For spaceborne instrumentation, the prohibitive cost of a flight traditionally favors programmable solutions such as field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). As scientific goals become more ambitious, the FPGA-based solutions are showing limitations, especially with restricted launch vehicle capacity and available solar power. In this paper, modern integrated circuit technology is adopted to realize two fully integrated spectrometer SoCs to support spaceborne telescopic sensing. The system specifications are derived from the scientific principles of radio-frequency spectroscopy while each component strives for a simple and reliable implementation. Realized in 65-nm CMOS technology, Design A operates at 2.6 GHz with a three-bit ADC, a 2048-point FFT with 8192-point polyphase filter bank, and a billion-count accumulator. Design B more than doubles the bandwidth, reaches 6 GS/s by interleaving the ADC. The FFT size is also quadrupled to 8192. Both designs include integrated phase locked loops and tunable clock distribution networks. Design A consumes a peak power of 650 mW and Design B consumes 1.5 W. They represent the highest level of integration among similar endeavors and achieve orders of magnitude of improvement over traditional solutions in terms of size, weight, and power consumption. Segmentation is the key step in auto-interpretation of high-resolution spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. A novel method is proposed based on integrating the geometric active contour (GAC) and the support vector machine (SVM) models. First, the images are segmented by using SVM and textural statistics. A likelihood measurement for every pixel is derived by using the initial segmentation. The Chan-Vese model then is modified by adding two items: the likelihood and the distance between the initial segmentation and the evolving contour. The azimuth resolution improvement problem is solved via a coherent combination of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images with the quasi-non-overlapped Doppler bandwidth. Prior to the spectra combination, SAR images should be co-registered, while phase biases induced by topography, atmospheric propagation delays and baseline measurement errors should be calibrated. However, the coregistration accuracy suffers from large Doppler decorrelation caused by the quasi-non-overlapped Doppler bandwidth. Furthermore, the method used to estimate phase biases from interferogram of azimuth pre-filtered SAR image pairs will fail when there is no overlapped spectrum. The fringe simulation and maximum sharpness optimization are adopted to deal with the problems. Accordingly, a novel algorithm to coherently synthesize SAR images is presented. To resolve problems of complicated clutter, fast-varying scenes, and low signal-clutter-ratio (SCR) in application of target detection on sea for space-based radar ( SBR), a target detection approach based on adaptive waveform design is proposed. First, complicated sea clutter is modeled as compound Gaussian process, and a target is modeled as some scatterers with deterministic unknown reflectivity. Second, every dwell duration of radar is divided into several sub- dwells. Regular linear frequency modulated pulses are transmitted at sub-dwell 1, and the received signal at this sub-dwell is used to estimate clutter covariance matrices and pre-detect targets. Estimated matrices are updated at every following sub- dwell by using the multiple particle filtering technique to cope with fast-varying clutter scenes of SBR. Furthermore, waveform of every following sub-dwell is designed adaptively according to the mean square optimization technique. Finally, principal component analysis and generalized likelihood ratio test is used to improve SCR and implement property of constant false alarm rate respectively. Simulation results show that, considering configuration of SCR and condition of complicated clutter, SCR for requisite for reliable detection by use of this target detection approach reduced by about 9dB . An H-mode ionization system was designed for the requirements of low power consumption and low electromagnetic interference of the passive spaceborne hydrogen maser, which adopting a planar rolled coil antenna to supply power. And a mathematic model of ionization was built. Firstly, the distribution model of electromagnetic field in the ionization bubble and the ionization mechanism of the certain method were deduced from the Maxwell equations. And then, the ionization puncture condition criterion and its mathematic model were acquired. Finally, parameters of ionization device were optimized by the criterion equation. Both simulation and measurement show that the ionization model is effective, and the optimized design parameters have improved the performance of power consumption and electromagnetic interference, and the total DC power can be less than 2 W. The step-by-step steering of antenna beam for spaceborne TOPSAR (Terrain Observation by Progressive Scan SAR) mode has significant impacts on image quality. The modulation law of spaceborne TOPSAR mode beam steering for azimuth signal is analyzed, and a mathematical model of azimuth beam step-by-step steering is implemented. Besides, based on the theory of paired echoes, the formulas of the amplitude and position of azimuth paired echoes are derived. The relationship between beam stepped steering and both amplitude and position of paired echoes is quantitatively described.
