The article provides updates on travel medicine concerning schistosoma in Sub-Saharan Africa. Lake Malawi, Lake Victoria and the Volta river and estuary are infected with schistosoma, which have different constellations of pathology. The commonest being S. mansoni, which affects the large intestine and S. haematobium, which causes urogenital tract involvement. Travelers insisting to swim in the lake are advised to use 50 percent N, N-diethyl-3- methylbenzamide (DEET) after showering.
