We analyze JWST MIRI/MRS observations of the infrared PAH bands in the nuclear and circumnuclear regions of local AGN from the GATOS Survey. In this work, we examine the PAH properties in the circumnuclear regions of AGN and AGN-outflows, and compare them to those in star-forming regions and the innermost regions of AGN. This study employs 4.9-28.1 micron sub-arcsecond angular resolution data to investigate the properties of PAH in three nearby sources (DL~30-40 Mpc). Our findings align with previous JWST studies, showing that the central regions of AGN show a larger fraction of neutral PAH molecules (i.e. elevated 11.3/6.2 and 11.3/7.7 PAH ratios) compared to star-forming galaxies. We find that the AGN might affect not only the PAH population in the innermost region but also in the extended regions up to ~kpc scales. By comparing our observations to PAH diagnostic diagrams, we find that, in general, regions located in the projected direction of the AGN-outflow occupy similar positions on the PAH diagnostic diagrams as those of the innermost regions of AGN. Star-forming regions that are not affected by the AGN in these galaxies share the same part of the diagram as Star-forming galaxies. We examine the potential of the PAH-H2 diagram to disentangle AGN versus star-forming activity. Our results suggest that in Sy-like AGN, illumination and feedback from the AGN might affect the PAH population at nuclear and kpc scales, in particular, the ionization state of the PAH grains. However, PAH sizes are rather similar. The carriers of the ionized PAH bands (6.2 and 7.7 micron) are less resilience than those of neutral PAH bands (11.3 micron), which might be particularly important for strongly AGN-host coupled systems. Therefore, caution must be applied when using PAH bands as star-formation rate indicators in these systems even at kpc scales, with the ionized ones being more affected by the AGN., Comment: Accepted for publication in A&A. 21 pages, 13 Figures

Examining the $\phi^{4n}$ and $\phi^{8n}$ models within a two-dimensional framework in flat spacetime and embracing a theory with unconventional kinetic terms, one investigates the emergence of compactified double kinks/antikinks. We restrict our study to field configurations with minimal energy profiles, i.e., fields with Bogomolnyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) properties. To accomplish our goal, we adopt non-polynomial functions as generalizing terms, namely, hyperbolic sine and cosine functions. These functions manifest potential minima at $\phi=0$ in the BPS bound, facilitating the emergence of double-kinks (and double-antikinks). Moreover, as these functions are modified, the double kinks/antikinks may acquire profiles similar to configurations of fields resembling double compactons/anti-compactons., Comment: 20 pages, 14 captioned figures

We present observations of the type-2 Seyfert NGC7172 obtained with the medium-resolution spectrometer (MRS) of the Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI) on board of the JWST. This galaxy hosts one of the lowest ionised gas mass outflow rates (Mout~0.005 M/yr) in a sample of six AGN with similar bolometric luminosities (log Lbol~44erg/s) within the Galactic Activity, Torus and Outflow Survey (GATOS). We aim to understand the properties of the ionised gas outflow, mainly using the emission lines from the neon transitions, that cover a broad range of ionisation potentials (IP) from ~20 eV to ~130 eV. We applied parametric and non-parametric methods to characterise the line emission and kinematics. The low excitation lines (IP<25eV, e.g.[NeII]) trace the rotating disc emission. The high excitation lines (IP>90eV, e.g.[NeV]), which are likely photoionised exclusively by the AGN, are expanding in the direction nearly perpendicular to the disc of the galaxy, with maximum projected velocities of ~350-500 km/s. In particular, [NeV] and [NeVI] lines reveal a biconical ionised gas outflow emerging N-S from the nuclear region, extending at least ~2.5"N and 3.8"S (projected distance of ~450 and 680 pc). Most of the emission arising in the northern part of the cone was not previously detected due to obscuration. Given the almost face-on orientation of the outflow and the almost edge-on orientation of the galaxy, NGC7172 may be a case of weak coupling. Nevertheless, we found evidence for positive feedback in two distinct outflowing clumps at projected distances of 3.1" and 4.3" (i.e. ~560 and 780 pc) SW from the AGN. We estimated a star formation rate in these regions using the [NeII] and [NeIII] luminosities of 0.08 M/yr, that is ~10% of that found in the circumnuclear ring. Revisiting Einstein's gravitational theory, we build a five-dimensional braneworld. Within this framework, one announces the appearance of symmetric and asymmetric domain walls. Furthermore, it examines the emergent four-dimensional gravity from a theory with non-canonical dynamics. Exploring the physical and mathematical aspects, e.g., brane's energy density and the Kaluza-Klein (KK) spectrum, one verifies that brane splitting is absent in the canonical and non-canonical theories. Additionally, we note the localization of the four-dimensional fluctuation projection on the 3-branes, which ensures the theory's stability. Thereby, one can conclude that the behavior of gravitational perturbations of the domain wall maintains a profile similar to a stable and non-localizable tower of massive modes. In contrast, within the brane core, the matter sector generates new barriers and potential wells, resulting in massive modes with approximately symmetric amplitudes. The jets of radio AGN provide one of the most important forms of AGN feedback, yet considerable uncertainties remain about how they are triggered. Since the molecular gas reservoirs of the host galaxies can supply key information about the dominant triggering mechanism(s), here we present Atacama Large Millimeter/sub-millimeter Array (ALMA) CO(1-0) observations of a complete sample of 29 powerful radio AGN ($P_{1.4GHz} > 10^{25}$ W Hz$^{-1}$ and $0.05 < z < 0.3$) with an angular resolution of about 2 - 3 arcsec (corresponding to 2 - 8 kpc). We detect molecular gas with masses in the range $10^{8.9} < M_{H_2} < 10^{10.2}$ M$_{\odot}$ in the early-type host galaxies of 10 targets, while for the other 19 sources we derive upper limits. The detection rate of objects with such large molecular masses -- $34\pm9$% -- is higher than in the general population of non-active early-type galaxies (ETG: $<$10%). The kinematics of the molecular gas are dominated in most cases by rotating disk-like structures, with diameters up to 25 kpc. Compared with the results for samples of quiescent ETG in the literature, we find a larger fraction of more massive, more extended and less settled molecular gas structures. In most of the CO-detected sources, the results are consistent with triggering of the AGN as the gas settles following a merger or close encounter with a gas-rich companion. However, in a minority of objects at the centres of rich clusters of galaxies, the accretion of gas cooling from the hot X-ray halos is a plausible alternative to galaxy interactions as a triggering mechanisms., Comment: 25 pages, 10 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS

The ionisation cones of NGC5728 have a deficit of molecular gas based on millimetre observations of CO(2-1) emission. Although photoionisation from the active nucleus may lead to suppression of this transition, warm molecular gas can still be present. We report the detection of eight mid-infrared rotational H$_2$ lines throughout the central kiloparsec, including the ionisation cones, using integral field spectroscopic observations with JWST/MIRI MRS. The H$_2$ line ratios, characteristic of a power-law temperature distribution, indicate that the gas is warmest where it enters the ionisation cone through disk rotation, suggestive of shock excitation. In the nucleus, where the data can be combined with an additional seven ro-vibrational H$_2$ transitions, we find that moderate velocity (30 km s$^{-1}$) shocks in dense ($10^5$ cm$^{-3}$) gas, irradiated by an external UV field ($G_0 = 10^3$), do provide a good match to the full set. The warm molecular gas in the ionisation cone that is traced by the H$_2$ rotational lines has been heated to temperatures $>200$ K. Outside of the ionisation cone the molecular gas kinematics are undisturbed. However, within the ionisation cone, the kinematics are substantially perturbed, indicative of a radial flow, but one that is quantitatively different from the ionised lines. We argue that this outflow is in the plane of the disk, implying a short 50 pc acceleration zone up to speeds of about 400 km s$^{-1}$ followed by an extended deceleration over $\sim$700 pc where it terminates. The deceleration is due to both the radially increasing galaxy mass, and mass-loading as ambient gas in the disk is swept up., Comment: A&A accepted; 16 pages

We use a sample of 64 nearby (D=7-45 Mpc) disk galaxies including 45 AGN and 19 non-AGN, that have high spatial resolution multiline CO observations obtained with the ALMA and/or PdBI arrays to study the distribution of cold molecular gas in their circumunuclear disks (CND). We analyze whether the concentration of cold molecular gas changes as a function of the X-ray luminosity in the 2-10 keV range ($L_{\rm X}$). We also study the concentration of the hot molecular gas using NIR data obtained for the H2 1-0S(1) line. We find a turnover in the distribution of the cold molecular gas concentration as a function of $L_{\rm X}$ with a breakpoint which divides the sample into two branches: the AGN build-up branch ($L_{\rm X}\leq10^{41.5\pm0.3}$erg/s) and the AGN feedback branch ($L_{\rm X}\geq10^{41.5\pm0.3}$erg/s) . Lower luminosity AGN and non-AGN of the AGN build-up branch show high cold molecular gas concentrations and centrally peaked radial profiles on nuclear ($r\leq50$~pc) scales. Higher luminosity AGN of the AGN feedback branch, show a sharp decrease in the concentration of molecular gas and flat or inverted radial profiles. The cold molecular gas concentration index ($CCI$), defined as the ratio of surface densities at $r\leq50$~pc and $r\leq200$~pc , namely $CCI \equiv$~log$_{\rm 10}(\Sigma^{\rm gas}_{\rm 50}/\Sigma^{\rm gas}_{\rm 200}$), spans a factor ~4-5 between the galaxies lying at the high end of the AGN build-up branch and the galaxies of the AGN feedback branch. The concentration and radial distributions of the hot molecular gas in our sample follow less extreme trends as a function of the X-ray luminosity. Revisiting the issue associated with Position-Dependent Mass (PDM), we reaffirm that the appropriate framework for addressing a generic PDM is the symmetrization proposed by BenDaniel and Duke. To accomplish this result adopts the effective mass Hamiltonian proposed by von Roos, corrected by a symmetrized kinematic term. After verifying the appropriate ordering to approach the PDM issue, one investigates a crystalline lattice with a defect described by a singular PDM. The singular mass profile proves intriguing as it yields an atom's cluster in the neighborhood of the singularity. Considering that a restoring force acts on the atoms, one notes that the confluent Heun function describes the quantum states. Spectral energy distribution (SED) fitting is one of most commonly used techniques to study the dust properties in Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN). Works implementing this technique commonly use radiative transfer models that assume a variety of dust properties. Despite the key role of this aspect, limited effort has been put forward to explore the chemical composition, the role of different optical properties, and the grain size distribution of dust, all of which can have a substantial impact on the theoretical radiative transfer calculations. In this work, we explore the role of the dust chemical composition in the AGN dusty torus through SED fitting to \emph{Spitzer}/IRS spectra of a sample of 49 nearby AGN with silicate features in emission. We implement a mineralogy model including the popular astronomical silicates and a set of oxides and amorphous silicates with different grain sizes. We find that best fits use principally porous alumina, periclase, and olivine. In terms of mass fractions, $\sim99\%$ of the dust is composed of dust grains of size $\rm{0.1 \mu m}$, with a $<1\%$ contribution from $\rm{3 \mu m}$ grains. Moreover, the astronomical silicates have a very low occurrence in the best fits, suggesting that they are not the most suited dust species to reproduce the silicate features in our sample., Comment: 16 pages, 13 figures, Accepted by MNRAS

We study a generalized $\phi^4$ model that gives rise to BPS kink/antikink configurations with compacton-like profiles. One observes that the positive parameter controlling the generalizing function promotes an infinity degenerescence of the BPS solutions. We then use the Differential Configurational Complexity technique to distinguish the degenerate configurations, which allows us to obtain the parameter values providing the most likely field profiles. Besides, the analysis of the excitation spectrum of the model shows the existence of translational and vibrational modes. Thus, the emergence of bound states of solitons (bions) and resonance phenomena is guaranteed when analyzing the scattering of kink/antikink structures. Considering the relativistic scenario, we dedicate our study to the relativistic quantum description of one-dimensional Majorana fermions. Thus, we focus on aspects related to exciton-like particles. Seeking to reach our purpose, one analyzes the relativistic quantum mechanical system characterized by an effective mass distribution. In this context, we adopt an exciton-like position-dependent mass without impurity, i.e., without electromagnetic interactions. From this perspective, one notes results of noteworthy interest as consequences of the theory adopted. For instance, we highlight that, even without interaction, exciton-like Majorana fermions manifest theoretically bound states. Also, we construct a Majorana fermion ensemble with effective mass immersed in a thermal reservoir. That allows for a thorough investigation of the thermodynamic properties of the system. Among the thermodynamic characteristics studied in the canonical ensemble, we focus on the Helmholtz free energy, mean energy, entropy, and heat capacity. PDS 456 is the most luminous RQQ at z<0.3 and can be regarded as a local counterpart of the powerful QSOs shining at Cosmic Noon. It hosts a strong nuclear X-ray ultra-fast outflow, and a massive and clumpy CO(3-2) molecular outflow extending up to 5 kpc from the nucleus. We analyzed the first MUSE WFM and AO-NFM optical integral field spectroscopic observations of PDS456. The AO-NFM observations provide an unprecedented spatial resolution, reaching up to 280 pc. Our findings reveal a complex circumgalactic medium around PDS 456, extending up to a maximum projected size of ~46 kpc. This includes a reservoir of gas with a mass of ~1e7-1e8 Modot, along with eight companion galaxies, and a multi-phase outflow. WFM and NFM MUSE data reveal an outflow on a large scale (~12 kpc from the quasar) in [OIII], and on smaller scales (within 3 kpc) with higher resolution (about 280 pc) in Halpha, respectively. The [OIII] outflow mass rate is 2.3 +/- 0.2 Modot/yr which is significantly lower than those typically found in other luminous quasars. Remarkably, the Ha outflow shows a similar scale, morphology, and kinematics to the CO(3-2) molecular outflow, with the latter dominating in terms of kinetic energy and mass outflow rate by two and one orders of magnitude, respectively. Our results therefore indicate that mergers, powerful AGN activity, and feedback through AGN-driven winds will collectively contribute to shaping the host galaxy evolution of PDS 456, and likely, that of similar objects at the brightest end of the AGN luminosity function across all redshifts. Einstenian cubic gravity (ECG) is a modified theory of gravity constructed with cubic contractions of the curvature tensor. This theory has the remarkable feature of having the same two propagating degrees of freedom of Einstein gravity (EG), at the perturbative level on maximally symmetric spacetimes. The additional unstable modes steaming from the higher order derivative dynamics are suppressed provided that we consider the ECG as an effective field theory wherein the cubic terms are seen as perturbative corrections of the Einstein-Hilbert term. Extensions of ECG have been proposed in cosmology and compact objects in order to probe if this property holds in more general configurations. In this work, we construct a modified ECG gravity in a five dimensional warped braneworld scenario. By assuming a specific combination of the cubic parameters, we obtained modified gravity equations of motion with terms up to second-order. For a thin 3-brane, the cubic-gravity corrections yield an effective positive bulk cosmological constant. Thus, in order to keep the 5D bulk warped compact, an upper bound of the cubic parameter with respect to the bulk curvature was imposed. For a thick brane, the cubic-gravity terms modify the scalar field potential and its corresponding vacuum. Nonetheless, the domain-wall structure with a localized source is preserved. At the perturbative level, the Kaluza-Klein (KK) tensor gravitational modes are stable and possess a localized massless mode provided the cubic corrections are small compared to the EG braneworld.

We present MEGARA (Multi-Espectr\'ografo en GTC de Alta Resoluci\'on para Astronom\'ia) Integral Field Unit (IFU) observations of 5 local type-2 quasars (QSO2s, z $\sim 0.1$) from the Quasar Feedback (QSOFEED) sample. These active galactic nuclei (AGN) have bolometric luminosities of 10$^{45.5-46}$ erg/s and stellar masses of $\sim$10$^{11}$ M$_{\odot}$. We explore the kinematics of the ionized gas through the [O~III]$\lambda$5007 $\r{A}$ emission line. The nuclear spectra of the 5 QSO2s, extracted in a circular aperture of $\sim$ 1.2" ($\sim$ 2.2 kpc) in diameter, show signatures of high velocity winds in the form of broad (full width at half maximum; 1300$\leq$FWHM$\leq$2240 km/s and blueshifted components. We find that 4 out of the 5 QSO2s present outflows that we can resolve with our seeing-limited data, and they have radii ranging from 3.1 to 12.6 kpc. In the case of the two QSO2s with extended radio emission, we find that it is well-aligned with the outflows, suggesting that low-power jets might be compressing and accelerating the ionized gas in these radio-quiet QSO2s. In the four QSO2s with spatially resolved outflows, we measure ionized mass outflow rates of 3.3-6.5 Msun/yr when we use [S~II]-based densities, and of 0.7-1.6 Msun/yr when trans-auroral line-based densities are considered instead. We compare them with the corresponding molecular mass outflow rates (8 - 16 Msun/yr), derived from CO(2-1) ALMA observations at 0.2" resolution. Both phases show lower outflow mass rates than those expected from observational scaling relations where uniform assumptions on the outflow properties were adopted. This might be indicating that the AGN luminosity is not the only driver of massive outflows and/or that these relations need to be re-scaled using accurate outflow properties. In this work, the influence of the boundary term $B$ is analyzed in a string-like thick brane scenario in the gravity context $f(T, B)$. For that, three models of $f(T, B)$ are proposed, i.e., $f_1(T, B)=T+k{B}^{n}$, $f_2(T, B)=T+k(-T+B)^{n}$ and $f_3(T, B)=T+k_1T^2+k_2{B}^2$, where $n$, $k$ and $k_{1,2}$ are parameters that control the deviation from the usual teleparallelism. The first relevant result obtained was the appearance of a super-located tower in the core for energy density. Furthermore, the greater the influence of the boundary term, the new maximums and minimums appear in the energy density. All this indicates the emergence of capable structures from split to the brane. The second relevant result was obtained by analyzing the gravitational perturbations, where the effective potential presents the supersymmetric form of quantum mechanics, leading to well-localized massless modes., Comment: 18 pages, 7 captioned figures

We use JWST/MIRI MRS spectroscopy of a sample of six local obscured type 1.9/2 active galactic nuclei (AGN) to compare their nuclear mid-IR absorption bands with the level of nuclear obscuration traced by X-rays. This study is the first to use sub-arcsecond angular resolution data of local obscured AGN to investigate the nuclear mid-IR absorption bands with a wide wavelength coverage (4.9-28.1 $\mu$m). All the nuclei show the 9.7 $\mu$m silicate band in absorption. We compare the strength of the 9.7 and 18 $\mu$m silicate features with torus model predictions. The observed silicate features are generally well explained by clumpy and smooth torus models. We report the detection of the 6 $\mu$m dirty water ice band (i.e., a mix of water and other molecules such as CO and CO$_2$) at sub-arcsecond scales ($\sim$0.26 arcsec at 6 $\mu$m; inner $\sim$50 pc) in a sample of local AGN with different levels of nuclear obscuration in the range log N$_{\rm H}^{\rm X-Ray}$(cm$^{-2}$)$\sim22-25$. We find a good correlation between the 6 $\mu$m water ice optical depths and N$_{\rm H}^{\rm X-Ray}$. This result indicates that the water ice absorption might be a reliable tracer of the nuclear intrinsic obscuration in AGN. The weak water ice absorption in less obscured AGN (log N$_H^{X-ray}$ (cm$^{-2}$)$\lesssim$23.0 cm$^{-2}$) might be related to the hotter dust temperature ($>$T$_{sub}^{H_2O}\sim$110 K) expected to be reached in the outer layers of the torus due to their more inhomogeneous medium. Our results suggest it might be necessary to include the molecular content, such as, H$_2$O, aliphatic hydrocarbons (CH-) and more complex PAH molecules in torus models to better constrain key parameters such as the torus covering factor (i.e. nuclear obscuration)., Comment: Accepted for publication in A&A. 13 pages, 12 Figures

We investigate the effects of the curved geometry on a massless relativistic electron constrained to a graphene strip with a Moebius strip shape. The anisotropic and parity-violating geometry of the Moebius band produces a geometric potential that inherits these features. By considering wires along the strip width and the strip length, we find exact solutions for the Dirac equation and the effects of the geometric potential on the electron were explored. In both cases, the geometric potential yields to a geometric phase on the wave function. Along the strip width, the density of states depends on the direction chosen for the wire, a consequence of the lack of axial symmetry. Moreover, the breaking of the parity symmetry enables the electronic states to be concentrated on the inner or on the outer portion of the strip. For wires along the strip length, the nontrivial topology influences the eigenfunctions by modifying their periodicity. It turns out that the ground state has a period of $4\pi$ whereas the first excited state is a $2\pi$ periodic function. We present a detailed study of the kinematics of 19 QSO2s in the range 0.3 10^{8.5}$L$_{\odot}$. We aim at advancing our understanding of the AGN feedback phenomenon by correlating outflow properties with the presence of young stellar populations (YSPs) with ages <100 Myr, the optical morphology and the environment of the galaxies, and the radio luminosity. We characterize the ionized gas kinematics using the [OIII]$\lambda$5007$\r{A}$ profiles, through three different outflow detection methods: multi-component parametric and flux-weighted and peak-weighted non-parametric. We detect ionized outflows in 18 QSO2s using the parametric analysis, and in all of them using the non-parametric methods. We find higher outflow masses using the parametric analysis (log M$_{OF}$(M$_{\odot}$)=6.47$\pm$0.50), and larger mass rates and kinetic powers with the flux-weighted non-parametric method (\.M$_{OF}$=4.0$\pm$4.4 M$_{\odot}$ yr$^{-1}$ and log(\.E$_{kin}$)=41.9$\pm$0.6 erg~s$^{-1}$). However, it is when we use the parametric method and the maximum outflow velocities that we measure the highest outflow mass rates and kinetic energies (23$\pm$35 M$_{\odot}$ yr$^{-1}$ and 42.9$\pm$0.6 erg s$^{-1}$). We do not find any significant correlation between the outflow properties and the previously mentioned galaxy properties. 4 out of 5 QSO2s without a YS<100 Myr show highly disturbed kinematics, whereas only 5 out of the 14 QSO2s with YSPs show similarly asymmetric [OIII] profiles. This might be indicative of negative feedback. The lack of correlation between the outflow properties and the presence of mergers in different interaction stages might be due to their different dynamical timescales. Lastly, the small radio luminosity range covered by our sample may be impeding the detection of any correlation between radio emission and outflow properties., Comment: 26 pages, 9 figures. The $z$~0.1 type-2 QSO J1430+1339 (the 'Teacup') is a complex galaxy showing a loop of ionised gas ~10 kpc in diameter, co-spatial radio bubbles, a compact (~1 kpc) jet, and outflow activity. We used VLT/MUSE optical integral field spectroscopic observations to characterise the properties and effects of the galactic ionised outflow from kpc up to tens of kpc scales and compare them with those of the radio jet. We detect a velocity dispersion enhancement (>300 km/s) elongated over several kpc perpendicular to the radio jet, the AGN ionisation lobes, and the fast outflow, similar to what is found in other galaxies hosting compact, low-power jets, indicating that the jet strongly perturbs the host ISM. The mass outflow rate decreases with distance from the nucleus, from around 100 $M_\odot$/yr in the inner 1-2 kpc to <0.1 $M_\odot$/yr at 30 kpc. The ionised mass outflow rate is ~1-8 times higher than the molecular one, in contrast with what is often quoted in AGN. The driver of the multi-phase outflow is likely a combination of AGN radiation and the jet. The outflow mass-loading factor (~5-10) and the molecular gas depletion time (<10$^8$ yr) indicate that the outflow can significantly affect the star formation and the gas reservoir in the galaxy. However, the fraction of the ionised outflow that is able to escape the dark matter halo potential is likely negligible. We detect blue-coloured continuum emission co-spatial with the ionised gas loop. Here, stellar populations are younger (<100-150 Myr) than in the rest of the galaxy (~0.5-1 Gyr). This constitutes possible evidence for star formation triggered at the edge of the bubble due to the compressing action of the jet and outflow ('positive feedback'), as predicted by theory. Adopting the premise that the expected value of the quantum fluctuating metric is linear, i.e., $\langle g^{\mu\nu}\rangle=\alpha g^{\mu\nu}$, we analyze the modified gravity theory induced by the Einstein-Hilbert action coupled to a matter field. This approach engenders the $f(R,T)$ gravity used to investigate the braneworld. In this scenario, considering a thick brane, the influence of metric fluctuations on brane dynamics is investigated. Consequently, one shows how the metric fluctuations influence the vacuum states. This influence has repercussions for modifying the brane energy and the asymptotic profile of the matter field. After noticing these modifications, we analyzed the most likely and stable structures from the matter field. Observed scaling relations in galaxies between baryons and dark matter global properties are key to shed light on the process of galaxy formation and on the nature of dark matter. Here, we study the scaling relation between the neutral hydrogen (HI) and dark matter mass in isolated rotationally-supported disk galaxies at low redshift. We first show that state-of-the-art galaxy formation simulations predict that the HI-to-dark halo mass ratio decreases with stellar mass for the most massive disk galaxies. We then infer dark matter halo masses from high-quality rotation curve data for isolated disk galaxies in the local Universe, and report on the actual universality of the HI-to-dark halo mass ratio for these observed galaxies. This scaling relation holds for disks spanning a range of 4 orders of magnitude in stellar mass and 3 orders of magnitude in surface brightness. Accounting for the diversity of rotation curve shapes in our observational fits decreases the scatter of the HI-to-dark halo mass ratio while keeping it constant. This finding extends the previously reported discrepancy for the stellar-to-halo mass relation of massive disk galaxies within galaxy formation simulations to the realm of neutral atomic gas. Our result reveals that isolated galaxies with regularly rotating extended HI disks are surprisingly self-similar up to high masses, which hints at mass-independent self-regulation mechanisms that have yet to be fully understood., Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures. We present new ALMA observations of the CO(3-2) transition and 854micron continuum at 0.06-0.3" resolution, together with new VLT/SINFONI observations of NGC7172. This is a luminous (bolometric luminosity of ~10^44 erg/s) Seyfert galaxy that belongs to the Galaxy Activity, Torus, and Outflow Survey (GATOS). The CO(3-2) observations reveal the presence of a highly inclined cold molecular gas ring with an approximate radius of 3-4"~540-720 pc, which is likely associated with an inner Lindblad resonance of a putative stellar bar. There are noncircular motions in the VLT/SINFONI [SiVI]1.96micron and H2 at 2.12micron, and ALMA CO(3-2) velocity fields. After subtracting the stellar velocity field, we detected [SiVI] blueshifted velocities of a few hundred km/s to the south of the AGN. They trace outflowing ionized gas outside the plane of the galaxy and out to projected distances of ~200 pc. The CO(3-2) position-velocity diagram along the kinematic minor axis displays noncircular motions with observed velocities of up to ~150 km/s. Assuming that these are taking place in the disk of the galaxy, the observed velocity signs imply that the molecular gas ring is not only rotating but also outflowing. We derived an integrated cold molecular gas mass outflow rate of ~40 Msun/yr for the ring. Using the 854micron map, we resolved a 32 pc radius torus with a gas mass of 8x10^5 Msun. These torus properties are similar to other Seyfert galaxies in the GATOS sample. We measured a decreased cold molecular gas concentration in the nuclear-torus region relative to the circumnuclear region when compared to other less luminous Seyfert galaxies. We conclude that the effects of AGN feedback in NGC7172, which are likely caused by the AGN wind and/or the moderate luminosity radio jet, are seen as a large-scale outflowing molecular gas ring and accompanying redistribution of molecular gas in the nuclear regions., Comment: Accepted for publication to A&A

We present a spatially-resolved study of the ionised gas in the central 2 kpc of the Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 2110 and investigate the role of its moderate luminosity radio jet (kinetic radio power of $P_\mathrm{jet} = 2.3 \times 10^{43}\mathrm{erg\ s^{-1}}$). We use new optical integral-field observations taken with the MEGARA spectrograph at GTC. We fit the emission lines with a maximum of two Gaussian components, except at the AGN position where we used three. Aided by existing stellar kinematics, we use the observed velocity and velocity dispersion of the emission lines to classify the different kinematic components. The disc component is characterised by lines with $\sigma \sim 60-200\ \mathrm{km\ s^{-1}}$. The outflow component has typical values of $\sigma \sim 700\ \mathrm{km\ s^{-1}}$ and is confined to the central 400 pc, which is coincident with linear part of the radio jet detected in NGC 2110. At the AGN position, the [O III]$\lambda$5007 line shows high velocity components reaching at least $1000\ \mathrm{km\ s^{-1}}$. This and the high velocity dispersions indicate the presence of outflowing gas outside the galaxy plane. Spatially-resolved diagnostic diagrams reveal mostly LI(N)ER-like excitation in the outflow and some regions in the disc, which could be due to the presence of shocks. However, there is also Seyfert-like excitation beyond the bending of the radio jet, probably tracing the edge of the ionisation cone that intercepts with the disc of the galaxy. NGC 2110 follows well the observational trends between the outflow properties and the jet radio power found for a few nearby Seyfert galaxies. All these pieces of information suggest that part of observed ionised outflow in NGC 2110 might be driven by the radio jet. However, the radio jet was bent at radial distances of 200 pc (in projection) from the AGN, and beyond there, most of the gas in the galaxy disc is rotating., Comment: 25 pages, 22 figures, 3 tables. The triggering mechanism for the most luminous, quasar-like active galactic nuclei (AGN) remains a source of debate, with some studies favouring triggering via galaxy mergers, but others finding little evidence to support this mechanism. Here, we present deep Isaac Newton Telescope/Wide Field Camera imaging observations of a complete sample of 48 optically-selected type 2 quasars $-$ the QSOFEED sample (L$_{\rm [OIII]}>$10$^{8.5}$$L_{\odot}$; $z < 0.14$). Based on visual inspection by eight classifiers, we find clear evidence that galaxy interactions are the dominant triggering mechanism for quasar activity in the local universe, with 65$^{+6}_{-7}$ per cent of the type 2 quasar hosts showing morphological features consistent with galaxy mergers or encounters, compared with only 22$^{+5}_{-4}$ per cent of a stellar-mass- and redshift-matched comparison sample of non-AGN galaxies $-$ a 5$\sigma$ difference. The type 2 quasar hosts are a factor 3.0$^{+0.5}_{-0.8}$ more likely to be morphologically disturbed than their matched non-AGN counterparts, similar to our previous results for powerful 3CR radio AGN of comparable [OIII] emission-line luminosity and redshift. In contrast to the idea that quasars are triggered at the peaks of galaxy mergers as the two nuclei coalesce, and only become visible post-coalescence, the majority of morphologically-disturbed type 2 quasar sources in our sample are observed in the pre-coalescence phase (61$^{+8}_{-9}$ per cent). We study the properties of a two-dimensional non-relativistic electron gas (TDEG) constrained on wires along a M\"{o}bius strip. We considered wires around the strip and along the transverse direction, across the width of the strip. For each direction, we investigate how the curvature modifies the electronic states and their corresponding energy spectrum. At the center of the strip, the wires around the surface form quantum rings whose spectrum depends on the strip radius $a$. For wires at the edge of the strip, the inner edge turns into the outer edge. Accordingly, the curvature yields localized states in the middle of the wire. In order to investigate the impact of radio jets on the interstellar medium (ISM) of galaxies hosting active galactic nuclei (AGN), we present subarcsecond resolution Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) CO(2-1) and CO(3-2) observations of the Teacup galaxy. This is a nearby ($D_{\rm L}$=388 Mpc) radio-quiet type-2 quasar (QSO2) with a compact radio jet ($P_{\rm jet}\approx$10$^{43}$ erg s$^{-1}$) that subtends a small angle from the molecular gas disc. Enhanced emission line widths perpendicular to the jet orientation have been reported for several nearby AGN for the ionised gas. For the molecular gas in the Teacup, not only do we find this enhancement in the velocity dispersion but also a higher brightness temperature ratio (T32/T21) perpendicular to the radio jet compared to the ratios found in the galaxy disc. Our results and the comparison with simulations suggest that the radio jet is compressing and accelerating the molecular gas, and driving a lateral outflow that shows enhanced velocity dispersion and higher gas excitation. These results provide further evidence that the coupling between the jet and the ISM is relevant to AGN feedback even in the case of radio-quiet galaxies., Comment: 9 pages, 8 figures. This paper aims to investigate the localization of the five-dimensional spinor field known as Elko (dual-helicity eigenspinors of the charge conjugation operator) by employing a Yukawa-like geometrical coupling in which the Elko field is non-minimally coupled to nonmetricity scalar $Q$. We adopt the braneworld scenarios in which the first-order formalism with sine-Gordon and linear superpotentials is employed to obtain the warp factors. A linear function supports the zero-mode trapping within the geometric coupling, leading to the same effective potential as the scalar field. In this work, we readdress the Dirac equation in the position-dependent mass (PDM) scenario. Here, one investigates the quantum dynamics of non-Hermitian fermionic particles with effective mass assuming a $(1+1)$-dimension flat spacetime. In seeking a Schr\"{o}dinger-like theory with PT symmetry is appropriate to assume a complex potential. This imaginary interaction produces an effective potential purely dependent on mass distribution. Furthermore, we study the non-relativistic limit by adopting the Foldy-Wouthuysen transformation. As a result, that limit leads to an ordering equivalent to the ordering that describes abrupt heterojunctions. Posteriorly, particular cases of mass distribution also were analyzed. Thus, interesting results arise for the case of a linear PDM, which produces an effective harmonic oscillator and induces the emergence of bound states. In the context of $f(T,B)$ modified teleparallel gravity, we investigate the influence of torsion scalar $T$ and boundary term $B$ on the confinement of both the gauge vector and Kalb-Ramond fields. Both fields require a suitable coupling in five-dimensional braneworld scenarios to yield a normalizable zero mode. We propose a Stueckelberg-like geometrical coupling that non-minimally couples the fields to the torsion scalar and boundary term. To set up our braneworld models, we use the first-order formalism in which two kinds of superpotential are taken: sine-Gordon and $\phi^{4}$-deformed. The geometrical coupling is used to produce a localized zero mode. Moreover, we analyze the massive spectrum for both fields and obtain possible resonant massive modes. Studies indicate strong evidence of a scaling relation in the local Universe between the supermassive black hole mass ($M_\rm{BH}$) and the stellar mass of their host galaxies ($M_\star$). They even show similar histories across cosmic times of their differential terms: star formation rate (SFR) and black hole accretion rate (BHAR). However, a clear picture of this coevolution is far from being understood. We select an X-ray sample of active galactic nuclei (AGN) up to $z=2.5$ in the miniJPAS footprint. Their X-ray to infrared spectral energy distributions (SEDs) have been modeled with CIGALE, constraining the emission to 68 bands. For a final sample of 308 galaxies, we derive their physical properties (e.g., $M_\star$, $\rm{SFR}$, $\rm{SFH}$, and $L_\rm{AGN}$). We also fit their optical spectra for a subsample of 113 sources to estimate the $M_\rm{BH}$. We calculate the BHAR depending on two radiative efficiency regimes. We find that the Eddington ratios ($\lambda$) and its popular proxy ($L_\rm{X}$/$M_\star$) have 0.6 dex of difference, and a KS-test indicates that they come from different distributions. Our sources exhibit a considerable scatter on the $M_\rm{BH}$-$M_\star$ relation, which can explain the difference between $\lambda$ and its proxy. We also model three evolution scenarios to recover the integral properties at $z=0$. Using the SFR and BHAR, we show a notable diminution in the scattering between $M_\rm{BH}$-$M_\star$. For the last scenario, we consider the SFH and a simple energy budget for the AGN accretion, obtaining a relation similar to the local Universe. Our study covers $\sim 1$ deg$^2$ in the sky and is sensitive to biases in luminosity. Nevertheless, we show that, for bright sources, the link between SFR and BHAR, and their decoupling based on an energy limit is the key that leads to the local $M_\rm{BH}$-$M_\star$ scaling relation., Comment: Accepted for publication in A&A

Using Schr\"{o}dinger's formalism, we investigate the quantum eigenstates of the heavy mesons trapped by a point-like defect and by Cornell's potential. One implements this defect to the model considering a spherical metric profile coupled to it. Furthermore, the Nikiforov-Uvarov method is applied to theory to study the quantum eigenstates of the heavy mesons. To calculate the quantum information entropy (QIE), one considers the wave functions that describe the charmonium and bottomonium states. To explore the QIE, we use the well-known Shannon's entropy formulated at the position and reciprocal space. The analysis of the QIE gives us relevant information about how the quantum information change with the variation of the point-like defect. Building a multi-field theory with canonical and non-canonical contributions, one studies the topological solitons of the O(3)-sigma model. We propose a model constituted by the O(3)-sigma field, the cuscuton-like neutral scalar field, and Maxwell's field. We investigate BPS properties considering a theory without interaction. One performs this study by adopting the first-order formalism in a model with contribution non-canonical. Thus, these contributions will preserve the spontaneous symmetry breaking of the system. In this research article, we use the Shannon's formalism to investigate the quantum information entropy of a particle trapped by the Aharonov-Bohm-type effect. We assumed that the particle is in principle, confined in a cylindrical box in the presence of an Aharonov-Bohm-type effect due to dislocation defect. In the teleparallel $f(T)$ gravity scenario, we consider a five-dimensional thick brane. This scenario is interesting because this theory can provide explanations for inflation, radiation, and dark matter under certain conditions. It is convenient to assume, for our study, a polynomial profile of the function $f(T)$. Indeed, some polynomial profiles can produce internal structures for which a brane splitting occurs. For functions $f(T)$ with this capability, geometrically contracted matter field configurations are obtained. These contractions of the matter field for the profiles of $f(T)$ reproduce compact-like settings. To complement the study, we analyze the stability of the brane using the concept of Configurational Entropy (CE). The CE arguments are interesting because they tell us the most stable and likely configurations from the brane in this gravitational background. The topological structures of a $\phi^6$ theory with multi-field are studied. The $\phi^6$ theory is interesting because it is a theory that allows the shrinkage of topological structures generating double-kink or even multi-kink configurations. In this work, we consider and study the solutions of a two real scalar fields model. To reach our purpose, we investigate the BPS properties of the fields using the approach proposed by Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield. Using the BPS energy density, the differential configurational entropy (DCE) of the BPS structures is studied. Mrk 477 is the closest type-2 quasar (QSO2), at a distance of 163 Mpc. This makes it an ideal laboratory for studying the interplay between nuclear activity and star formation with a great level of detail and signal-to-noise. In this Letter we present new mid-infrared (mid-IR) imaging and spectroscopic data with an angular resolution of 0.4 arcsec (~300 pc) obtained with the Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC) instrument CanariCam. The N-band (8-13 micron) spectrum of the central ~400 pc of the galaxy reveals [S IV]10.51 micron emission, but no 8.6 or 11.3 micron PAH features, which are commonly used as tracers of recent star formation. This is in stark contrast with the presence of a nuclear starburst of ~300 pc in size, an age of 6 Myr, and a mass of 1.1x10^8 Msun, as constrained from ultraviolet Hubble Space Telescope observations. Considering this, we argue that even the more resilient, neutral molecules that mainly produce the 11.3 micron PAH band are most likely being destroyed in the vicinity of the active nucleus despite the relatively large X-ray column density, of log N_H=23.5 cm^-2, and modest X-ray luminosity, of 1.5x10^43 erg/s. This highlights the importance of being cautious when using PAH features as star formation tracers in the central region of galaxies to evaluate the impact of feedback from active galactic nuclei., Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures. The far-IR/sub-mm wavelength range contains a wealth of diagnostic information that is important for understanding the role of radio AGN in galaxy evolution. Here we present the results of Herschel PACS and SPIRE observations of a complete sample of 46 powerful 2Jy radio AGN at intermediate redshifts (0.05 < z < 0.7), which represent the deepest pointed observations of a major sample of radio AGN undertaken by Herschel. In order to assess the importance of non-thermal synchrotron emission at far-IR wavelengths, we also present new APEX sub-mm and ALMA mm data. We find that the overall incidence of non-thermal contamination in the PACS bands ($<$200$\mu$m) is in the range 28 -- 43%; however, this rises to 30 -- 72% for wavelengths ($> $200$\mu$m) sampled by the SPIRE instrument. Non-thermal contamination is strongest in objects with compact CSS/GPS or extended FRI radio morphologies, and in those with type 1 optical spectra. Considering thermal dust emission, we find strong correlations between the 100 and 160$\mu$m monochromatic luminosities and AGN power indicators, providing further evidence that radiation from the AGN may be an important heating source for the far-IR emitting dust. Clearly, AGN contamination -- whether by the direct emission from synchrotron-emitting lobes and cores, or via radiative heating of the cool dust -- needs to be carefully considered when using the far-IR continuum to measure the star formation rates in the host galaxies of radio AGN., Comment: 22 pages, 8 figures, Accepted in MNRAS

We present a statistical analysis of the properties of the obscuring material around active galactic nuclei (AGN). This study represents the first of its kind for an ultra-hard X-ray (14-195keV; Swift/BAT) volume-limited (DL<40 Mpc) sample of 24 Seyfert (Sy) galaxies (BCS40 sample) using high angular resolution infrared data and various torus models: smooth, clumpy and two-phase torus models and clumpy disc+wind models. We find that the smooth, clumpy and two-phase torus models (i.e. without including the polar dusty wind component) and disc+wind models provide best fits for a comparable number of galaxies, 8/24 (33.3%) and 9/24 (37.5%), respectively. We find that the best-fitted models depend on the hydrogen column density (NH), which is related to the X-ray (unobscured/obscured) and/or optical (Sy1/Sy2) classification. In particular, smooth, clumpy and two-phase torus models best reproduce the infrared (IR) emission of AGN with relatively high hydrogen column density (median value of log (NH)=23.5+-0.8; i.e. Sy2). However, clumpy disc+wind models provide the best fits to the nuclear IR spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of Sy1/1.8/1.9 (median value of log (NH)=21.0+-1.0), specifically in the near-IR (NIR) range. The success of the disc+wind models in fitting the NIR emission of Sy1 galaxies is due to the combination of adding large graphite grains to the dust composition and self-obscuration effects caused by the wind at intermediate inclinations. In general, we find that the Seyfert galaxies having unfavourable (favourable) conditions, i.e. nuclear hydrogen column density and Eddington ratio, for launching IR dusty polar outflows are best-fitted with smooth, clumpy and two-phase torus (disk+wind) models confirming the predictions from simulations. Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) are carbon-based molecules that are ubiquitous in a variety of astrophysical objects and environments. In this work, we use JWST/MIRI MRS spectroscopy of three Seyferts to compare their nuclear PAH emission with that of star-forming regions. This study represents the first of its kind using sub-arcsecond angular resolution data of local luminous Seyferts (Lbol>10^44.46 erg/s) on a wide wavelength coverage (4.9-28.1 micron). We present an analysis of their nuclear PAH properties by comparing the observed ratios with PAH diagnostic model grids, derived from theoretical spectra. Our results show that a suite of PAH features is present in the innermost parts (~0.45 arcsec at 12 micron; in the inner ~142-245 pc) of luminous Seyfert galaxies. We find that the nuclear regions of AGN lie at different positions of the PAH diagnostic diagrams, whereas the SF regions are concentrated around the average values of SF galaxies. In particular, we find that the nuclear PAH emission mainly originates in neutral PAHs. In contrast, PAH emission originating in the SF regions favours ionised PAH grains. The observed PAH ratios in the nuclear region of AGN-dominated galaxy NGC 6552 indicate the presence of larger-sized PAH molecules compared with those of the SF regions. Therefore, our results provide evidence that the AGN have a significant impact on the ionization state (and probably the size) of the PAH grains on scales of ~142-245 pc., Comment: 12 pages, 10 figures. We present JWST/MIRI MRS spectroscopy of NGC7319, the largest galaxy in the Stephan's Quintet, observed as part of the Early Release Observations (ERO). NGC7319 hosts a type 2 active galactic nucleus (AGN) and a low-power radio jet (L_1.4GHz=3.3x10^22 W Hz^-1) with two asymmetric radio hotspots at 430 pc (N2) and 1.5 kpc (S2) projected distances from the unresolved radio core. The MRS data suggest that the molecular material in the disk of the galaxy decelerates the jet and causes this length asymmetry. We find enhanced emission from warm and hot H_2 (T_w=330+-40 K, T_h=900+-60 K) and ionized gas at the intersection between the jet axis and dust lanes in the disk. This emission is coincident with the radio hotspot N2, the hotspot closer to the core, suggesting that the jet-interstellar medium (ISM) interaction decelerates the jet. Conversely, the mid-infrared emission at the more distant hotspot is fainter, more highly ionized, and with lower H_2 excitation, suggesting a more diffuse atomic environment where the jet can progress to farther distances. At the N2 radio hotspot, the ionized gas mass (M_ion=(2.4-12)x10^5 Msun) is comparable to that of the warm H_2, but the former is more turbulent (sigma_ion~300 vs. sigma_H2~150 km/s), so the mechanical energy of the ionized gas is ~1.3-10 times higher. From these estimates, we find that only <1% of the jet energy remains as mechanical energy in these two ISM phases at N2. We also find extended (r>0.3-1.5 kpc) high-ionization emission ([MgV], [NeVI], and [NeV]) close to the radio hotspots. This initial analysis of NGC7319 shows the potential of MIRI/MRS to investigate the AGN feedback mechanisms due to radio jets and their radiation field in the, often heavily dust-enshrouded, central regions of galaxies. We analyze Near-Infrared Integral Field Spectrograph (NIFS) observations of the type-2 quasar (QSO2) SDSS J094521.33+173753.2 to investigate its warm molecular and ionized gas kinematics. This QSO2 has a bolometric luminosity of 10$^{45.7}$ erg s$^{-1}$ and a redshift of z = 0.128. The K-band spectra provided by NIFS cover a range of 1.99-2.40 $\mu$m where low-ionization (Pa$\alpha$ and Br$\delta$), high ionization ([S XI]$\lambda$1.920 $\mu$m and [Si~VI]$\lambda$1.963 $\mu$m) and warm molecular lines (from H$_2$ 1-0S(5) to 1-0S(1)) are detected, allowing us to study the multi-phase gas kinematics. Our analysis reveals gas in ordinary rotation in all the emission lines detected and also outflowing gas in the case of the low- and high-ionization emission lines. In the case of the nuclear spectrum, which corresponds to a circular aperture of 0.3\arcsec~(686 pc) in diameter, the warm molecular lines can be characterized using a single Gaussian component of full width at half maximum (FWHM)= 350-400 km s$^{-1}$, while Pa$\alpha$, Br$\delta$, and [Si~VI] are best fitted with two blue-shifted Gaussian components of FWHM$\sim$800 and 1700 km s$^{-1}$, in addition to a narrow component of $\sim$300 km s$^{-1}$. We interpret the blue-shifted broad components as outflowing gas, which reaches the highest velocities, of up to $-$840 km s$^{-1}$, in the south-east direction (PA$\sim$125$^{\circ}$), extending up to a distance of $\sim$3.4 kpc from the nucleus. The ionized outflow has a maximum mass outflow rate of $\dot{\text{{M}}}_{\text{{out, max}}}$=42-51 M$_\odot$ yr$^{-1}$, and its kinetic power represents 0.1$\%$ of the quasar bolometric luminosity., Comment: 24 pages, 20 figures and 5 tables. We investigate the influence of the matter field and the gauge field on the metric functions of the AdS$_3$ spacetime of the Maxwell-Higgs model. By considering a matter field with a solitonic profile with the ability to adjust the field variable from kink to compact-like configurations, the appearance of black hole solutions is noticed for an event horizon at $r_{+} \approx 1.5$. An interesting result is displayed when analyzing the influence of matter field compactification on the metric functions. As we obtain compact-like field configurations the metric functions tend to a ``linearized behavior''. However, the compactification of the field does not change the structure of the horizon of the magnetic black hole vortex. With the ADM formalism, the mass of the black hole vortex is calculated, and its numerical results are presented. By analyzing the so-called ADM mass, it is observed that the mass of the black hole vortex increases as the cosmological constant becomes more negative, and this coincides with the vortex core becoming smaller. Nonetheless, this mass tends to decrease as the solitonic profile of the matter field becomes more compacted. Then, the black hole temperature study is performed using the tunneling formalism. In this case, it is perceived that the cosmological constant, and the $\alpha$-parameter, will influence the Bekenstein-Hawking temperature. We investigate the quantum information by a theoretical measurement approach of an Aharanov-Bohm (AB) ring with Yukawa interaction in curved space with disclination. It obtained the so-called Shannon entropy, through the eigenfunctions of the system. The quantum states considered come from a Schroedinger theory with the AB field in the background of curved space. With this entropy, it can explore the quantum information at the position space and reciprocal space. We explore the effect of AGN activity on the star formation history of galaxies by analysing the stellar population properties of ten pairs of nearby twin galaxies -- selected as being visually similar except for the presence of an AGN. The selection of such twin samples represents a method to study AGN feedback, as recently proposed by del Moral Castro et al. We use integral field unit (IFU) data from CALIFA, stacked within three fixed apertures. AGN galaxies in a twin pair suggest more evolved stellar populations than their non-AGN counterpart 90% of the time, regardless of aperture size. A comparison with a large sample from SDSS confirms that most twins are representative of the general population, but in each twin the differences between twin members is significant. A set of targeted line strengths reveal the AGN member of a twin pair is older and more metal rich than the non-AGN galaxy, suggesting AGN galaxies in our sample may either have an earlier formation time or follow a different star formation and chemical enrichment history. The topological structures that arise from two-dimensional models are relevant physically and the first step towards understanding more complex systems. In this work, one studies the kink-like solutions of the matter field that emerge in a two-dimensional dilaton gravity scenario. Considering this scenario, we examine the linear stability of the matter field and the translational mode. Due to the specific profile of the solutions found, a differential configurational complexity (DCC) analysis of the system was necessary to confirm the nature of the structures. Outflows play a central role in galaxy evolution shaping the properties of galaxies. Understanding outflows and their effects in low luminosity AGNs, such as LINERs, is essential (e.g. they are a numerous AGN population in the local Universe). We obtained VLT/MUSE and GTC/MEGARA optical IFS-data for NGC1052, the prototypical LINER. The stars are distributed in a dynamically hot disc, with a centrally peaked velocity dispersion map and large observed velocity amplitudes. The ionised gas, probed by the primary component is detected up to $\sim$30arcsec ($\sim$3.3 kpc) mostly in the polar direction with blue and red velocities ($\mid$V$\mid$$<$250 km/s). The velocity dispersion map shows a notable enhancement ($\sigma$$>$90 km/s) crossing the galaxy along the major axis of rotation in the central 10arcsec. The secondary component has a bipolar morphology, velocity dispersion larger than 150 km/s and velocities up to 660 km/s. A third component is detected but not spatially resolved. The maps of the NaD absorption indicate optically thick neutral gas with a velocity field consistent with a slow rotating disc ($\Delta$V = 77$\pm$12 km/s) but the velocity dispersion map is off-centred without any counterpart in the flux map. We found evidence of an ionised gas outflow with mass of 1.6$\pm$0.6 $\times$ 10$^{5}$ Msun, and mass rate of 0.4$\pm$0.2 Msun/yr. The outflow is propagating in a cocoon of gas with enhanced turbulence and might be triggering the onset of kpc-scale buoyant bubbles (polar emission). Taking into account the energy and kinetic power of the outflow (1.3$\pm$0.9 $\times$ 10$^{53}$ erg and 8.8$\pm$3.5 $\times$ 10$^{40}$ erg/s, respectively) as well as its alignment with both the jet and the cocoon, and that the gas is collisionally ionised, we consider that the outflow is jet-powered, although some contribution from the AGN is possible., Comment: A&A accepted 04/04/2022, 31 pages, 12 figures and 3 appendixes

For the study of topological vortices with non-minimal coupling, we built a kind of non-canonical O(3)-sigma model, with a Maxwell term modified by a dielectric function. Through the BPS formalism, an investigation is made on possible configurations of vortices in topological sectors of the sigma model and the real scalar field. For a particular ansatz, the solutions of the topological sector of the real scalar field are described by the known kink solutions. On the other hand, when studying the vortices in the non-minimal sector of the pure O(3)-sigma model, it is detected the emergence of solutions that generate solitary waves similar to structures derived from a KdV-like theory. We observed that in the study of mixed models, namely, the topological sector of the O(3)-sigma model coupled to the topological sector of the real scalar field, the vortex solutions assume a profile of a step function. Then, when kinks of the topological sector of the scalar field are interacting with the field of the sigma model, it makes the field solutions of the O(3)-sigma model become extremely localized, making the vortice structures non-physical., Comment: 16 pages, 14 figures. We propose a braneworld scenario in a modified symmetric teleparallel gravitational theory, where the dynamics for the gravitational field is encoded in the nonmetricity tensor rather than in the curvature. Assuming a single real scalar field with a sine-Gordon self-interaction, the generalized quadratic nonmetricity invariant $\mathbb{Q}$ controls the brane width while keeping the shape of the energy density. By considering power corrections of the invariant $\mathbb{Q}$ in the gravitational Lagrangian, the sine-Gordon potential is modified exhibiting new barriers and false vacuum. As a result, the domain wall brane obtains an inner structure, and it undergoes a splitting process. In addition, we also propose a non-minimal coupling between a bulk fermion field and the nonmetricity invariant $\mathbb{Q}$. Such geometric coupling leads to a massless chiral fermion bound to the 3-brane and a stable tower of non-localized massive states., Comment: 26 pages, 16 figures

We use deep Herschel observations of the complete 2Jy sample of powerful radio AGNs in the local universe (0.05 < z < 0.7) to probe their cool interstellar medium (ISM) contents and star-forming properties, comparing them against other samples of nearby luminous AGNs and quiescent galaxies. This allows us to investigate triggering and feedback mechanisms. We find that the dust masses of the strong-line radio galaxies (SLRGs) in our sample are similar to those of radio-quiet quasars, and that their median dust mass (Mdust = 2 x 10^7 Msun) is enhanced by a factor ~200 compared to that of non-AGN ellipticals, but lower by a factor ~16 relative to that of local ultra-luminous infrared galaxies (UILRGs). Along with compelling evidence for merger signatures in optical images, the SLRGs in our sample also show relatively high star-formation efficiencies, despite the fact that many of them fall below the main sequence for star forming galaxies. Together, these results suggest that most of our SLRGs have been re-triggered by late-time mergers that are relatively minor in terms of their gas contents. In comparison with the SLRGs, the radio AGNs with weak optical emission lines (WLRGs) and edge-darkened radio jets (FRIs) have both lower cool ISM masses and star-formation rates (by a factor of >30), consistent with being fuelled by a different mechanism (e.g. the direct accretion of hot gas)., Comment: 20 pages, 8 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS

In this work, we propose an exponentially generalized Abelian model. We investigated the presence of vortex structures in models coupled to Maxwell and Chern-Simons fields. We chose to investigate the dynamics of the complex scalar field in models coupled separately to the Maxwell term and the Chern-Simons term. For this, we analyze the Bogomol'nyi equations in both cases to describe the static field configurations. An interesting result appears when we note that scalar field solutions generate degenerate minimum energy configurations by a factor of $\nu^{2}$ in Maxwell's case. On the other hand, in the case of Chern-Simons, the solutions in this sector are degenerate by a factor of $\kappa\nu^{2}/a_{s}$.
