This special issue celebrates the impact of Baumeister and Leary's paper on the need to belong on its 25th birthday. This seminal work identified the importance of social connections for humans, suggested that the human need to belong is analogous to our needs for food and water, and identified the invisible hand that guides much of the research in social psychology. The first three articles in this special issue provide examples of how the need to belong has expanded from Baumeister and Leary's original conception of a need for close relationships to a broader need for all kinds of social connections. Celebrating Construction Management and Economics's (CME) 40th anniversary, the goal of this paper is to investigate the knowledge structure and evolution of research trends in CME since its inception. The associated objectives include: (1) analyzing CME's scholarly characteristics; (2) studying CME's publication output over time; (3) examining interconnectivities between CME's research trends; and (4) exploring the potential citation impact of recently published CME's papers. In doing so, this paper implemented a multistep methodology that consists of descriptive assessment, social network analysis (SNA), and predictive machine learning (ML). Results of descriptive assessment showed that CME has witnessed over the years a noticeable growth in the number of publications, citation trends, and collaborative research as depicted increased co-authorship, and that highest percentage of publications were related to "Strategy, Decision Making, Risk, and Finance", "Project planning and Design" and "Contemporary Issues". Output of SNA highlights that research areas with the highest interconnectivity included "Strategy, Decision Making, Risk and Finance" and "Project Planning and Design", and "Labor and Personnel Issues". Furthermore, predictive ML revealed that CME papers have a high probability of becoming high impact publications. In addition to that, the predictive ML results re-emphasized the outcomes of the performed descriptive assessment by reflecting the importance of "Contemporary Issues", "Organizational Issues", "Strategy, Decision Making, Risk, and Finance", and "Labor and Personnel Issues" as emerging research topics with increased potential impact in the future. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between South Korea (hereafter referred to as Korea) and India in 1973, their bilateral relationship has made significant progress. This year marks the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic partnership, which calls for a scholarly examination of the developments in Korea-India relations over the last five decades, and their future prospects. This special issue's introductory paper provides a concise overview of the evolution of Korea–India relationships and introduces the other papers in the issue, emphasizing their significance in understanding the trajectory of the relationships. The primary goal of this introductory paper is to make two contributions: First, it aims to enrich the existing literature on India–Korea relations; and second, it provides key insights for policymakers to strengthen India–Korea ties in a new global order. The author reflects on the 50th anniversary of the periodical "Nationalities Papers" in 2022. The anniversary will be celebrated by the Association for the Study of Nationalities at the Annual World Convention. On the 20th anniversary of Psychoanalytic Perspectives, Rachel Altstein and Karen Perlman, as Co-Editors-in-Chief, look back to the very first published issues of their journal to find the early seeds of its philosophy and mission that remain at the heart of the current iteration of the publication. They introduce new features that retain the ideology of the old, specifically that of giving voice to analytic writers from the sidelines of psychoanalytic publishing who are not on the traditional roster of frequently published writers. Another new feature, "Second Look," pairs a current writer with a classic paper for a contemporary rereading, imagining a dialogue across time. The three unique sections of Perspectives that privilege creative writing, memoir, and interview are described, lauded, and committed to anew. Reflecting on what it means to edit, and what it means to edit psychoanalytic papers specifically, Altstein and Perlman also think about the priority of preserving voice and the notion of refraction in the process of an editorial interaction with texts. The 100th anniversary of Social Forces provides a rich opportunity to reflect on the history of the journal and changes to sociology as a whole. Using a series of formal text-analytic methods, we describe the shifting intellectual landscape of Social Forces publications. We uncover a wide diversity of topics that shift over time reflecting the breadth of interests engaging sociologists as Social Forces grew into one of the discipline's premier journals. In addition to shifts in content, we examine changes in sociological work during this century. We find that articles have generally become more interdisciplinary, while being produced by larger, more gender inclusive and globalized teams. We examine both the most cited papers in Social Forces as well as factors associated with greater recognition. The overall story implied by these explorations suggests a vibrant journal that has shaped the way that sociology has worked over the last 100 years. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This Special Issue collects 17 selected contributions from participants to the 10th edition of the RCEM (River, Coastal and Estuarine Morphodynamics) Symposium, organized in Padova‐Trento (Italy) in September 2017. The series of biennial RCEM symposia has the key goal of enhancing interaction and promoting integration among the scientific communities focused on the morphological dynamics of river, coastal and estuarine environments, through various combinations of theoretical, observational, experimental and modelling approaches. The 17 contributions to this Special Issue contain four state‐of‐science reviews and overall offer a broad view of the cross‐cutting perspective adopted when addressing morphodynamics. Explorations in Renaissance Culture, a journal that focuses on early modern topics, will be celebrating its fiftieth anniversary next year. The journal, founded by the South Central Renaissance Conference, has expanded its scope and reach over the years, particularly after partnering with Brill. The editor, Andrew Fleck, is inviting long-time readers and recent editors to contribute their reflections on the journal's work. Explorations is no longer tied to the society's annual meeting and welcomes original scholarly contributions from senior and junior scholars. The journal occasionally publishes clusters of related essays or dedicates entire issues to special topics. Publishing in Ambio and elsewhere, geoscientists distributed across several disciplines have both created and substantiated the Anthropocene concept since the turn of the millennium. Epochal and topically encompassing, the concept has served to focus academic and political attention on the extraordinary scale, scope and magnitude of the human impact on the Earth. The concept serves as a metaphorical 'roof' that allows a family of geoscientific terms to reside together harmoniously in the same space. The four Ambio papers evaluated here helped to both build the roof and the family. However, for all their merits, the papers form part of a wider scientific discourse that threatens to colonise the imagination of Earth present and future. A scientific framing of the Anthropocene needs to be deframed and then reframed in terms of what science misses (e.g. diverse social values, needs and wants, which imply alternate courses of possible future action). The papers assessed in this commentary have, albeit unintentionally, helped inspire this de- and reframing in wider social science, the humanities and the arts. Looking ahead, dissonant forms of knowledge and argument about Earth present and future will be key to forging a 'good Anthropocene'. In future, Ambio can help to foster this productive dissonance by loosening its own intellectual parameters while maintaining its high standards of scholarship. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Urbanization brings benefits and burdens to both humans and nature. Cities are key systems for integrated social-ecological research and the interdisciplinary journal of Ambio has published ground-breaking contributions in this field. This reflection piece identifies and discusses integration of the human and natural spheres in urban social-ecological research using the following foundational papers as important milestones: Folke et al. (1997), Ernstson et al. (2010) and Andersson et al. (2014). These papers each take unique approaches that aim to uncover core properties—processes, structures, and actors—of urban systems and set them into mutual relationship. This article is a tribute to Lewis Wolpert and his ideas on the occasion of the recent 50th anniversary of the publication of his article 'Positional Information and the Spatial Pattern of Differentiation'. This tribute relates to another one of his ideas: his early 'Progress Zone' timing model for limb development. Recent evidence is reviewed showing a mechanism sharing features with this model patterning the main body axis in early vertebrate development. This review, for the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (JAC), gives an overview of the manuscripts related to veterinary bacteriology published in the journal in the past 40 years with a focus on 'One Health' aspects. From 1975 to 2000 the number of manuscripts related to veterinary medicine was limited, but thereafter, the number steadily increased. Most manuscripts published were related to food-producing animals, but companion animals and minor species were also covered. Subjects included antimicrobial usage in animals and the consequences for human medicine, new resistance genes and mechanisms, the prevalence and epidemiology of antimicrobial resistance, and the emergence of resistant bacteria in animals with zoonotic potential such as livestock-associated MRSA (LA-MRSA), methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius (MRSP) and ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae. These manuscripts have added to our knowledge on the risks of transmission of resistant bacteria from animals to humans and the importance of the prudent use of antimicrobial agents in veterinary medicine. Lorenz rediscovered the butterfly effect, which is defined as the sensitive dependence on initial conditions (SDIC), in 1963. In 1972, he used the term "butterfly" as a metaphor to illustrate how a small perturbation can lead to a tornado with a complex structure. The metaphorical butterfly effect, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022, is not precisely the same as the original butterfly effect with SDIC. To commemorate the 50th anniversary, a Special Issue was launched and invited the submission of research and review articles that can help to enhance our understanding of both the original and metaphorical butterfly effects. The Special Issue also sought recent developments in idealized Lorenz models and real-world models that address multistability, multiscale predictability, and sensitivity. The call for papers was opened 15 months prior to the completion of the Special Issue and features nine selected papers. DRZEWIECKA, Ewelina. Cyrillo-Methodian Anniversaries in the Context of Socialism (Ideological Functions, National Uses, and Research Perspectives). The aim of the paper is to address the phenomenon of anniversary in regard to the cultural conditions that are typical of the period of socialism in South-East Europe. The focus is on a jubilee discourse that was generated for the purposes of state commemorations of SS. Cyril and Methodius, i.e. the inventors of the first Slavic alphabet and literacy. The starting point is the case of People's Republic of Bulgaria (1946 - 1990), which is perceived as both an example of rewriting the Cyrillo-Methodian tradition under the local conditions of Communist ideology, and a meaningful manifestation of the "culture of jubilee". The paper discusses the continuity of cultural matrix within the Bulgarian modernity despite the distinct semantic shifts in the Cyrillo-Methodian narrative and suggests a great potential of investigating the phenomena with regard to the past that is shared/contested in terms of different national ideologies. It is suggested that a "contrastive grammar" of competing jubilee discourses and practices would be a promising way of interpreting the Bulgarian-Macedonian confrontations and struggles for primacy that emerged during socialism. This paper addresses the robust downgrading (single-machine) makespan scheduling problem, a scheduling challenge where processing times are augmented at a minimum cost to achieve a specified downgrading level in the makespan. The associated costs are modeled as intervals, and we employ the minmax regret criterion to handle uncertainty. The deterministic case is initially examined with a lineartime algorithm. Subsequently, the robust version of the problem is transformed into a single-variable objective, characterized by a piecewise linear function. Then, we develop a combinatorial algorithm with polynomial time complexity to solve the corresponding problem. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
