The State of Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) produced airborne lidar-derived elevation data for the Pilgrim Hot Springs area, western Alaska. Both aerial lidar and ground control data were collected by DGGS. This data collection is being released as a Raw Data File with an open end-user license. The Rampart-Manley electromagnetic and magnetic airborne geophysical survey is located in interior Alaska in the Rampart and Hot Springs mining districts, about 110 kilometers northwest of Fairbanks, Alaska. Frequency domain electromagnetic and magnetic data were collected with the DIGHEMV system from September to October 1995, and from August to September 1996. A total of 7510 line kilometers were collected covering 2679.4 square kilometers. Line spacing was 400 meters (m). Alaska's Geothermal Energy Potential--Is the Future Now? explores the potential of geothermal energy as a renewable energy source in Alaska. The state currently relies on diesel, natural gas, and coal, which contribute to high energy costs. However, Alaska has seen an increase in renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydropower. Geothermal energy, which can provide stable baseload power with no polluting emissions, is another promising source. Alaska has 97 known geothermal springs, but only one site, Chena Hot Springs, has been developed for local use. The rest of the state's geothermal potential remains poorly characterized, highlighting the need for new geoscience information to attract industry investment and promote economic growth. Promising developments include the Makushin geothermal project, geothermal prospecting permits at Augustine Island and Mount Spurr, and the selection of two community-led geothermal projects by the U.S. Department of Energy.
