This article provides an overview of the events participated by the Interpretation Division at the Speech Communication Association (SCA) Convention that was held in San Francisco, California in December 1971. This column will touch upon some highlights of general interest. Even for those who attended, such a report may be worthwhile, in as much as Legislative Assembly meetings and other convention programs overlapped the Reading Hour and the five programs set up by Leslie Irene Coger, Interpretation Division (ID) Chairman. Following lively discussion of interpretation festivals, contests, and judging, which took up the bulk of time at the two business meetings, ID members voted that a committee be set up to study interpretation events. The ID convention programs ranged from the presentation of critical papers to demonstrations and audience participation. The Reading Hour had its usual wide appeal for the general SCA membership. Well known scholars and young scholars appearing for the first time on a national program made contributions. Debut papers included one about multiple casting in drama and Readers Theatre by Jean G. Congdon, University of Minnesota, a second relating particularly to Kenneth Burke as an interpreter by Mark Stoffel, Indiana State University.
