This article features Trevor and Ryan Oakes, New York City-based artists who are identical twins. One of their breakthroughs is figuring out a way of rendering the world before them onto a curved sheet of paper which seems like a camera obscura or a camera lucida projection. The twin's father is a social worker, while their academic mother specializes in children's literature. The Oakes twins are suffering from dyslexia but they excel in everything else such as mathematics. One of the principle motifs of their work is seeing with two eyes. They were both accepted at Cooper Union, an art school known to be difficult to get into for any applicant. Their material investigations led to a series of conceptual breakthroughs.
