The article discusses the economic policies of Great Britain following the India Mutiny of 1857, which cost the British an estimated 42 million pounds. Scottish political economist the Right Honourable James Wilson was sent to Kolkata (present day Calcutta), India to enact financial reforms which included introducing paper currency and enacting an income tax system in British colonial India. Wilson died in India in 1860 and biographical information about him is presented.
