The article presents information about the paper "The Problem of Prolonged and Recurrent Industrial Dermatitis," that appeared in a previous issue of the "Journal of the American Medical Association." Recurrence or persistence of occupational dermatitis is usually attributable to incorrect diagnosis, failure to recognize the cause, failure to eliminate the cause, improper treatment, and unrecognized secondary infection, among other factors.

Abstract

The article presents information about the paper "Occupational Dermatoses: Predisposing and Direct Causes," that appeared in a previous issue of the "Journal of the American Medical Association." The anatomical and physiological characteristics of the skin on which the defence against noxious agents depend are sometimes tangible and obvious, sometimes intangible and obscure. Attention to the known factors will allow some predisposed persons to be excluded from certain occupations. The direct causes of dermatitis are very briefly considered.

The article presents information about the paper "Occupational Dermatoses: An Introduction," that appeared in a previous issue of the "Journal of the American Medical Association." Occupational diseases of the skin form the major proportion of all compensated industrial disease. At least 80% result from contact with primary irritant chemicals. Education and preventive measures can reduce the incidence.

Focuses on the efforts of the American Medical Association (AMA) to oppose the Wagner-Murray-Dingell bill, which opposes private enterprise in medical care in the U.S. Information that "The Journal of the American Medical Association" has set the tone for the campaign in its "gauleiter" editorial last summer, which asserted that under the bill the Surgeon General of the United States Public Health Service would become the dictator of American medicine; Statement that the National Physicians' Committee, the main AMA front, has flooded the country with releases, pamphlets and handouts in order to campaign against the bill; Statement that the local medical society in Erie County, New York, has asked each member to pay $25 for the campaign to defeat the Wagner-Murray-Dingell bill.
