A recent study presented at the National Psoriasis Foundation's research symposium discussed the challenges of treating palmoplantar pustulosis, a rare form of psoriasis that affects the hands and feet. While the approval of the drug spesolimab has improved treatment options for generalized pustular psoriasis, it does not appear to be effective for palmoplantar pustulosis. Other treatments, such as IL-17 and IL-23 blockade and TNF inhibition, have shown some efficacy but are less effective than for plaque psoriasis. The nomenclature and classification of palmoplantar psoriatic disease also complicate research and management. Further research is needed to understand the unique immunologic signaling and differing immunophenotypes of palmoplantar disease. [Extracted from the article]
