Abstract

The article discusses the U.S. military's effects-based operations, which describes the practice of predicting effects in the physical and moral dimensions of war. The author's criticism of effects-based thinking at the level of theory and including metaphysical, epistemological and logical is explored. The assumptions that the military fights by including those from philosopher Aristotle, action theory, efficient causation, theology, and potentiation, are discussed.
