In China the nominal addresses are common elements in the personal interaction. 老 /lao/, 大/da/ and 小/xiao/, indicators of the age of the people, are used to form titles of professions, posts and social status, which have to do with their special signification in the Chinese culture. On the other hand, they are used, with the kinship names and family names, to denote and connote different interpersonal relations, because they are expressions filled with feelings. This paper explores their semantic and pragmatic characteristics with a presentation of the nominal addresses formed with 老/lao/, 大/da/ and 小/xiao/ and their translation into Spanish in La fortaleza asediada. SPANISH language , *FORTIFICATION , *LEXICOLOGY - Abstract
In this paper we attempt to draw an overview on the evolution of the lexicon of bastionated Fortification from its origins, in the 16th century, until its apogee, during the 18th. To do this, we start from an intermediate point, the second half of the 17th, when the Epítome de la fortificación moderna (1669), written by Zepeda, was published. In that way, we select the specialized vocabulary which is defined in chapter II of the second part of its "Preludios geométricos" with the purpose of comparing and analysing this vocabulary with the lexicon contained in the first treatises of the Fortification in Spanish language, from the final years of the 16th, until the Tratado de fortificación (1772) of Lucuze. SPANISH language , *LINGUISTIC analysis , *IMMIGRANTS , *LINGUISTICS - Abstract
The fact that language allows to build a vision of the world constitutes a common knowledge since it builds signs and shared meanings, a bigger entity: culture. The present paper aims at identifying and analyzing the textual and pragmalinguistic resources that allow the determination of the linguistic prints that mark subjectivities in an emigrated woman. The study takes as a piece of analysis the Cuban writer Lourdes Casal's poem. A methodology is assumed that aims at two perspectives. One that arises from the pragmatic-semantic field and another directed to a totalizing interpretation of the text to embrace the knowledge of this, from their explanation and interpretation. All it within Spaniard's tuitional process like foreign language. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Grammar studies have focused lately on speech instead of on written language, being the latter the most traditional approach. This situation confronts us with the necessity of a new definition for some grammar concepts. This paper proposes a new definition for the concept of sentence so that it can be used for spoken Spanish analysis. Already existing definitions are evaluated and discarded because they do not fit with many normal speech structures. Besides, they usually are confusing regarding syntactic, prosodic and pragmatic features. We propose a new definition only based on grammar and semantic features. Conclusions show that this approach allows the syntactic analysis of speech in a much more accurate way. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The six particles dis–, ex–, abs–, de, des–and desde constitute the relational subsystem of the “movement of separation” with heterogeneous vitality and profitability in Spanish language. This paper analyzes the issue of invariant signification in each of those particles, the senses they develop in preverbal or compositional position and the degree of vitality they show in contemporary speech. From the analysis of the locution gracias a Dios, this article provides a model for the linguistic description of Spanish evaluative expressions according to the objectives that should be considered in an exhaustive study of this kind of modal words. To this end, this paper offers some observations on the categorial characterization of gracias a Dios, the discursive instructions that make up its semantic information and ultimately the pragmatic effects favoured by its meaning. Furthermore, the linguistic study of gracias a Dios can explain relations with other emotive expressions in Spanish that can evaluate a discourse positively, but that offer some differences concerning its distributional properties, its semantic values and the communicative intentions which can be used nowadays. GRAMMAR , *ARTICLE (Grammar) , *SYNTAX (Grammar) , *SEMANTICS , *PRAGMATICS , *SPANISH language - Abstract
This paper focuses on certain grammatical constructions whose interpretation depends on the presence or absence of the article. The concept of grammatical construction it's that of form/meaning pairings (as found in construction-based approaches). Grammatical constructions have meanings that are not necessarily the sum of their parts. Thus, the behaviour of a grammatical word such as articles shows that in grammar syntax, semantic and pragmatics are indissociable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the Spanish language, the "proportional correlation" is expressed by different syntactic forms depending on the type of discourse, the geographic areas, etc. This paper deals with the semantic-linguistic differences --in many cases, very large-- between these particular forms and the varied senses which they acquire in the speech uses. En este trabajo se analizan ocho voces extraídas del Arte para criar seda (1581), de Gonzalo de las Casas, las cuales se encuentran estrechamente ligadas, en un sentido semántico, a dicha fibra natural. Se profundiza en el origen de estas, su significado y su proyección en la historia de la lengua española, para lo cual se complementan los contextos de uso del tratado con otros externos, cercanos y lejanos en el tiempo, así como se recurre a datos relativos a su presencia en los diccionarios del español. This paper focuses on eight words taken from the Arte para criar seda (1581), by Gonzalo de las Casas. They are closely linked to silk in a semantic sense. We study their origins, their meanings, and their projections in the history of the Spanish language. For that purpose, the contexts of use of the treatise are complemented with some other external contexts of use, close and distant in time. Also, we consider their presence in Spanish dictionaries.

This paper presents the development of the SenSem project (BFF2003-06456), which aims at describing and representing the lexical, semantic, and syntactical behaviour of Spanish verbs. Two resources are being developed in the course of this project: a corpus of sentences associated to their syntactic-semantic interpretation, and a lexicon where each verb meaning is linked to a number of annotated examples from the corpus.

Para finalizar, se hacen algunas propuestas sobre cómo debe presentarse la fraseología en lengua materna y se presentan diferentes actividades según el nivel de enseñanza The aim of this paper is to analyze the presence of Phraseology in primary and secondary education levels and to propose a series of activities intended to develop the phraseological competence of native Spanish speakers. After demonstrating the importance of Phraseology as a fundamental part of the linguistic output of a native speaker and defending the existence of this phraseological competence also in L1, we analyze the relationships between Phraseology and other linguistic and non-linguistic competences included in the curriculum of primary and secondary education, such as the lexical competence, the sociolinguistic competence and the pragmatic competence. It is also showed the important role it can play in focusing specific subjects from a transversal perspective (Phraseology and culture). Finally, we make some remarks on how Phraseology should be taught in mother tongue and we propose different activities according to the level of education
