AI-powered binary code similarity detection (BinSD), which transforms intricate binary code comparison to the distance measure of code embedding through neural networks, has been widely applied to program analysis. However, due to the diversity of the adopted embedding strategies, evaluation methodologies, running environments, and/or benchmarks, it is difficult to quantitatively understand to what extent the BinSD problem has been solved, especially in realworld applications. Moreover, the lack of an in-depth investigation of the increasingly complex embedding neural networks and various evaluation methodologies has become the key factor hindering the development of AI-powered BinSD. To fill these research gaps, in this paper, we present a systematic evaluation of state-of-the-art AI-powered BinSD approaches by conducting a comprehensive comparison of BinSD systems on similar function detection and two downstream applications, namely vulnerability search and license violation detection. Building upon this evaluation, we perform the first investigation of embedding neural networks and evaluation methodologies. The experimental results yield several findings, which provide valuable insights in the BinSD domain, including (1) despite the GNN-based BinSD systems currently achieving the best performance in similar function detection, there still exists considerable space for improvements;(2) the capability of AI-powered BinSD approaches exhibits significant variation when applied to different downstream applications;(3) existing evaluation methodologies still need substantial adjustments. For instance, the evaluation metrics (such as the widely adopted ROC and AUC) usually fall short of accurately representing the model performance of the practical use in realworld scenarios. Based on the extensive experiments and analysis, we further provide several promising future research directions.

The past few years have witnessed substantial advancement in text-guided image generation powered by diffusion models. However, it was shown that text-to-image diffusion models are vulnerable to training image memorization, raising concerns on copyright infringement and privacy invasion. In this work, we perform practical analysis of memorization in text-to-image diffusion models. Targeting a set of images to protect, we conduct quantitive analysis on them without need to collect any prompts. Specifically, we first formally define the memorization of image and identify three necessary conditions of memorization, respectively similarity, existence and probability. We then reveal the correlation between the model's prediction error and image replication. Based on the correlation, we propose to utilize inversion techniques to verify the safety of target images against memorization and measure the extent to which they are memorized. Model developers can utilize our analysis method to discover memorized images or reliably claim safety against memorization. Extensive experiments on the Stable Diffusion, a popular open-source text-to-image diffusion model, demonstrate the effectiveness of our analysis method.

Recently, ChatGPT has attracted great attention from the code analysis domain. Prior works show that ChatGPT has the capabilities of processing foundational code analysis tasks, such as abstract syntax tree generation, which indicates the potential of using ChatGPT to comprehend code syntax and static behaviors. However, it is unclear whether ChatGPT can complete more complicated real-world vulnerability management tasks, such as the prediction of security relevance and patch correctness, which require an all-encompassing understanding of various aspects, including code syntax, program semantics, and related manual comments. In this paper, we explore ChatGPT's capabilities on 6 tasks involving the complete vulnerability management process with a large-scale dataset containing 70,346 samples. For each task, we compare ChatGPT against SOTA approaches, investigate the impact of different prompts, and explore the difficulties. The results suggest promising potential in leveraging ChatGPT to assist vulnerability management. One notable example is ChatGPT's proficiency in tasks like generating titles for software bug reports. Furthermore, our findings reveal the difficulties encountered by ChatGPT and shed light on promising future directions. For instance, directly providing random demonstration examples in the prompt cannot consistently guarantee good performance in vulnerability management. By contrast, leveraging ChatGPT in a self-heuristic way -- extracting expertise from demonstration examples itself and integrating the extracted expertise in the prompt is a promising research direction. Besides, ChatGPT may misunderstand and misuse the information in the prompt. Hardware generation languages (HGLs) increase hardware design productivity by creating parameterized modules and test benches. Unfortunately, existing tools are not widely adopted due to several demerits, including limited support for asynchronous circuits and unknown states, lack of concise and efficient language features, and low integration of simulation and verification functions. This paper introduces PyHGL, an open-source Python framework that aims to provide a simple and unified environment for hardware generation, simulation, and verification. PyHGL language is a syntactical superset of Python, which greatly reduces the lines of code (LOC) and improves productivity by providing unique features such as dynamic typing, vectorized operations, and automatic port deduction. In addition, PyHGL integrates an event-driven simulator that simulates the asynchronous behaviors of digital circuits using three-state logic. We also propose an algorithm that eliminates the calculation and transmission overhead of unknown state propagation for binary stimuli. The results suggest that PyHGL code is up to 6.1x denser than traditional RTL and generates high-quality synthesizable RTL code. Moreover, the optimized simulator achieves 2.9x speed up and matches the performance of a commonly used open-source logic simulator.

Prompt-tuning has emerged as an attractive paradigm for deploying large-scale language models due to its strong downstream task performance and efficient multitask serving ability. Despite its wide adoption, we empirically show that prompt-tuning is vulnerable to downstream task-agnostic backdoors, which reside in the pretrained models and can affect arbitrary downstream tasks. The state-of-the-art backdoor detection approaches cannot defend against task-agnostic backdoors since they hardly converge in reversing the backdoor triggers. To address this issue, we propose LMSanitator, a novel approach for detecting and removing task-agnostic backdoors on Transformer models. Instead of directly inverting the triggers, LMSanitator aims to invert the predefined attack vectors (pretrained models' output when the input is embedded with triggers) of the task-agnostic backdoors, which achieves much better convergence performance and backdoor detection accuracy. LMSanitator further leverages prompt-tuning's property of freezing the pretrained model to perform accurate and fast output monitoring and input purging during the inference phase. Extensive experiments on multiple language models and NLP tasks illustrate the effectiveness of LMSanitator. Differential privacy (DP), as a rigorous mathematical definition quantifying privacy leakage, has become a well-accepted standard for privacy protection. Combined with powerful machine learning techniques, differentially private machine learning (DPML) is increasingly important. As the most classic DPML algorithm, DP-SGD incurs a significant loss of utility, which hinders DPML's deployment in practice. Many studies have recently proposed improved algorithms based on DP-SGD to mitigate utility loss. However, these studies are isolated and cannot comprehensively measure the performance of improvements proposed in algorithms. More importantly, there is a lack of comprehensive research to compare improvements in these DPML algorithms across utility, defensive capabilities, and generalizability. We fill this gap by performing a holistic measurement of improved DPML algorithms on utility and defense capability against membership inference attacks (MIAs) on image classification tasks. We first present a taxonomy of where improvements are located in the machine learning life cycle. Based on our taxonomy, we jointly perform an extensive measurement study of the improved DPML algorithms. We also cover state-of-the-art label differential privacy (Label DP) algorithms in the evaluation. According to our empirical results, DP can effectively defend against MIAs, and sensitivity-bounding techniques such as per-sample gradient clipping play an important role in defense. We also explore some improvements that can maintain model utility and defend against MIAs more effectively. Experiments show that Label DP algorithms achieve less utility loss but are fragile to MIAs. NVMe(Non-Volatile Memory Express) is an industry standard for solid-state drives (SSDs) that has been widely adopted in data centers. NVMe virtualization is crucial in cloud computing as it allows for virtualized NVMe devices to be used by virtual machines (VMs), thereby improving the utilization of storage resources. However, traditional software-based solutions have flexibility benefits but often come at the cost of performance degradation or high CPU overhead. On the other hand, hardware-assisted solutions offer high performance and low CPU usage, but their adoption is often limited by the need for special hardware support or the requirement for new hardware development. In this paper, we propose LightIOV, a novel software-based NVMe virtualization mechanism that achieves high performance and scalability without consuming valuable CPU resources and without requiring special hardware support. LightIOV can support thousands of VMs on each server. The key idea behind LightIOV is NVMe hardware I/O queues passthrough, which enables VMs to directly access I/O queues of NVMe devices, thus eliminating virtualization overhead and providing near-native performance. Results from our experiments show that LightIOV can provide comparable performance to VFIO, with an IOPS of 97.6%-100.2% of VFIO. Furthermore, in high-density VMs environments, LightIOV achieves 31.4% lower latency than SPDK-Vhost when running 200 VMs, and an improvement of 27.1% in OPS performance in real-world applications.

Despite the fact that DeepFake forgery detection algorithms have achieved impressive performance on known manipulations, they often face disastrous performance degradation when generalized to an unseen manipulation. Some recent works show improvement in generalization but rely on features fragile to image distortions such as compression. To this end, we propose Diff-ID, a concise and effective approach that explains and measures the identity loss induced by facial manipulations. When testing on an image of a specific person, Diff-ID utilizes an authentic image of that person as a reference and aligns them to the same identity-insensitive attribute feature space by applying a face-swapping generator. We then visualize the identity loss between the test and the reference image from the image differences of the aligned pairs, and design a custom metric to quantify the identity loss. The metric is then proved to be effective in distinguishing the forgery images from the real ones. Extensive experiments show that our approach achieves high detection performance on DeepFake images and state-of-the-art generalization ability to unknown forgery methods, while also being robust to image distortions.

Recently, face swapping has been developing rapidly and achieved a surprising reality, raising concerns about fake content. As a countermeasure, various detection approaches have been proposed and achieved promising performance. However, most existing detectors struggle to maintain performance on unseen face swapping methods and low-quality images. Apart from the generalization problem, current detection approaches have been shown vulnerable to evasion attacks crafted by detection-aware manipulators. Lack of robustness under adversary scenarios leaves threats for applying face swapping detection in real world. In this paper, we propose a novel face swapping detection approach based on face identification probability distributions, coined as IdP_FSD, to improve the generalization and robustness. IdP_FSD is specially designed for detecting swapped faces whose identities belong to a finite set, which is meaningful in real-world applications. Compared with previous general detection methods, we make use of the available real faces with concerned identities and require no fake samples for training. IdP_FSD exploits face swapping's common nature that the identity of swapped face combines that of two faces involved in swapping. We reflect this nature with the confusion of a face identification model and measure the confusion with the maximum value of the output probability distribution. What's more, to defend our detector under adversary scenarios, an attention-based finetuning scheme is proposed for the face identification models used in IdP_FSD. Extensive experiments show that the proposed IdP_FSD not only achieves high detection performance on different benchmark datasets and image qualities but also raises the bar for manipulators to evade the detection.

Most existing 3D geometry copy detection research focused on 3D watermarking, which first embeds ``watermarks'' and then detects the added watermarks. However, this kind of methods is non-straightforward and may be less robust to attacks such as cropping and noise. In this paper, we focus on a fundamental and practical research problem: judging whether a point cloud is plagiarized or copied to another point cloud in the presence of several manipulations (e.g., similarity transformation, smoothing). We propose a novel method to address this critical problem. Our key idea is first to align the two point clouds and then calculate their similarity distance. We design three different measures to compute the similarity. We also introduce two strategies to speed up our method.
