Emission Line Galaxies (ELGs) are one of the main tracers that the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) uses to probe the universe. However, they are afflicted by strong spurious correlations between target density and observing conditions known as imaging systematics. We present the imaging systematics mitigation applied to the DESI Data Release 1 (DR1) large-scale structure catalogs used in the DESI 2024 cosmological analyses. We also explore extensions of the fiducial treatment. This includes a combined approach, through forward image simulations in conjunction with neural network-based regression, to obtain an angular selection function that mitigates the imaging systematics observed in the DESI DR1 ELGs target density. We further derive a line-of-sight selection function from the forward model that removes the strong redshift dependence between imaging systematics and low redshift ELGs. Combining both angular and redshift-dependent systematics, we construct a 3D selection function and assess the impact of all selection functions on clustering statistics. We quantify differences between these extended treatments and the fiducial treatment in terms of the measured 2-point statistics. We find that the results are generally consistent with the fiducial treatment and conclude that the differences are far less than the imaging systematics uncertainty included in DESI 2024 full-shape measurements. We present cosmological results from the measurement of clustering of galaxy, quasar and Lyman-$\alpha$ forest tracers from the first year of observations with the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI Data Release 1). We adopt the full-shape (FS) modeling of the power spectrum, including the effects of redshift-space distortions, in an analysis which has been validated in a series of supporting papers. In the flat $\Lambda$CDM cosmological model, DESI (FS+BAO), combined with a baryon density prior from Big Bang Nucleosynthesis and a weak prior on the scalar spectral index, determines matter density to $\Omega_\mathrm{m}=0.2962\pm 0.0095$, and the amplitude of mass fluctuations to $\sigma_8=0.842\pm 0.034$. The addition of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) data tightens these constraints to $\Omega_\mathrm{m}=0.3056\pm 0.0049$ and $\sigma_8=0.8121\pm 0.0053$, while further addition of the the joint clustering and lensing analysis from the Dark Energy Survey Year-3 (DESY3) data leads to a 0.4% determination of the Hubble constant, $H_0 = (68.40\pm 0.27)\,{\rm km\,s^{-1}\,Mpc^{-1}}$. In models with a time-varying dark energy equation of state, combinations of DESI (FS+BAO) with CMB and type Ia supernovae continue to show the preference, previously found in the DESI DR1 BAO analysis, for $w_0>-1$ and $w_a<0$ with similar levels of significance. DESI data, in combination with the CMB, impose the upper limits on the sum of the neutrino masses of $\sum m_\nu < 0.071\,{\rm eV}$ at 95% confidence. DESI data alone measure the modified-gravity parameter that controls the clustering of massive particles, $\mu_0=0.11^{+0.45}_{-0.54}$, while the combination of DESI with the CMB and the clustering and lensing analysis from DESY3 constrains both modified-gravity parameters, giving $\mu_0 = 0.04\pm 0.22$ and $\Sigma_0 = 0.044\pm 0.047$, in agreement with general relativity. We present the samples of galaxies and quasars used for DESI 2024 cosmological analyses, drawn from the DESI Data Release 1 (DR1). We describe the construction of large-scale structure (LSS) catalogs from these samples, which include matched sets of synthetic reference `randoms' and weights that account for variations in the observed density of the samples due to experimental design and varying instrument performance. We detail how we correct for variations in observational completeness, the input `target' densities due to imaging systematics, and the ability to confidently measure redshifts from DESI spectra. We then summarize how remaining uncertainties in the corrections can be translated to systematic uncertainties for particular analyses. We describe the weights added to maximize the signal-to-noise of DESI DR1 2-point clustering measurements. We detail measurement pipelines applied to the LSS catalogs that obtain 2-point clustering measurements in configuration and Fourier space. The resulting 2-point measurements depend on window functions and normalization constraints particular to each sample, and we present the corrections required to match models to the data. We compare the configuration- and Fourier-space 2-point clustering of the data samples to that recovered from simulations of DESI DR1 and find they are, generally, in statistical agreement to within 2\% in the inferred real-space over-density field. We present the technical details on how large-scale structure (LSS) catalogs are constructed from redshifts measured from spectra observed by the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI). The LSS catalogs provide the information needed to determine the relative number density of DESI tracers as a function of redshift and celestial coordinates and, e.g., determine clustering statistics. We produce catalogs that are weighted subsamples of the observed data, each matched to a weighted `random' catalog that forms an unclustered sampling of the probability density that DESI could have observed those data at each location. Precise knowledge of the DESI observing history and associated hardware performance allows for a determination of the DESI footprint and the number of times DESI has covered it at sub-arcsecond level precision. This enables the completeness of any DESI sample to be modeled at this same resolution. The pipeline developed to create LSS catalogs has been designed to easily allow robustness tests and enable future improvements. Quantum spin liquids are exotic phases of matter that are prevented from being frozen even at zero temperature, and appear disordered by local probes that monitor the subsystems. Driven by quantum fluctuations, topological spin liquids are manifested by their long-range entanglement, and are characterized by quasiparticles with fractional statistics. Here, we make contact of a 2D Rydberg ice to a QED vacuum of an ultra-high-finesse optical cavity, and dynamically promote the frustrated background field of the spin ice to a $\mathbb{Z}_2$ spin liquid. We characterize the deconfined nature of the dynamical gauge theory residing in the strongly-correlated Rydberg matter with Wilsonian loops. We observe the proliferation of vison and spinon pairs by site-resolved fluorescence imaging, and detect the exchange statistical angle $\theta_{\text{top}}\sim\pi/2$ between the two anyons by monitoring the dynamical correlators of the fluctuating cavity photons. Our work provides the first microscopic detection of anyons in a topological quantum matter, and heralds the arrival of strongly-coupled many-body QED, where interacting matter and light are put on equal footing at the level of individual quanta., Comment: This preprint is withdrawn due to incorrect result

The framework of tunnelling states in amorphous media provides the dissipative mechanism that imposes fundamental limits on the performances of ultra-high-Q optical and microwave resonators. In the optical domain, however, the microscopic nature of the tunnelling states and their direct consequences to the optical losses have not been characterized. In this work, we examine the interplay between glassy physics and stoichiometric point defects of ultra-low-loss dielectric mirrors, with a focus on two-level systems of oxygen defects in metal oxide, Ta$_2$O$_5$. In the context of ultra-high-finesse optical cavities, we characterize the Urbach tail of Ta$_2$O$_5$ under thermal annealing and reactive oxygen plasma. For the first time, we microscopically resolve the individual oxygen point defects on the mirror surfaces and introduce laser-assisted annealing to selectively "cure" surface defects. By exploiting these techniques, we report the realization of ultra-high-finesse optical cavity with finesse $\mathcal{F}=450,000$ and the absorption-scatter loss $ 0.1 \pm 0.2$ ppm at $852$ nm., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures

The DES-CMASS sample (DMASS) is designed to optimally combine the weak lensing measurements from the Dark Energy Survey (DES) and redshift-space distortions (RSD) probed by the CMASS galaxy sample from the Baryonic Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS). In this paper, we demonstrate the feasibility of adopting DMASS as the equivalent of BOSS CMASS for a joint analysis of DES and BOSS in the framework of modified gravity. We utilize the angular clustering of the DMASS galaxies, cosmic shear of the DES METACALIBRATION sources, and cross-correlation of the two as data vectors. By jointly fitting the combination of the data with the RSD measurements from the BOSS CMASS sample and Planck data, we obtain the constraints on modified gravity parameters $\mu_0 = -0.37^{+0.47}_{-0.45}$ and $\Sigma_0 = 0.078^{+0.078}_{-0.082}$. We do not detect any significant deviation from General Relativity. Our constraints of modified gravity measured with DMASS are tighter than those with the DES Year 1 redMaGiC galaxy sample with the same external data sets by $29\%$ for $\mu_0$ and $21\%$ for $\Sigma_0$, and comparable to the published results of the DES Year 1 modified gravity analysis despite this work using fewer external data sets. This improvement is mainly because the galaxy bias parameter is shared and more tightly constrained by both CMASS and DMASS, effectively breaking the degeneracy between the galaxy bias and other cosmological parameters. An exciting frontier in quantum information science is the realization and control of complex quantum many-body systems. Hybrid nanophotonic system with cold atoms has emerged as the paradigmatic platform for engineering long-range spin models from the bottom up, exploiting their modal geometry and group dispersion for tailored interactions. An important challenge is the physical limitation imposed by the photonic bath, constraining the types of local Hamiltonians that decompose the available physical models and restricting the spatial dimensions to that of the dielectric media. However, at the nanoscopic scale, atom-field interaction inherently accompanies significant driven-dissipative quantum forces that may be tamed as a new form of a mediator for controlling the atomic internal states. Here, we formulate a quantum optics toolbox for constructing a universal quantum matter with individual atoms in the vicinity of 1D photonic crystal waveguides. The enabling platform synthesizes analog quantum materials of universal $2$-local Hamiltonian graphs mediated by phononic superfluids of the trapped atoms. We generalize our microscopic theory of analog universal quantum simulator to the development of dynamical gauge fields. In the spirit of gauge theories, we investigate emergent lattice models for strongly coupled SU$(n)$-constrained excitations driven by an underlying multi-body interaction. As a minimal model in the infrared, we explore the realization of an archetypical strong coupling quantum field theory, SU($n$) Wess-Zumino-Witten model, and discuss a diagnostic tool to extract the entire conformal data of the field theory by the static and dynamical correlators of the fluctuating photons in the guided mode., Comment: 22 pages, 12 figures

The deformation evolution of giant dipole resonance (GDR), in the chains of Sm and Nd isotopes, are investigated in the framework of an extended quantum molecular dynamics (EQMD) model. The mass number dependence of resonance peak position $(E_{m})$ in the major and minor axis directions of deformed nuclei as well as the difference $\Delta E_{m}$ between them are described in detail. The correlation between the splitting ($\Delta E_{m} /\bar{E}_m $) of the GDR spectra and the deformation($ \beta_{2}$) is further studied. The results confirm that $\Delta E_{m} /\bar{E}_m $ is proportional to $ \beta_{2}$. By comparing the calculation with the experimental data on photon absorption cross section $\sigma_{\gamma}$, it shows that the EQMD model can quite well reproduce the shape of GDR spectra from spherical to prolate shape. The GDR shapes in $^{134}$Sm, $^{136}$Sm, $^{138}$Sm, $^{130}$Nd, $^{132}$Nd and $^{134}$Nd are also predicted. In addition, the symmetry energy coefficient $(E_{sym})$ dependence of GDR spectra of $^{150}$Nd is also discussed. It is found that the calculated GDR spectrum in the EQMD model is perfectly consistent with the experimental results when $E_{sym}$ equals to 32 MeV., Comment: 6 figures, 8 pages; Physical Review C (in press)

The classical walking behaviors of a single atom in an amplitude-modulated standing wave lattice beyond the internal dynamics are investigated. Based on a simple effective model, we identify a diversity of dynamic regimes of atomic motion by periodically adjusting the lattice depth. Harmonic oscillation or pendulum rotation with classical step-jumping, random scattering walking, chaotic transportation, quasi-periodic trapped motion and roughly ballistic free flying are found in this simple model within different parametric regions by approximate analyses. Evidence is presented for a four particle acceptor complex in 3C, 6H, and 4H SiC, obtained in low-temperature photoluminescence and cathodoluminescence experiments. The new lines were observed in p-type films lightly doped with aluminum, of 6H, 4H, and 3C SiC grown on the silicon (0001) face of 6H SiC under special conditions. The lines increase in intensity as more aluminum is added during growth. The multiplicity of observed lines is consistent with symmetry-based models similar to those which have been proposed to describe 4A centers in p-type zincblende semiconductors.

Electrical characteristics of Au contacts on beta-SiC films, grown epitaxially on both nominal and off-axis (100) silicon substrates, are reported. An analysis of the logarithmic I-V plots of the Au/beta-SiC diodes revealed information pertaining to the deep states present in the materials. It was found that while the beta-SiC films grown on nominally (100) oriented substrates show the presence of two deep levels located between 0.26 and 0.38 eV below the conduction bandedge, the beta-SiC films deposited on off-axis substrates have only one deep level, located about 0.49 eV below the conduction bandedge for the 2-deg off (100) substrates and 0.57 eV for the 4-deg off (100) substrates. The presence of the shallower deep states in the beta-SiC films grown on nominal (100) substrates is attributed to the electrical activity of antiphase domain boundaries.
