A burst behavior observed in the lateral habenula (LHb) neuron related to major depressive disorder has attracted much attention. The burst is induced from silence by the excitatory N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) synapse or by the inhibitory stimulation, i.e., a post-inhibitory rebound (PIR) burst, which has not been explained clearly. In the present paper, the neuronal and synaptic dynamics for the PIR burst are acquired in a theoretical neuron model. At first, dynamic cooperations between the fast rise of inhibitory γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) synapse, slow rise of NMDA synapse, and T-type calcium current to evoke the PIR burst are obtained. Similar to the inhibitory pulse stimulation, fast rising GABA current can reduce the membrane potential to a level low enough to de-inactivate the low threshold T-type calcium current to evoke a PIR spike, which can enhance the slow rising NMDA current activated at a time before or after the PIR spike. The NMDA current following the PIR spike exhibits slow decay to induce multiple spikes to form the PIR burst. Such results present a theoretical explanation and a candidate for the PIR burst in real LHb neurons. Then, the dynamical mechanism for the PIR spike mediated by the T-type calcium channel is obtained. At large conductance of T-type calcium channel, the resting state corresponds to a stable focus near Hopf bifurcation and exhibits an "uncommon" threshold curve with membrane potential much lower than the resting membrane potential. Inhibitory modulation induces membrane potential decreased to run across the threshold curve to evoke the PIR spike. At small conductance of the T-type calcium channel, a stable node appears and manifests a common threshold curve with higher membrane potential, resulting in non-PIR phenomenon. The results present the dynamic cooperations between neuronal dynamics and fast/slow dynamics of different synapses for the PIR burst observed in the LHb neuron, which is helpful for the modulations to major depressive disorder. This paper deals with the problem of process faults in the Lorenz system that can affect any of the system parameters and cause the system to exhibit various behaviors. In this paper, the homoclinic orbits in the Lorenz system are described and then the occurrence of process faults in the system is investigated that can cause a homoclinic explosion, bifurcation, change of fixed point, or even instability in the system. In such systems, where a small change in one of the parameters causes large changes in the behavior of the system, to prevent disaster in industrial systems and also to stop the propagation of faults in the system, the faults must be identified as soon as possible. In this paper, the states in the system are estimated by using a reduced-order observer, and the faults are detected. The purpose of this article is to recognize the change in behavior of this system in the face of this type of fault and to express the importance of timely detection and identification of faults in the system so as not to lead to failure and disaster in industrial systems. Purpose: The present paper investigates the bursting dynamics and its mechanism of the general hybrid Rayleigh-van der Pol-Duffing oscillator with two external periodic excitations. The study aims to avoid or reasonably utilize the vibrations induced by self-excited system in engineering. Methods: This paper mainly uses the fast–slow analysis method. First, we analyze the stability and bifurcation structure of the equilibrium point of the system with a single external excitation. Through the bifurcation set, we discover that the system has fold bifurcation and Hopf bifurcation. The direction of the Hopf bifurcation is obtained by calculating the first Lyapunov coefficient. When two external excitations exist, by employing de Moivre's equation, the original system transforms into a new form with a single slow variable. The classical machinery of fast subsystem analysis is used to investigate the bursting oscillations. Besides, the transformed phase diagrams are used to reveal the bifurcation mechanism. Results: Two bursting oscillations, namely symmetric fold/supHopf bursting and symmetric fold/fold bursting, are observed in the system with one periodic excitation. With two external excitations, the "turnover-of-fold-hystersis-induced" bursting, "symmetric periodic 2-fold" bursting, "symmetric periodic 6-fold" bursting, "symmetric periodic 10-fold" bursting and "symmetric periodic 14-fold" bursting are found and analyzed in detail. At the same time, the results show that with the increase of amplitudes of the external excitations, qualitative changes occur. Conclusions: With the addition of the second periodic excitation, the original bursting patterns induced by a single periodic excitation change completely. Antiphase bursting related to the rhythmic motor behavior exhibits complex dynamics modulated by the inhibitory synaptic current (Isyn), especially in the presence of the hyperpolarization-activated cation current (Ih). In the present paper, the dynamics of antiphase bursting modulated by the Ih and Isyn is studied in three aspects with a theoretical model. Firstly, the Isyn and the slow Ih with strong strength are the identified to be the necessary conditions for the antiphase bursting. The dependence of the antiphase bursting on the two currents is different for low (escape mode) and high (release mode) threshold voltages (Vth) of the inhibitory synapse. Secondly, more detailed co-regulations of the two currents to induce opposite changes of the bursting period are obtained. For the escape mode, increase of the Ih induces elevated membrane potential of the silence inhibited by a strong Isyn and shortened silence duration to go beyond Vth, resulting in reduced bursting period. For the release mode, increase of the Ih induces elevated tough value of the former part of the burst modulated by a nearly zero Isyn and lengthen burst duration to fall below Vth, resulting in prolonged bursting period. Finally, the fast-slow dynamics of the antiphase bursting are acquired. Using one-and two-parameter bifurcations of the fast subsystem of a single neuron, the burst of the antiphase bursting is related to the stable limit cycle, and the silence modulated by a strong Isyn to the stable equilibrium to a certain extent. The Ih mainly modulates the dynamics within the burst and quiescent state. Furthermore, with the fast subsystem of the coupled neurons, the silence is associated with the unstable equilibrium point. The results present theoretical explanations to the changes in the bursting period and fast-slow dynamics of the antiphase bursting modulated by the Isyn and Ih, which is helpful for understanding the antiphase bursting and modulating rhythmic motor patterns. Inspired by the airway for phonation, fluid flow in an idealized model within a sudden expansion and contraction channel with a geometrically symmetric structure is investigated, and the nonlinear behaviors of the flow therein are explored via numerical simulations. Numerical simulation results show that, as the Reynolds number (Re = U0H/ν) increases, the numerical solution undergoes a pitchfork bifurcation, an inverse pitchfork bifurcation and a Hopf bifurcation. There are symmetric solutions, asymmetric solutions and oscillatory solutions for flows. When the sudden expansion ratio (Er) = 6.00, aspect ratio (Ar) = 1.78 and Re ≤ Rec1 (≈185), the numerical solution is unique, symmetric and stable. When Rec1 < Re ≤ Rec2 (≈213), two stable asymmetric solutions and one symmetric unstable solution are reached. When Rec2 < Re ≤ Rec3 (≈355), the number of numerical solution returns one, which is stable and symmetric. When Re > Rec3, the numerical solution is oscillatory. With increasing Re, the numerical solution develops from periodic and multiple periodic solutions to chaos. The critical Reynolds numbers (Rec1, Rec2 and Rec3) and the maximum return velocity, at which reflux occurs in the channel, change significantly under conditions with different geometry. This paper studies an Ebola epidemic model with an exponential nonlinear incidence function that considers the efficacy and the behaviour change. The current model also incorporates a new density-dependent treatment that catches the impact of the disease transmission on the treatment. Firstly, we provide a theoretical study of the nonlinear differential equations model obtained. More precisely, we derive the effective reproduction number and, under suitable conditions, prove the stability of equilibria. Afterwards, we show that the model exhibits the phenomenon of backward-bifurcation whenever the bifurcation parameter and the reproduction number are less than one. We find that the bistability and backward-bifurcation are not automatically connected in epidemic models. In fact, when a backward-bifurcation occurs, the disease-free equilibrium may be globally stable. Numerically, we use well-known standard tools to fit the model to the data reported for the 2018e2020 Kivu Ebola outbreak, and perform the sensitivity analysis. To control Ebola epidemics, our findings recommend a combination of a rapid behaviour change and the implementation of a proper treatment strategy with a high level of efficacy. Secondly, we propose and analyze a fractional-order Ebola epidemic model, which is an extension of the first model studied. This paper conducts an in-depth study on the dynamic stability and complex vibration behavior of a 12-pole active magnetic bearing (AMB) system considering gravitational effects under a PD controller. Firstly, based on electromagnetic theory and Newton's second law, a two-degree-of-freedom control equation of the system, including PD control terms and gravitational effects, is constructed. This equation involves not only parametric excitation, quadratic nonlinearity, and cubic nonlinearity but also a more pronounced coupling effect between the magnetic poles due to the presence of gravity. Secondly, using the multi-scale method, a four-dimensional averaged equation of the system in Cartesian and polar coordinates is derived. Finally, through numerical analysis, the system's amplitude–frequency response, motion trajectory, the relationship between energy and amplitude, and global dynamic behaviors such as bifurcation and chaos are discussed in detail. The results show that the PD controller significantly affects the system's spring hardening/softening characteristics, excitation, amplitude, energy, and stability. Specifically, increasing the proportional gain can quickly suppress the rotor's motion, but it also increases the system's instability. In this paper, a predator–prey model with fear-induced group defense and Monod–Haldane functional response is considered. We establish a connection between fear effect and group defense by incorporating anti-predator sensitivity and emphasizing their impact on the dynamics of the model. Our analysis shows that increasing anti-predator sensitivity lowers the threshold for initiating group defense, leading to faster adoption of prey defense strategies. The preliminary results include positivity, boundedness, and persistence. We find that under certain thresholds, anti-predator sensitivity can sustain species persistence; otherwise, predators may face extinction. Changes in anti-predator sensitivity significantly influence system dynamics, notably affecting the quantity and stability of equilibrium points. We provide a comprehensive analysis of the global properties of both boundary and interior equilibrium points. Additionally, the system undergoes Transcritical, Saddle-node and Hopf bifurcation by considering the anti-predator sensitivity as a bifurcation parameter and Bogdanov–Takens bifurcation with respect to the prey birth rate and the anti-predator sensitivity. Numerical simulations support our theoretical findings. Our study highlights the complex interplay of fear effect, group defense, and anti-predator sensitivity in predator–prey dynamics. Our paper presents the chaotic behaviour of atmospheric systems with fractional order by using Bernoulli wavelet collocation technique. This technique has not yet been implemented on this model. The study have analysed the dynamics of three climate components—green house gases, temperature and permafrost thaw. To determine the simplicity and efficiency of the developed technique, numerical results have obtained. The combination of graphs and tables shows the stability and efficacy of the developed strategy. Based on the obtained results, we have draw the conclusion that this method offers superior accuracy and efficiency to other methods such as Adam Bashforth's method, Forward Euler's method and fde 12 solver method. This study have reveals the effectiveness of the numerical technique as well as the effect of the non integer derivative on atmospheric models. Bursting is a crucial form of firing in neurons, laden with substantial information. Studying it can aid in understanding the neural coding to identify human behavioral characteristics conducted by these neurons. However, the high-dimensionality of many neuron models imposes a difficult challenge in studying the generative mechanisms of bursting. On account of the high complexity and nonlinearity characteristic of these models, it becomes nearly impossible to theoretically study and analyze them. Thus, this paper proposed to address these issues by focusing on the midbrain dopamine neurons, serving as the central neuron model for the investigation of the bursting mechanisms and bifurcation behaviors exhibited by the neuron. In this study, we considered the dimensionality reduction of a high-dimensional neuronal model and analyzed the dynamical properties of the reduced system. To begin, for the original thirteen-dimensional model, using the correlation between variables, we reduced its dimensionality and obtained a simplified three-dimensional system. Then, we discussed the changing characteristics of the number of spikes within a burst by simultaneously varying two parameters. This paper is concerned with stochastic stability and stochastic bifurcation of the FitzhugNagumo model with multiplicative white noise. We employ largest Lyapunov exponent and singular boundary theory to investigate local and global stochastic stability at the equilibrium point. In the rest, the solution of averaging the Ito diffusion equation and extreme point of steady-state probability density function provide sufficient conditions that the stochastic system undergoes pitchfork and phenomenological bifurcations. These theoretical results of the stochastic neuroscience model are confirmed by some numerical simulations and stochastic trajectories. Finally, we compare this approach with Rulkov approach and explain how pitchfork and phenomenological bifurcations describe spiking limit cycles and stability of neuron’s resting state. Granular materials belong to the class of complex materials within which rich properties can emerge on large scales despite a simple physics operating on the microscopic scale. Most notable is the dissipative behaviour of such materials mainly through non-linear frictional interactions between the grains which go out of equilibrium. A whole variety of intriguing features thus emerges in the form of bifurcation modes in either patterning or un-jamming. This complexity of granular materials is mainly due to the geometrical disorder that exists in the granular structure. Diverse configurations of grain collections confer to the assembly the capacity to deform and adapt itself against different loading conditions. Whereas the incidence of frictional properties in the macroscopic plastic behavior has been well described for long, the role of topological reorganizations that occur remains much more elusive. This paper attempts to shed a new light on this issue by developing ideas following the configurational entropy concept within a proper statistical framework. As such, it is shown that contact opening and closing mechanisms can give rise to a so-called configurational dissipation which can explain the irreversible topological evolutions that granular materials undergo in the absence of frictional interactions. In this paper, a bogie system with time delay is established. The centre manifold theorem and norm form theory are used to reduce the infinite dimensional delay system to the finite dimensional ordinary differential system, and the bifurcation behaviour of the bogie system is analysed. The MatCont toolkit was used to verify the subcritical bifurcation in the system. In addition, the influence of parameters on the bifurcation diagram of the system and the influence of parameters on the critical speed of the bogie system during the hunting motion are also analysed. This paper investigates the importance of studying the dynamics of predator-prey systems and the specific significance of Neimark-Sacker and period-doubling bifurcations in discrete-time preypredator models. By conducting a numerical bifurcation analysis and examining bifurcation diagrams and phase portraits, we present important results that differentiate our study from others in the field. Firstly, our analysis reveals the occurrence of Neimark-Sacker and period-doubling bifurcations in the model under certain parameter values. These bifurcations lead to the emergence of stable limit cycles characterized by complex and unpredictable dynamics. This finding emphasizes the inherent complexity and nonlinearity of predator-prey systems and contributes to a deeper understanding of their dynamics. Additionally, our study highlights the advantages and limitations of employing discrete-time models in population dynamics research. The use of discrete-time models allows for a more tractable analysis while still capturing significant aspects of ecological systems. In this paper, we mainly study the dynamic properties of a class of three-dimensional SIR models. First, we use the complete discriminant theory of polynomials to obtain the parameter conditions for the topological types of each fixed point. Second, by employing the centre manifold theorem and bifurcation theory, we prove that the system may undergo transcritical, flip and Neimark–Sacker bifurcations at fixed points. The biped robot has two identical legs that undergo alternating stance and swing phases during walking. The robot's motion is facilitated by actuators positioned at the ankle and hip joints. The paper investigates various fault scenarios in dynamic walker models, specifically situations where one or both actuators experience failure while the robot is in motion. The first model assumes faults in both the hip and ankle joints, while the second model assumes a fault only in the ankle joint. The dynamic walker typically undergoes two steps in each cycle. This study specifically examines the different types of faults that may occur during the second step. The goal is to identify the potential walking gaits that can result from these faults. It is observed that walking with faults at both the hip and ankle joints exhibited greater stability and a wider range of stable states compared to walking with a fault only at the ankle joint. This suggests that incorporating hip joint faults or underactuation into robotic or prosthetic gait patterns could improve their stability and overall performance. The local and global stability of the dynamic walker were analyzed using Poincare's method and the basin of attraction plot, respectively. Additionally, a control algorithm based on kinetic energy shaping is proposed for the second model, which resulted in an increased basin of attraction. In this paper, we study the nonlinear stability of a shear layer profile for Navier-- Stokes equations near a boundary. More precisely, we investigate the effect of cubic interactions on the growth of the linear instability. In the case of the exponential profile, we obtain that the nonlinearity tames the linear instability. We thus conjecture that small perturbations grow until they reach a magnitude O(v1/4) only, forming small rolls in the critical layer near the boundary. The paper discusses the nutrient-plankton system with effect of time delay in nutrient recycling and toxin-determined function response (TDFR). The designed model system explores the delay-induced system dynamics. We present the local stability analysis of interior equilibrium points in absence as well as in presence of time delay. Further, the direction of Hopf bifurcation is obtained. We perform the numerical computation and observe that time delay in nutrient recycling can generate the periodic solution in a stable nutrient-plankton system. Some other essential parameters, such as input concentration of nutrients and natural removal rate of nutrients, also regulate the dynamical system. The system shows Hopf and double-Hopf bifurcation in the presence of time delay. Our study shows that the delay in the nutrient recycling causes instability transition phenomenon. The delay-induced nutrient recycling and different input concentrations of nutrients can regulate the estuarine system. Finally, the stability switching is observed for delayed system. In this paper, the dynamical behaviors of a discrete-time fractional-order population model are considered. The stability analysis and the topological classification of the model at the fixed point have been investigated. It is shown that the model undergoes flip and Neimark–Sacker bifurcations around the co-existence fixed point by using the bifurcation and the normal form theory. These bifurcations lead to chaos when the parameter changes at critical point. In order to control chaotic behavior in the model result from Neimark–Sacker bifurcation, the OGY feedback method has been used. Furthermore, some numerical simulations, including bifurcation diagrams, phase portraits and maximum Lyapunov exponents of the presented model are plotted to support the correctness of the analytical results. In the present paper, we investigate the effect of the initial conditions on the dynamics of the spring-block landslide model. The time evolution of the studied model, which is governed by a system of stochastic delay differential equations, is analyzed in the mean-field approximation, which qualitatively exhibits the same dynamics as the initial model. The results of the numerical analysis show that changing the initial conditions has different effects in different parts of the parameter space of the model. Namely, moving away from the fixed-point initial conditions has a stabilizing effect on the dynamics when the noise, the friction parameters a (higher values) and c as well as the spring stiffness k are taken into account. The stabilization manifests itself in a complete suppression of the unstable dynamics or a partial limitation of the effect of some friction parameters. On the other hand, the destabilizing effect of changing the initial conditions occurs for the lower values of the friction parameters a and for b. The main feature of destabilization is the complete suppression of the sliding regime or a larger parameter range with a transient oscillatory regime. This paper considers a density-suppressed motility model with a strong Allee effect under the homogeneous Neumman boundary condition. We first establish the global existence of bounded classical solutions to a parabolic–parabolic system over an |$N $| -dimensional |$\mathbf{(N\le 3)}$| bounded domain |$\varOmega $|⁠ , as well as the global existence of bounded classical solutions to a parabolic–elliptic system over the multidimensional bounded domain |$\varOmega $| with smooth boundary. We then investigate the linear stability at the positive equilibria for the full parabolic case and parabolic–elliptic case, respectively, and find the influence of Allee effect on the local stability of the equilibria. By treating the Allee effect as a bifurcation parameter, we focus on the one-dimensional stationary problem and obtain the existence of non-constant positive steady states, which corresponds to small perturbations from the constant equilibrium |$(1,1)$|⁠. Furthermore, we present some properties through theoretical analysis on pitchfork type and turning direction of the local bifurcations. The stability results provide a stable wave mode selection mechanism for the model considered in this paper. Finally, numerical simulations are performed to demonstrate our theoretical results. Periodic orbit families around asteroids serve as potential trajectories for space probes, mining facilities, and deep space stations. Bifurcations of these families provide additional candidate orbits for efficient trajectory design around asteroids. While various bifurcations of periodic orbit families around asteroids have been extensively studied, period-multiplying bifurcations have received less attention. This paper focuses on studying period-multiplying bifurcations of periodic orbit families around asteroids. In particular, orbits with periods of approximately 7 and 17 times that of the rotational period of asteroid 216 Kleopatra were computed. The computation of high-period orbits provides insights into the numerical aspects of simulating long-duration trajectories around asteroids. The previous literature uses single-shooting and multiple-shooting methods to compute bifurcations of periodic orbit families around asteroids. Computational difficulties were encountered while using the shooting methods to obtain period-multiplying bifurcations of periodic orbit families around asteroids. This work used the Legendre–Gauss collocation method to compute period-multiplying bifurcations around asteroids. This study recommends the use of collocation methods to obtain long-duration orbits around asteroids when computational difficulties are encountered while using shooting methods. In this paper, the synchronous motion characteristics of a two-rigid-body vibration system with three vibrating motors installed on two different vibrating rigid bodies are investigated. First, differential equations of the system are deduced according to the Lagrange equation, and their steady-state solutions are obtained. Next, the synchronization theories of the system are obtained via the average method, and the stability conditions are deduced via the Lyapunov's stability theory. The structural parameters of the system are brought into the theoretical derivation results. Finally, the theory and simulation are mutually verified by the electromechanical coupling simulation model. The results show that the system can implement stable synchronous motion when the system parameters satisfy the synchronization and stability conditions. In the resonance region (i.e., k y 2 = 100000 N / m , k y 1 ∈ [ 100000,2000000 ] N / m or k y 2 = 500000 N / m , k y 1 ∈ [ 100000,2000000 ] N / m ), the support spring stiffnesses k y 1 and k y 2 significantly affect the synchronous motion characteristics of the system. The phase differences 2 α 1 and 2 α 2 bifurcate in the regions R2, R5, and R6. However, the bifurcation phenomena have almost no effect on the steady-state responses. During the operation of a DC microgrid, the nonlinearity and low damping characteristics of the DC bus make it prone to oscillatory instability. In this paper, we first establish a discrete nonlinear system dynamic model of a DC microgrid, study the effects of the converter sag coefficient, input voltage, and load resistance on the microgrid stability, and reveal the oscillation mechanism of a DC microgrid caused by a single source. Then, a DC microgrid stability analysis method based on the combination of bifurcation and strobe is used to analyze how the aforementioned parameters influence the oscillation characteristics of the system. Dielectric elastomers have attracted considerable attention both from academia and industry alike over the last two decades due to their superior mechanical properties. In parallel, research on the mechanical properties of dielectrics has been steadily advancing, including the theoretical, experimental, and numerical aspects. It has been recognized that the electromechanical coupling property of dielectric materials can be utilized to drive deformations in functional devices in a more controllable and intelligent manner. This paper reviews recent advances in the theory of dielectrics, with specific attention focused on the theory proposed by Dorfmann and Ogden. Additionally, we provide examples illustrating the application of this theory to analyze the electromechanical deformations and the associated bifurcations in soft dielectrics. We compared the bifurcations in elastic and dielectric materials and found that only compressive bifurcation modes exist in elastic structures, whereas both compressive and tensile modes coexist in dielectric structures. We summarize two proposed ways to suppress and prevent the tensile bifurcations in dielectric materials. Memristor is a kind of nonlinear resistance with memory function, which is a typical nonlinear circuit component. In this paper, the problem of a simple chaotic circuit based on the memristor was studied. We constructed a new simple circuit of multiple memorizing components, summarized the mathematical model and found seven types of chaotic attractors without reference to classical circuits that substituted memristors for elements in the original circuit. Traditional methods of dynamic analysis are used to analyze the equilibrium point and stability of the system. Furthermore, we analyzed the dynamical behavior with the varying coefficient of the system specifically. In order to reduce the deviation from the actual physical circuit system as much as possible so as to facilitate the follow-up research of scholars, we solved the problem of Hopf bifurcation in this system under the condition of time delay through the use of the canonical form and Hopf bifurcation theory. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that there existed the state transition in seven chaotic attractors of system and the bifurcation was stable when we changed the parameter τ slightly. Seizures are caused by increased neuronal firing activity resulting from reduced inhibitory effect and enhancement of inhibitory modulation to suppress this activity is used as a therapeutic tool. However, recent experiments have shown a counterintuitive phenomenon that inhibitory modulation does not suppress but elicit post-inhibitory rebound (PIR) spike along with seizure to challenge the therapeutic tool. The nonlinear mechanism to avoid the PIR spike can present theoretical guidance to seizure treatment. This paper focuses on identifying credible bifurcations that underlie PIR spike by modulating multiple parameters in multiple theoretical models. The study identifies a codimension-2 bifurcation called saddle--node homoclinic orbit (SNHOB), which is an intersection between saddle node bifurcation on invariant cycle (SNIC) and other two bifurcations. PIR spike cannot be evoked for the SNIC far from the SNHOB but induced for the SNIC close to the SNHOB, which extends the bifurcation condition for PIR spike from the well-known Hopf to SNIC. Especially, in a thalamic neuron model, increases of conductance of T-type Ca2+ (T Ca) channel induce SNIC bifurcation approaching to the SNHOB to elicit PIR spikes, closely matching experimental results of the absence seizure or Parkinson diseases. Such results imply that, when inhibition is employed to relieve absence seizure and Parkinson diseases related to PIR spike, modulating SNIC to get far from the SNHOB to avoid PIR spike is the principle. The study also addresses the complex roles of T Ca current and comprehensive relationships between PIR spike and nonlinear conceptions such as bifurcation types and shapes of threshold curve.
