In this paper, we study the M5-brane configurations in AdS4 x Q1.1.1 spacetime. We consider the configurations with an AdS2 factor embedding into AdS4 and manage to construct two solutions, which could be dual to line defects in the boundary gauge theory. Moreover, we discuss their Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) nature and find that neither of them is supersymmetric. We show that the M5-brane with an Rt or an AdS3 factor found previously is half-BPS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents a potential algorithm based on continuation power flow (CPFLOW) to compute all the Type-i load-flow solutions. "type-1 solutions are of a single positive real-part eigenvalue associated with Jacobian of load-flow equations and are used in conjunction with techniques such as energy methods and the voltage instability proximity index (VIPI) for assessing system voltage stability. The benefits of the proposed algorithm are the following. The algorithm has the potential to find all the Type-1 load-flow solutions by tracing a small number of homotopy curves. Traditional methods, which can locate some of the type-1 solutions, suffer from the uncertainty that there might be another Type-1 solution that might be more suitable for voltage stability assessment. This uncertainty is eliminated if all the Type-1 solutions are located. The proposed algorithm has been tested for two example systems, and encouraging results have been obtained. By using the effective field theory approach, we investigate the role of initial conditions for the dark energy or modified gravity models. In detail, we consider the constant and linear parametrization of the effective Newton constant models. First, under the adiabatic assumption, the correction from the extra scalar degree of freedom in the beyond ΛCDM model is found to be negligible. The dominant ingredient in this setup is the primordial curvature perturbation originated from the inflation mechanism, and the energy budget of the matter components is not very crucial. Second, the isocurvature perturbation sourced by the extra scalar field is studied. For the constant and linear models of the effective Newton constant, no such kind of scalar mode exists. For the quadratic model, there is a nontrivial one. However, the amplitude of the scalar field is damped away very fast on all scales. Consequently, it could not support a reasonable structure formation. Finally, we study the importance of the setup of the scalar field starting time. By setting different turn-on times, namely, a=10-2 and a=10-7, we compare the cosmic microwave background radiation temperature, lensing deflection angle autocorrelation function, and the matter power spectrum in the constant and linear models. We find there is an order of Ϭ(1%) difference in the observable spectra for constant model, while for the linear model, it is smaller than Ϭ(0.1%). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We prove the existence of (one-way) communication tasks with a subconstant versus superconstant asymptotic gap, which we call "doubly infinite," between their quantum information and communication complexities. We do so by studying the exclusion game [C. Perry et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 115, 030504 (2015)] for which there exist instances where the quantum information complexity tends to zero as the size of the input n increases. By showing that the quantum communication complexity of these games scales at least logarithmically in n, we obtain our result. We further show that the established lower bounds and gaps still hold even if we allow a small probability of error. However in this case, the n-qubit quantum message of the zero-error strategy can be compressed polynomially. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the framework of the littlest Higgs model with T parity, we study the WH-pair production at the CERN Large Hadron Collider up to the QCD next-to-leading order (NLO). The kinematic distributions of final decay products and the theoretical dependence of the cross section on the factorization/renormal-ization scale are analyzed. We adopt the PROSPINO scheme in the QCD NLO calculations to avoid double counting and keep the convergence of the perturbative QCD description. Our numerical results show that the QCD NLO corrections significantly reduce the scale uncertainty, and enhance the leading order integrated cross section with a K factor in the range of 1.10-1.22 (1.09-1.17) with the symmetry breaking scale / varying from 400 GeV (400 GeV) to 1.5 TeV (1.0 TeV) at the 14 TeV (8 TeV) LHC. We find that it is possible to select the signal events of the WH-pedr production from the pp → W+W- →e+μ−νev̄μ + X background with a high ratio of signature over background by taking proper lower limits on transverse momenta, invariant mass of the final charged leptons and the missing transverse momentum. The gravitational wave (GW) as a standard siren directly determines the luminosity distance from the gravitational waveform without reference to the specific cosmological model, of which the redshift can be obtained separately by means of the electromagnetic counterpart like GW events from binary neutron stars and massive black hole binaries (MBHBs). To see to what extent the standard siren can reproduce the presumed dipole anisotropy written in the simulated data of standard siren events from typical configurations of GW detectors, we find that (1) for the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna with different MBHB models during five-year observations, the cosmic isotropy can be ruled out at 3σconfidence level (C.L.) and the dipole direction can be constrained roughly around 20% at 2σ C.L., as long as the dipole amplitude is larger than 0.04, 0.06 and 0.03 for MBHB models Q3d, pop III and Q3nod with increasing constraining ability, respectively; (2) for the Einstein telescope with no less than 200 standard siren events, the cosmic isotropy can be ruled out at 3σ C.L. if the dipole amplitude is larger than 0.06, and the dipole direction can be constrained within 20% at 3σ C.L. if the dipole amplitude is near 0.1; (3) for the Deci-Hertz Interferometer Gravitational wave Observatory with no less than 100 standard siren events, the cosmic isotropy can be ruled out at 3σ C.L. for dipole amplitude larger than 0.03, and the dipole direction can even be constrained within 10% at 3σ C.L. if the dipole amplitude is larger than 0.07. The scattering properties of the PT-symmetric dielectric dual nanosphere structure are investigated through scattering matrix formalism. We calculate the extinction, scattering, and absorption cross sections of the PT-symmetric scatterer illuminated by the monochromatic linearly polarized plane wave with different incident direction. When the size parameter of distance between the dielectric spheres' centers is small, the PT scatterer is in the unbroken phase due to strong interaction between the active and dissipated spheres. The extinction cross section of the PT scatterer is always the same when the plane wave is incident from opposite directions with the same polarization. It implies that the light transmission is reciprocal whether the PT scatterer is in the broken or unbroken phase, because the PT scatterer is a linear optical scattering system for which the Lorentz reciprocity holds. However, the scattering cross section is different when the plane wave is incident from the loss and gain regions, respectively, and the scattering asymmetry is large when the interaction between active and dissipated spheres is strong. In addition, we find that the absorption cross section of the scattering structure is always negative in the broken phase due to the dominated light scattering of the active sphere.
