Researchers at Harvard University have developed an ingestible vibrating capsule called the Vibrating Ingestible BioElectronic Stimulator (VIBES) that could potentially be used as a treatment for obesity. The capsule works by stimulating gastric stretch receptors, which signal the brain through the vagal nerve and create a feeling of fullness. In animal studies, the VIBES capsule reduced food and energy intake and lowered weight gain. While the concept of creating a sense of satiety is not new, there are still hurdles to overcome before the capsule can be widely used in clinical settings. [Extracted from the article]
