Abstract
The article discusses the role of park music in the culture of the British colony of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia in the late 19th and early 20th century. According to the author, both parks and public music performances were believed to have a beneficial and civilizing influence on residents. Details on conductor Andrew Seal, his leadership of the Brisbane Band, and their performances in the Brisbane Botanic Gardens are presented.
