The optimization of industrial processes is a critical task for leveraging profitability and sustainability. To ensure the selection of optimum process parameter levels in any industrial process, numerous metaheuristic algorithms have been proposed so far. However, many algorithms are either computationally too expensive or become trapped in the pit of local optima. To counter these challenges, in this paper, a hybrid metaheuristic called PSO-GSA is employed that works by combining the iterative improvement capability of particle swarm optimization (PSO) and gravitational search algorithm (GSA). A binary PSO is also fused with GSA to develop a BPSO-GSA algorithm. Both the hybrid algorithms i.e., PSO-GSA and BPSO-GSA, are compared against traditional algorithms, such as tabu search (TS), genetic algorithm (GA), differential evolution (DE), GSA and PSO algorithms. Moreover, another popular hybrid algorithm DE-GA is also used for comparison. Since earlier works have already studied the performance of these algorithms on mathematical benchmark functions, in this paper, two real-world-applicable independent case studies on biodiesel production are considered. Based on the extensive comparisons, significantly better solutions are observed in the PSO-GSA algorithm as compared to the traditional algorithms. The key to the problem of node coverage in wireless sensor networks (WSN) is to deploy a limited number of sensors to achieve maximum coverage. This paper studies the hybrid strategies of multiple evolutionary algorithms, and applies them to the problem of WSN node coverage. We first proposed the hybrid algorithm SFLA-WOA (SWOA) based on Shuffled Frog Leaping Algorithm (SFLA) and Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA). The SWOA algorithm combines the advantages of SFLA and WOA; that is, it retains the unique evolution model of WOA and also has the excellent co-evolution capability of SFLA. Secondly, using the mutation, crossover and selection operations of the differential evolution (DE) algorithm to further optimize this hybrid algorithm, the SWOA-based SFLA-WOA-DE (SWOAD) algorithm is proposed. In addition, the performance of SWOA and SWOAD has been tested by 30 benchmark functions in the CEC 2017 test set. Experimental results show that the optimization effects of these two algorithms are very outstanding. Finally, the simulation results show that the optimization algorithm proposed in this paper has a good effect on improving the signal coverage of WSN under the actual three-dimensional terrain. Multifactorial evolution algorithm (MFEA) is a powerful search paradigm with the purpose of addressing multiple optimization tasks simultaneously in the field of evolutionary computation. The assortative mating of MFEA is a key component to make it outperform traditional single-task optimization algorithms. However, the optimal solution of each generation has still not been well utilized to accelerate convergence in the process of assortative mating operation for existing MFEAs. This paper proposes a multifactorial differential evolution algorithm with optima-based transformation (MFDE-OBT), which employs the optimal solution of each generation to design an improved assortative mating operation based on the DE/rand/2 mutation. The improved operation generates an offspring for each individual by running a perturbation around a current optimal individual. The object of the assortative mating is a vector added for the perturbation, which is the sum of two difference vectors generated by a random sample with a certain probability from an individual set that can be same as or different from the one of the task involving the optimal individual. In addition, MFDE-OBT integrates an opposition-based search strategy behind the assortative mating operation to balance exploitation and exploration of each search space. Experimental results on benchmark problems constituted by tasks with different degree of similarity and intersection demonstrate the advantage of the proposed MFDE-OBT algorithm over some state-of-the-art algorithms, in terms of solution precision and convergence performance. The optimal power flow (OPF) is an important tool for the secure and economic operation of the power system. It attracts many researchers to pay close attention. Many algorithms are used to solve the OPF problem. The decomposition-based multi-objective algorithm (MOEA/D) is one of them. However, the effectiveness of the algorithm decreases as the size of the power system increases. Therefore, an improved MOEA/D (IMOEA/D) is proposed in this paper to solve the OPF problem. The main goal of IMOEA/D is to speed up the convergence of the algorithm and increase species diversity. To achieve this goal, three improvement strategies are introduced. Firstly, the competition strategy between the barnacle optimization algorithm and differential evolution algorithm is adopted to overcome the reduced species diversity. Secondly, an adaptive mutation strategy is employed to enhance species diversity at the latter stage of iteration. Finally, the selective candidate with similarity selection is used to balance the exploration and exploitation capabilities of the proposed algorithm. Simulation experiments are performed on IEEE 30-bus and IEEE 57-bus test systems. The obtained results show that the above three measures can effectively improve the diversity of the population, and also demonstrate the competitiveness and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm for the OPF problem. Meta-heuristic algorithms are widely used in complex problems that cannot be solved by traditional computing methods due to their powerful optimization capabilities. However, for high-complexity problems, the fitness function evaluation may take hours or even days to complete. The surrogate-assisted meta-heuristic algorithm effectively solves this kind of long solution time for the fitness function. Therefore, this paper proposes an efficient surrogate-assisted hybrid meta-heuristic algorithm by combining the surrogate-assisted model with gannet optimization algorithm (GOA) and the differential evolution (DE) algorithm, abbreviated as SAGD. We explicitly propose a new add-point strategy based on information from historical surrogate models, using information from historical surrogate models to allow the selection of better candidates for the evaluation of true fitness values and the local radial basis function (RBF) surrogate to model the landscape of the objective function. The control strategy selects two efficient meta-heuristic algorithms to predict the training model samples and perform updates. A generation-based optimal restart strategy is also incorporated in SAGD to select suitable samples to restart the meta-heuristic algorithm. We tested the SAGD algorithm using seven commonly used benchmark functions and the wireless sensor network (WSN) coverage problem. Four-bar linkages are one of the most widely used mechanisms in industries. This paper presents a comparative study on the accuracy and efficiency of the optimum synthesis of path-generating four-bar linkages using five metaheuristic optimization algorithms. The utilized metaheuristic methods included two swarm intelligence-based algorithms, i.e., particle swarm optimization and hybrid particle swarm optimization, and three evolutionary-based algorithms, i.e., differential evolution, ensemble of parameters and mutation strategies in differential evolution, and linearly ensemble of parameters and mutation strategies in differential evolution. The objective function to be minimized is the sum of squares of the distance between the generated points and the precision points of a coupler point. The optimal design of four-bar linkages must meet the Grashof's criteria and exhibit sequential constraints that can prevent the occurrence of order defect. This study investigated five representative cases of the dimensional synthesis of four-bar path generators with and without prescribed timing and compared the optimal solutions of the utilized five metaheuristic methods to those of previously reported algorithms in literature. The improved metaheuristic methods exhibited superior optimal solution and enhanced reliability compared to the original methods. Now, we have entered the "internet plus" era, and all industries are making use of information technology to seek a longer-term development. For vegetable distribution, we must rely on the power of information technology. Faced with complex global optimization problems, traditional optimization algorithms have many performance limitations, such as complex solution process and easy to fall into local optimization, which can't meet the needs of practical applications. This paper studies the design and application of optimization algorithm for vegetable planting and distribution based on adaptive differential evolution algorithm. The method adopted in this paper is adaptive differential evolution algorithm. In the original differential evolution algorithm, there are three undetermined parameters: population size (NP), variation factor (F) and crossover probability (CR). In the process of evolution, NP takes a fixed value, while the key control parameters F and CR, which affect the performance of the algorithm, will adaptively take different values on [0,1], and the values of F and CR will be recalculated for each individual in each generation. The soil water retention curve (SWRC) has a significant role in determining the unsaturated properties of soil. A stochastic optimisation algorithm named Rao-1 algorithm is employed to estimate the parameters of the SWRC model in this paper. The Rao-1 algorithm is a simple heuristic search algorithm containing only addition and multiplication operations. This paper introduces the method and its application in determining soil water retention this model parameters in detail. In this study, the van Genuchten model is used to depict the SWRC for its good fitting capacity, and the van Genuchten model parameters are determined using Rao-1 algorithm. The feasibility and efficiency of the proposed method are validated via the experimental results of 24 soil samples of 12 soil textural classes. Besides, the performance of Rao-1 algorithm is compared with that of salp swarm algorithm, the particle swarm optimization algorithm, differential evolution algorithm, and RETC program. In recent years, a range of novel and pseudonovel optimization algorithms has been proposed for solving engineering problems. Swarm intelligence optimization algorithms (SIAs) have become popular methods, and the whale optimization algorithm (WOA) is one of the highly discussed SIAs. However, regardless of novelty concerns about this method, the basic WOA is a weak method compared to top differential evolutions and particle swarm variants, and it suffers from the problem of poor initial population quality and slow convergence speed. Accordingly, in this paper, to increase the diversity of WOA versions and enhance the performance of WOA, a new WOA variant, named LXMWOA, is proposed, and based on the L'evy initialization strategy, the directional crossover mechanism, and the directional mutation mechanism. Specifically, the introduction of the L'evy initialization strategy allows initial populations to be dynamically distributed in the search space and enhances the global search capability of the WOA. Meanwhile, the directional crossover mechanism and the directional mutation mechanism can improve the local exploitation capability of the WOA. To evaluate its performance, using a series of functions and three models of engineering optimization problems, the LXMWOA was compared with a broad array of competitive optimizers. The experimental results demonstrate that the LXMWOA is significantly superior to its exploration and exploitation capability peers. In multi-objective bilevel optimisation problems, the upper-level performance of different lower-level optimal solutions may be very different, even though they belong to the same lower-level problem. It may lead to poor optimisation results. Therefore, the lower-level search should search lower-level non-dominated solutions that are also non-dominated in the upper-level objective space. In this paper, we use two populations in the lower-level search. The first population maintains non-dominance and diversity in the lower-level objective space and provides the second population with convergence pressure from the lower level. The second population selects the upper-level non-dominated solutions that are not dominated by the first population in the lower-level objective space, which make the second population maintain the non-dominance at both upper and lower levels. Besides, to improve the search efficiency, we set up the upper-level mating pool to generate the upper-level vectors of offsprings near the upper-level vectors of the better individuals in the current population. To balance convergence and diversity, the selection operator of a decomposition based multi-objective evolutionary algorithm is adopted. The proposed algorithm has been evaluated on a set of benchmark problems and a real-world optimisation problem. The decomposition-based algorithm, for example, multiobjective evolutionary algorithm based on decomposition (MOEA/D), has been proved effective and useful in a variety of multiobjective optimization problems (MOPs). On the basis of MOEA/D, the MOEA/D-DE replaces the simulated binary crossover (SBX) operator with differential evolution (DE) operator, which is used to enhance the diversity of the solutions more effectively. However, the amplification factor and the crossover probability are fixed in MOEA/D-DE, which would lead to a low convergence rate and be more likely to fall into local optimum. To overcome such a prematurity problem, this paper proposes three different adaptive operators in DE with crossover probability and amplification factors to adjust the parameter settings adaptively. We incorporate these three adaptive operators in MOEA/D-DE and MOEA/D-PaS to solve MOPs and many-objective optimization problems (MaOPs), respectively. This paper also designs a sensitive experiment for the changeable parameter η in the proposed adaptive operators to explore how η would affect the convergence of the proposed algorithms. These adaptive algorithms are tested on many benchmark problems, including ZDT, DTLZ, WFG, and MaF test suites. The main aim of multimodal optimization problems (MMOPs) is to find and deal with multiple optimal solutions using an objective function. MMOPs perform the exploration and exploitation simultaneously in the search space. The novelty of this paper includes the following improvements in differential evolution to be able to solve MMOPs. Clusters are formed from the whole population by applying a niching technique which uses the softmax strategy to assign a cutting probability to the species. Then iterative mutation strategy is followed to generate the unbiased mutant vector. Further, Multi-Armed Bandit (MAB) strategy is used to ensure that new individuals are generated in promising areas. The experimentation of the proposed algorithm has been performed on 20 benchmark functions from IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation 2013 (CEC2013). In this paper, a new design approach of approximately linear phase infinite impulse response (IIR) low pass digital differentiator (LPDD) is proposed and studied. The proposed design is based on a transfer function that has a numerator with anti-symmetric coefficients. To better control the magnitude response of the designed LPDD, the differential evolution (DE) optimization algorithm is used to find the coefficients of the transfer function that meets an appropriate pass band and stop band edge frequencies. The use of appropriate pass band and stop band edge frequencies gives the designer of the LPDD direct control on the width of the transition band. The designed LPDD using the proposed approach has approximately linear phase and much better magnitude response than that of the IIR LPDDs designed using other techniques reported in literature. In addition, the designed LPDD using the proposed approach has steeper roll-off magnitude response and narrower transition band than that of designed IIR and high order FIR LPDDs available in the literature. Hybridization of meta-heuristic algorithms plays a major role in the optimization problem. In this paper, a new hybrid meta-heuristic algorithm called hybrid pathfinder algorithm (HPFA) is proposed to solve the optimal reactive power dispatch (ORPD) problem. The superiority of the Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm is the fast convergence speed, a mutation operator in the DE algorithm incorporates into the pathfinder algorithm (PFA). The main objective of this research is to minimize the real power losses and subject to equality and inequality constraints. The HPFA is used to find optimal control variables such as generator voltage magnitude, transformer tap settings and capacitor banks. The proposed HPFA is implemented through several simulation cases on the IEEE 118-bus system and IEEE 300-bus power system. Results show the superiority of the proposed algorithm with good quality of optimal solutions over existing optimization techniques, and hence confirm its potential to solve the ORPD problem. In this paper, we propose an improved Harris hawk optimizer (IHHO) to overcome the shortcomings of Harris hawk optimizer (HHO) that there is aimless search in the global search process. IHHO is different from HHO in that during the global search process, the position of the Harris hawks is not random but moves according to the position of the best several Harris hawks in the population. The advantage of the new global search process in the IHHO is that it effectively improves the quality of candidate solutions. We use the proposed algorithm to solve job-shop scheduling problem, which is an NP-hard problem and also a very challenging optimization problem, because it is difficult to find a reasonable candidate solution in polynomial time. Many researchers have tried various methods to solve it, but failed to get an effective result. Therefore, we use it to verify the performance of the proposed algorithm. The experimental results of IHHO are compared with those of improved genetic algorithm, differential evolution and HHO. It can be seen from the experimental results that IHHO has obvious advantages compared with the results of other comparison algorithms in terms of convergence accuracy, convergence speed, stability and running time. The experimental results of Wilcoxon's rank sum test also show that the IHHO is essentially different from other comparison algorithms, which shows that the optimization performance of the IHHO is meaningful. This paper develops a robust strategy based on integrating three mutation phases and adapted control parameters into the Adaptive Guided Differential Evolution algorithm called (mAGDE) to improve diversity and exploration of the original AGDE. The mAGDE performance is evaluated using IEEE CEC'2020 test suite. Furthermore, the mAGDE is employed to identify the solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) model optimal parameters. Two modes of SOFC operation are investigated, steady and transient states. The results obtained from the proposed mAGDE are compared with a number of recent, well-established and reputed meta-heuristics, including Particle swarm optimization, Teaching learning-based optimization, Whale optimization algorithm, Harris hawks optimization, Marine predators algorithm, Archimedes optimization algorithm, Differential evolution, and the original AGDE. Additionally, the statistical parameters that measure the performance of the proposed optimizer and the other competitors are calculated. The main finding demonstrated the preference and robustness of the suggested mAGDE in constructing the SOFC circuit that closely converges to the actual one. During the steady-state operation, the best fitness value obtained via the suggested mAGDE for operation at 1273 K is 2.2995E−06, while in the transient-state operation, the best SMSE is 1.04. The average cost function is decreased by 43.33% compared to the one obtained by the original AGDE. Multimodal multi-objective optimization (MMO) can offer more elegant solutions and provide diverse decisions to decision-makers in real world optimization problems. Many multimodal evolutionary mechanisms have been proposed to explore and exploit two solution spaces (i.e. decision space and objective space) in recent years. However, most existing methods only use single evolutionary operator to generate offsprings and ignore the advantage of using hybrid evolutionary algorithm. Moreover, it is still a great challenge to balance the effectiveness and efficiency simultaneously in the evolutionary process of MMO. In view of this, an efficient Two-Archive model based multimodal evolutionary algorithm is proposed in this paper. Two parallel offspring generation mechanisms based on competitive particle swarm optimizer and differential evolution are applied to expand two solution spaces with different evolutionary requirements. Moreover, niching local search scheme and reverse vector mutation strategy play roles in achieving better convergence and diversity. Finally, 22 MMO test problems are used to validate the superiority of the proposed method by comparing it with 5 state-of-the-art MMO algorithms. Wireless sensor networks are appealing, largely because they do not need wired infrastructure, but it is precisely this feature that renders them energy-constrained. The duty cycle scheduling is perceived as a contributor to the energy efficiency of sensing. This paper developed a novel paradigm for modeling wireless sensor networks; in this context, an adaptive sensing scheduling strategy is proposed depending on event occurrence behavior, and the scheduling problem is framed as an optimization problem. The optimization objectives include reducing energy depletion and optimizing detection accuracy. We determine the explicit form of the objective function by numerical fitting and found that the objective function aggregated by the fitting functions is a bivariate multimodal function that favors the Fibonacci tree optimization algorithm. Then, with the optimal parameters optimized by the Fibonacci tree optimization algorithm, the scheduling scheme can be easily deployed, and it behaves consistently in the coming hours. The proposed "Fibonacci Tree Optimization Strategy" ("FTOS") outperforms lightweight deployment-aware scheduling (LDAS), balanced-energy scheduling (BS), distributed self-spreading algorithm (DSS) and probing environment and collaborating adaptive sleeping (PECAS) in achieving the aforementioned scheduling objectives. Driver pathways have been acknowledged to play critical roles in the initiation and progression of cancers►hence it is essential for precision medicine related studies to develop accurate and efficient methods to identify them. Although previous approaches have shown promising results by integrating multi-omics data, their preset artificial parameters may decrease the convenience to use and limit the application scalability. In this paper, a novel integration approach is proposed to incorporate four omics data, i.e., construct a weighted non-binary mutation matrix without presetting artificial parameters. A parameter-free identification model is put forward based on it. It takes advantage of the association between genes in the PPI network as well as balances the contribution of coverage and mutual exclusivity with the harmonic mean. Furthermore, a cooperative co-evolution algorithm is proposed for solving this model. In the algorithm, a particle swarm optimization algorithm suitable for solving combinatorial problems is presented. Three cooperative operators are devised to construct the cooperation among the populations and the swarm to increase the population diversity. Both real biological datasets and simulated ones were exerted to perform experimental comparisons among the proposed method and six other state-of-the-art ones. The gene sets identified by the presented method generally contain more genes involved in known signaling pathways than those obtained by the other methods. This work presents an automated design methodology for time-mode proportional and integral (PI) controllers aimed for an on-chip switched-capacitor (SC) dc/dc converter system. The basis of this design is the use of evolutionary optimization algorithms to find the near-optimal set of sizings for the time-mode PI controller. It is motivated due to the difficulty faced when tuning the controller parameters at a circuit level, which arise as a result of the presence of modeling inaccuracies and the small region for the linearized model where it is defined. Moreover, this design proposes the required modifications for the original design presented for the inductor-based dc/dc converter. These modifications are necessary to operate the SC dc/dc converter in slow switching limit (SSL). The addition of a pulse-width-modulated (PWM)-to-pulse frequency-modulated (PFM) conversion block is presented and elaborated in this article. The controller is codesigned using the differential evolution algorithm for the circuit level implementation to mitigate the issues prior mentioned. The optimized controller is then tested in a simulation environment using TSMC $0.18~\mu \text{m}$ technology. Intelligent optimization algorithms are widely utilized to deal with complex optimization problems in various areas. However, a single intelligent optimization algorithm cannot handle well more and more complex optimization problems. The ensemble strategy can integrate several different operators and algorithms by using some appropriate strategies and maybe obtain better optimization performance. In this paper, a new ensemble multi-swarm method based on teaching–learning-based optimization (EMTLBO) was proposed by integrating three different algorithms including the original teaching–learning-based optimization algorithm, its variant with neighborhood search and the variant with differential evolution. In EMTLBO, a new evaluating mechanism based on the fitness-based and diversity-based metrics (FDEM) for each sub-swarm was proposed to evaluate the optimization performance after a continuous generation interval. Moreover, an algorithm matching mechanism based on ranking for sub-swarms (AMM) is adapted to re-divide the population into three sub-swarms and match a suitable algorithm for each sub-swarm so as to increase the whole optimization performance. Furthermore, the experimental results on CEC2014 and CEC2017 test suits verify the feasibility and optimization performance of EMTLBO. Optimal foraging algorithm (OFA) is a newly stochastic optimization technique and is famous for its computational accuracy. However, the high computational accuracy leads to slow convergence speed. Experimental results demonstrate that OFA is good at unimodal functions but poor at multimodal functions. To improve these drawbacks, in this paper a novel modified OFA with direction prediction and Gaussian oscillation, named OFA/P&G is introduced. In OFA/P&G, a transition matrix is constructed when a new global optimum is found to generate the candidate individuals. If the current global optimum does not change, the Gaussian oscillation is employed in a low probability and OFA update method is used in a high probability to generate the candidate individuals. The superior performance of OFA/P&G is verified on the 12 CEC2017 benchmark functions, 13 constrained benchmark functions and 5 engineering problems. With the increasingly serious problem of environmental pollution and resource scarcity, remanufacturing has become one of the popular research fields to solve these issues. However, the practical information of end-of-life products is different (e.g. type and degree of damage) because of their various operation conditions, which complicates the reprocessing routes. Therefore, a new remanufacturing system scheduling model is proposed in this study that considers not only the coordination of remanufacturing subsystems but also job-shop-type reprocessing shops related to the diversified reprocessing routes. A hybrid meta-heuristic algorithm combining differential evolution algorithm and biogeography-based optimization algorithm through a new representation scheme is presented to address the model efficiently. Furthermore, the basic algorithms are improved by integrating the self-adaptive parameters, efficient migration and mutation operators, local search strategy, and restart strategy. Differential evolution (DE) is a very effective stochastic optimization algorithm based on population for solving various real-world problems. The quality of solutions to these problems is mainly determined by the combination of mutation strategies and their parameters in DE. However, in the process of solving these problems, the population diversity and local search ability will gradually deteriorate. Therefore, we propose a multi-population differential evolution (MUDE) algorithm with a uniform local search to balance exploitation and exploration. With MUDE, the population is divided into multiple subpopulations with different population sizes, which perform different mutation strategies according to the evolution ratio, i.e., DE/rand/1, DE/current-to-rand/1, and DE/current-to-pbest/1. To improve the diversity of the population, the information is migrated between subpopulations by the soft-island model. Furthermore, the local search ability is improved by way of the uniform local search. As a result, the proposed MUDE maintains exploitation and exploration capabilities throughout the process. MUDE is extensively evaluated on 25 functions of the CEC 2005 benchmark. To address the problems of uneven distribution and low coverage of wireless sensor network (WSN) nodes in random deployment, a node coverage optimization strategy with an improved COOT bird algorithm (COOTCLCO) is proposed. Firstly, the chaotic tent map is used to initialize the population, increase the diversity of the population, and lay the foundation for the global search for the optimal solutions. Secondly, the Lévy flight strategy is used to perturb the individual positions to improve the search range of the population. Thirdly, Cauchy mutation and an opposition-based learning strategy are fused to perturb the optimal solutions to generate new solutions and enhance the ability of the algorithm to jump out of the local optimum. Finally, the COOTCLCO algorithm is applied to WSN coverage optimization problems. Simulation results show that COOTCLCO has a faster convergence speed and better search accuracy than several other typical algorithms on 23 benchmark test functions; meanwhile, the coverage rate of the COOTCLCO algorithm is increased by 9.654%, 13.888%, 6.188%, 5.39%, 1.31%, and 2.012% compared to particle swarm optimization (PSO), butterfly optimization algorithm (BOA), seagull optimization algorithm (SOA), whale optimization algorithm (WOA), Harris hawks optimization (HHO), and bald eagle search (BES), respectively. This means that in terms of coverage optimization effect, COOTCLCO can obtain a higher coverage rate compared to these algorithms. In this paper, a new compact algorithm is proposed. Two sinusoidal formulas are used to automatically adjust the crossover rate and the mutation scaling factor in the compact Differential Evolution (cDE) metaheuristic. The proposed algorithm, called Compound Sinusoidal cDE, CScDE, is compared to seven state-of-the-art compact algorithms on the well-known BBOB test-bed, the CEC-2014 test suite for continuous optimisation, as well as five real-world optimisation problems chosen from the CEC-2011 benchmarks. The CScDE algorithm outperformed its competitors for most problem categories and over most dimensions. Trajectory optimization is essentially an optimal control problem (OCP) with highly nonlinear dynamic properties and complex constraints, and a critical part of spacecraft design. In this paper, a hybrid algorithm is proposed for automatic reentry trajectory optimization of reusable launch vehicle (RLV) without providing user-specified initial guesses and a priori knowledge about the optimal trajectory. The method combines the strong robustness and global optimization properties of hyper-heuristic whale optimization algorithm (HHWOA) with the efficient and accurate features of the Gauss pseudospectral method (GPM). HHWOA works as the first-stage optimizer aims to obtain an approximate solution to provide a high-quality initial guess for the GPM, while the GPM works as the second-stage optimizer aims to accelerate the search of the optimum neighborhood to obtain an accurate optimal solution. Additionally, to enhance the progress during the evolutionary process, HHWOA is equipped with opposition-based learning, differential evolution operators, chaotic map sequences and smoothing technique strategies. The utilization of such strategies can potentially smooth the flight trajectory and improve the global convergence of the algorithm, while the three OCPs have shown their superiority in HHWOA. In order to evaluate the performance of the hybrid algorithm, complex constrained RLV maximum cross-range reentry problems with three different path constraint scenarios are investigated. Furthermore, more discussion and experiments are likewise conducted to investigate the impact of the parameters on the performance of the algorithm. Moth–Flame Optimization (MFO) algorithm is widely used to solve real parameter global optimization problems. However, the original MFO algorithm has some problems. First, the global search ability of the algorithm is insufficient due to the lack of high-quality flames or the lack of diversity of the population. Moreover, due to the reduction of the number of flames mechanism and the simple transverse orientation flight mode of moths, the algorithm is easy to fall into local optimum. To overcome these difficulties, a new MFO called ODSFMFO is proposed in this paper, which consists of an improved flame generation mechanism based on Opposition-Based Learning (OBL) and Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm, and an enhanced local search mechanism based on Shuffled Frog Leaping Algorithm (SFLA) and death mechanism. The ODSFMFO firstly obtains a high-quality population through opposition-based learning, then enhances the diversity of the population through differential evolution algorithm, to improve the global search ability of the algorithm, and then, employs an improved shuffled frog leaping algorithm as a local search algorithm, and uses the death mechanism to eliminate the individuals with low fitness value, which not only make the algorithm easy to jump out of the local optimum, but also further improve the convergence speed. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, the ODSFMFO and other fourteen well-known optimization algorithms are tested and compared on 28 benchmark tasks of CEC 2013 and 30 benchmark tasks of CEC 2017. In view of the advantages of CFD technology in the simulation of small and medium-scale chemical hazard diffusion, one near-field prediction model of chemical hazard diffusion named CHDNFP is constructed based on CFD technology, and the accuracy and efficiency of the model are improved by improved differential evolution algorithm (DEA) and fireworks algorithm (FWA). Firstly, based on the component conservation equation, momentum conservation equation, and turbulence control equation, CHDNFP model is constructed, whose basic solution process is proposed from three aspects: non-uniform mesh refinement in diffusion space, model discretization, and iterative solution of control equation. Secondly, comprehensive considering the global search ability, local search ability, and convergence characteristics of integrated DEA and FWA, a hybrid optimization algorithm IDEFWA is designed, which is suitable for predictive model solving. Finally, the CHDNFP model and IDEFWA are verified by tracer experiments. The result shows that: IDEFWA can reduce the relative root mean square error between the predicted concentration field and the observed concentration field to about 25%, with the calculation accuracy of 10–19 and the standard deviation accuracy of 10–9; compared with ABCA and GA, IDEFWA can get more accurate solutions faster under the same algebraic and population conditions; the calculation accuracy of CHDNFP–IDEFWA and PISOFOAM is almost the same, where the relative difference is about 3%, and CHDNFP–IDEFWA has better calculation accuracy than PISOFOAM, which is improved by about 26.05%. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have shown their superiority in military and civilian missions. In the face of complex tasks, many UAVs are usually needed to cooperate with each other. Therefore, multi-UAV cooperative target search has attracted more and more scholars' attention. At present, there are many bionic algorithms for solving the cooperative search problem of multi-UAVs, including particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO) and differential evolution (DE). Pigeon-inspired optimization (PIO) is a new swarm intelligence optimization algorithm proposed in recent years. It has great advantages over other algorithms in convergence, robustness, and accuracy, and has few parameters to be adjusted. Aiming at the shortcomings of the standard pigeon colony algorithm, such as poor population diversity, slow convergence speed, and the ease of falling into local optimum, we have proposed chaotic disturbance pigeon-inspired optimization (CDPIO) algorithm. The improved tent chaotic map was used to initialize the population and increase the diversity of the population. The disturbance factor is introduced in the iterative update stage of the algorithm to generate new individuals, replace the individuals with poor performance, and carry out disturbance to increase the optimization accuracy. Benchmark functions and UAV target search model were used to test the algorithm performance. The optimal resource allocation in the large-scale intelligent device-to-device (D2D) communication system is of great importance for improving system spectrum efficiency and ensuring communication quality. In this study, the D2D resource allocation is modelled as an ultrahigh-dimensional optimization (UHDO) problem with thousands of binary dimensionalities. Then, for efficiently optimizing this UHDO problem, the coupling relationships among those dimensionalities are comprehensively analysed, and several efficient variable-grouping strategies are developed, i.e., cellular user grouping (CU-grouping), D2D pair grouping (DP-grouping), and random grouping (R-grouping). In addition, a novel evolutionary algorithm called the cooperatively coevolving particle swarm optimization with variable-grouping (VGCC-PSO) is developed, in which a novel mutation operation is introduced for ensuring fast satisfaction of constraints. Finally, the proposed UHDO-based allocation model and VGCC-PSO algorithm as well as the grouping and mutation strategies are verified by a comprehensive set of case studies. Simulation results show that the developed VGCC-PSO algorithm performs the best in optimizing the UHDO model with up to 6000 dimensionalities. Summary: This article presents a new optimization method to solve dynamic economic emission dispatch (DEED) problem incorporating wind power by using a hybrid nature inspired multi‐objective algorithm based on equilibrium optimizer (EO) and differential evolution (DE). In the proposed algorithm, the EO with a competitive mechanism and an additional exploration strategy is devised to explore the whole search space, while the DE with a ranking mutation operator and an opposition‐based learning strategy (OBL) is suggested to evolve the individuals of the external archive. The Kent chaotic map is adopted to generate a uniformly distributed initial population. The approach based on non‐dominated sort and improved crowding distance is utilized to screen equilibrium particles' leaders and to update the external archive. These strategies attempt to obtain a Pareto optimal front with excellent diversity and good convergence. Moreover, a real‐time constraints adjustment method and a penalty function method are combined to deal with complex constraints. The simulation results on the test system containing 10 thermal power units and one wind farm indicate that the proposed approach has much better performance than other methods for comparison.
