High torque and low speed hydrostatic transmissions have many advantages and have been used to drive roller mills in sugar factories for more than 30 years. Their new developments allow these advantages to be also used in cooling crystallisers with extremely low variable speeds and high torques. This paper presents the benefits of the application of hydrostatic transmissions to cooling crystallisers. The transmissions offer maximum torque in the speeds from zero to maximum, the possibility of maintaining the maximum torque with zero speed indefinitely, and the continuous measurement and control of the torque. Options for operating the agitators of crystallisers tested and used today are also analysed and compared. The new hydrostatic transmission facilities in horizontal crystallisers in Central Motzorongo Sugar Mill in Mexico and vertical crystallisers in Réunion are described and the preliminary results of the work of the crystallisers equipped with these transmissions are analysed. Modern designs of drives with hydrostatic transmissions, considering their dimensions, weight, possibility of working with high torque and extremely low speed, are an excellent option for driving the agitators of cooling crystallisers. This paper introduces a deterministic fractional-order epidemic model (FOEM) for studying the transmission dynamics of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). The model highlights the substantial role of unaware and undetected HIV-infected individuals in spreading the disease. Control strategies, such as wielding condoms, level of preventive measures to avoid infection, and self-strictness of susceptibles in sexual contact, have been incorporated into the study. The basic reproduction number ℛ 0 α has been derived, which suggests the conditions for ensuring the persistence and elimination of the disease. Further, to validate the model, actual HIV data taken from Mexico and India separately have been used. The disease dynamics and its control in both countries are analyzed broadly. The values of biological parameters are estimated at which numerical solutions better match the actual data of HIV patients in the case of fractional-order (FO) instead of integer-order (IO). Moreover, in the light of ℛ 0 α , our findings forecast that the disease will abide in the population in Mexico, and at the same time, it will die out from India after a long time. This paper aims to open reflections and encourage dialogue regarding the relevance of the inclusion of digital culture as an element of interest within the educational model of Intercultural Universities, specifically, in the curriculum of the Bachelor's Degree in Intercultural Communication. This paper describes the creation and structuring of the Group of Science Libraries (GBC)1 based on the administrative records generated. This allows University as well as national coverage among the various libraries of Higher Education Institutions in Mexico. This is accomplished by the establishment of a library brand allowing for greater visibility, so specialized users can meet their information needs with the various services and products offered, individually or jointly, by the GBC members. Additionally, this paper presents the elements taken into account, and the experience in the development of a library brand that would allow the group to gain greater recognition and academic visibility among libraries and research support librarians, at both a national and an international level. This paper overviews the use of social networks in university libraries in Mexico. It presents the analysis of posting trends at a national level, as well as an analysis of the use of various platforms, the dissemination they offer, and what they promote. Additionally, the paper evaluates the extent to which the possibilities offered by these platforms are exploited as low cost means of mass communication. The method is based on the analysis of posts from 50 university library sites on Twitter and 50 sites on Facebook from January 2017 to the beginning of August 2019. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Historically, water sanitation has not been a priority for any sector of society in Mexico, and substantial technical and ecological problems exist in this country's wastewater treatment systems. Constructed wetlands (CWs) have proven to be an exceptional alternative, particularly for rural areas in developing countries. This paper identifies the status of research on CWs in Mexico, and discusses the possibilities for their use. Our review showed that interest in CWs in Mexico is growing exponentially, particularly in academic institutions. Consequently, published documents are mostly on experimental wetlands, although there are a few experienced groups devoted to producing technology and providing training needed to apply CWs. CWs are generally used for domestic wastewater treatment, disregarding other pollution sources such as agriculture and industry. Rural communities have the most potential to obtain and apply this technology, but unfortunately their degree of use of these systems is still very low. The current status of research and application of CWs leads to a few options discussed in this paper to promote their use in Mexico, taking into account that the success of these alternatives can only be achieved by partnering with governments, water treatment companies, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions and rural communities. Abstract: This paper describes a hybrid method based on particle swarm optimization for designing ensemble neural networks with fuzzy aggregation of responses to forecast complex time series. The time series that was considered in this paper, to compare the hybrid approach with traditional methods, is the Mexican Stock Exchange, and the results shown are for the optimization of the structure of the ensemble neural network with type-1 and type-2 fuzzy logic integration. Simulation results show that the optimized ensemble neural network approach produces good prediction of the Mexican Stock Exchange. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Objectives. To determine clusters of individuals who present similar health behaviors in terms of diet, physical activity, and sedentarism, in four countries of the Americas: Brazil (2013), Chile (2009), Mexico (2012), and the United States of America (2013). This makes it possible to determine which of these behaviors occur simultaneously, as well as the demographic and sociodemographic characteristics associated with each cluster. Methods. The individual-level data analyzed were drawn from national health interviews and health examination surveys in Brazil, Chile, Mexico, and the United States, for different time periods. Using international physical activity guidelines and national dietary guidelines, the health behaviors of each individual were assessed. A latent class analysis was conducted to classify individuals into clusters based on these behaviors, and was followed by multinomial regressions to determine the characteristics of those in each class. Results. Overall, most individuals belonged to the classes characterized by average or unhealthy diets but sufficient amounts of physical activity. However, large differences exist across countries and population groups. Men with higher socioeconomic characteristics were globally more likely to belong to the least healthy class in each country. Conclusions. Findings from this analysis support the implementation of more refined policy actions to target specific unhealthy behaviors in different population groups, defined by gender, age group, socioeconomic status, and, to some extent, place of residence. Objective. To determine the level of stability or change in topic areas published by public health journals in Latin America and the Caribbean, using Keywords: and co-word analysis, in order to support evidence-based research planning. Methods. Keywords: were extracted from papers indexed in Scopus® that were published by the Revista de Salud Pública (RSP; Colombia), the Salud Pública de México (SPM; Mexico), and the Revista Peruana de Medicina Experimental y Salud Pública (RPMESP; Peru) for three periods: 2005 - 2007, 2008 - 2010, and 2011 - 2013. Co-word analysis was used to examine keywords extracted. Textual information was analyzed using centrality measures (inbetweenness and closeness). The hypothesis of stability/change of thematic coverage was tested using the Spearman's rho correlation coefficient. VOSviewer was used to visualize the co-word maps. Results. A moderate level of change in thematic coverage was observed in 2005 - 2010, as evidenced by the correlation coefficients for two of the 3-year periods, 2005 - 2007 and 2008 - 2010: 0.545 for RSP and 0.593 for SPM. However, in 2008 - 2013, more keywords remained constant from one period to the next, given the size of the correlation coefficients for the last 3-year periods: 2008 -- 2010 and 2011 - 2013: 0.727 for RSP and 0.605 for SPM. Conclusion. The research hypothesis was partially accepted given that just two consecutive 3-year periods showed a statistically-significant degree of stability in thematic coverage in public health studies. In that sense, this study provides compelling evidence of the effectiveness of using a combined approach for examining the dynamics of thematic coverage: centrality measures for identifying the main keywords and visual inspection for detecting the structure of textual information. Mexico is exposed to droughts and vulnerable to their impacts. Despite a history of serious economic and social consequences from drought, until recently national water policy did not acknowledge this type of natural disaster as a priority issue. This paper analyses how drought policy in Mexico has evolved since the creation of the National Water Commission in 1989 up to 2013, when the most specific initiative in that regard was introduced: the National Drought Program (Programa Nacional Contra la Sequía, PRONACOSE). Over that period of time drought has slowly but steadily gained importance in national water planning and management. Significant initiatives have been implemented, including a national drought early warning and monitoring system. Nevertheless, efforts still focus on compensating economic losses after the fact and little has been achieved in terms of reducing the country's vulnerability to drought. There is a great need to increase public awareness and boost the scientific knowledge necessary for the design of appropriate preventive measures. This paper discusses the gestation process, implementation methodology, and results obtained from the initiative to use e-learning to train human resources for health, six years after the launch of the Virtual Campus of Public Health of the University of Guadalajara (Mexico); the discussion is framed by Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) standards and practices. This is a special report on the work done by the institutional committee of the Virtual Campus in western Mexico to create an Internet portal that follows the guidelines of the strategic model established by Nodo México and PAHO for the Region of the Americas. This Virtual Campus began its activities in 2007, on the basis of the use of free software and institutional collaboration. Since the initial year of implementation of the node, over 500 health professionals have been trained using virtual courses, the node’s educational platform, and a repository of virtual learning resources that are interoperable with other repositories in Mexico and the Region of the Americas. The University of Guadalajara Virtual Campus committee has followed the proposed model as much as possible, thereby achieving most of the goals set in the initial work plan, despite a number of administrative challenges and the difficulty of motivating committee members. • A contact-based extended SEIQR model is presented to model epidemic spreading in complex networks. • The model is validated with data from the spreading of COVID-19 in Germany, Mexico and the US. • Accurate predictions over long time periods, more then 150 days are achieved. • An ensemble Kalman Filter is proposed on validated for state estimation and data-assimilation to account for stochastic uncertainties. The main aim of the present paper is threefold. First, it aims at presenting an extended contact-based model for the description of the spread of contagious diseases in complex networks with consideration of asymptomatic evolutions. Second, it presents a parametrization method of the considered model, including validation with data from the actual spread of COVID-19 in Germany, Mexico and the United States of America. Third, it aims at showcasing the fruitful combination of contact-based network spreading models with a modern state estimation and filtering technique to (i) enable real-time monitoring schemes, and (ii) efficiently deal with dimensionality and stochastic uncertainties. The network model is based on an interpretation of the states of the nodes as (statistical) probability densities samples, where nodes can represent individuals, groups or communities, cities or countries, enabling a wide field of application of the presented approach.
