The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) has released its Cancer Progress Report 2024, highlighting both the significant progress made in cancer care, prevention, and early detection, as well as the gaps that still exist. The report emphasizes the need for continued funding, as federal funding for cancer research has decreased for the first time since 2016. Despite advances, cancer remains a significant public health challenge, with increasing incidence rates for certain cancers and low uptake of the HPV vaccine. Financial toxicity is also a concern, with many patients experiencing financial hardship following a cancer diagnosis. The AACR calls on Congress to commit to funding cancer research at significant and consistent levels to maintain progress against cancer. [Extracted from the article]
