Information about a paper on various mental disorders discussed at the 37th Annual Meeting of the Society for Neuroscience in San Diego, California is presented. It reveals that changes in the levels of specific immune molecules, which are members of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I family, are sufficient to cause cellular and behavioral symptoms of autism and schizophrenia. MHC class I can be helpful to the health but can also endanger neurons during viral infection.
