The exceptional electrochemical performance of lithium-ion batteries has spurred considerable interest in advanced battery technologies, particularly those utilizing ternary nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) cathode materials, which are renowned for their robust electrochemical performance and structural stability. Building upon this research, investigators have explored doping additional elements into NCM cathode materials to further enhance their electrochemical performance and structural integrity. However, the multitude of doping strategies available for NCM battery systems presents a challenge in determining the most effective approach. In this study, we elucidate the potential of ternary NCM systems as cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries. We compile a comprehensive database of lithium-ion batteries employing NCM systems from various sources of prior research and develop a corresponding data-driven model utilizing graph neural networks to predict optimal doping strategies. Our aim is to provide insights into the NCM-based battery systems for both fundamental understanding and practical applications.

The widespread use of various chemical gases in industrial processes necessitates effective measures to prevent their leakage during transportation and storage, given their high toxicity. Thermal infrared-based computer vision detection techniques provide a straightforward approach to identify gas leakage areas. However, the development of high-quality algorithms has been challenging due to the low texture in thermal images and the lack of open-source datasets. In this paper, we present the RGB-Thermal Cross Attention Network (RT-CAN), which employs an RGB-assisted two-stream network architecture to integrate texture information from RGB images and gas area information from thermal images. Additionally, to facilitate the research of invisible gas detection, we introduce Gas-DB, an extensive open-source gas detection database including about 1.3K well-annotated RGB-thermal images with eight variant collection scenes. Experimental results demonstrate that our method successfully leverages the advantages of both modalities, achieving state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance among RGB-thermal methods, surpassing single-stream SOTA models in terms of accuracy, Intersection of Union (IoU), and F2 metrics by 4.86%, 5.65%, and 4.88%, respectively. Weyl proposed a schema for symbolic construction of scientific representation starting from subjective immediate experience, and moving toward the objective ordered manifolds of possibilities due to "rational motives" of comprehending the world in "the 'truly objective', exact, non-qualitative" way. Weyl's purely infinitesimal geometry may be viewed as an application of the schema.Weyl himself as well as various researchers have discussed the introduction of a local coordinate system as an effort to bridge the chasm between the intuitive and the mathematical continuum for this schema. I argue that the introduction of a local coordinate system only explained the "exact, non-qualitative" aspect of the "rational motives", and there is also a problem of how the intersubjective constitution is possible. The latter was not explicitly explained by Weyl, and corresponds to the "truly objective" aspect of "rational motives". I argue that, a comprised intersubjective constitution could be achieved by a strategy of introducing an additional structure to starting points for theoretical constructions. The strategy might also provide an explanation for gauge invariance in Weyl's unified field theory., Comment: 21 pages

Taking Heisenberg's and Schrodinger's theories of quantum mechanics as his case study, De Regt's contextual theory of understanding argues that recognizing qualitatively characteristic consequences of a theory T without performing exact calculations is a criterion for scientific understanding. From the perspective of this theory of understanding, the task of understanding quantum mechanics seems to have been achieved already or even finished. This appears to disagree with some physicists' attitude to the understanding of quantum mechanics in line with Richard Feynman's famous slogan "I think I can safely say that nobody really understands quantum mechanics." Moreover, if the task of understanding quantum mechanics has been finished already, there would be a conflict between the contextual theory of understanding of quantum mechanics and interpretations of quantum mechanics., Comment: 11 pages

Competition-based approach to controlling the false discovery rate (FDR) recently rose to prominence when, generalizing it to sequential hypothesis testing, Barber and Cand\`es used it as part of their knockoff-filter. Control of the FDR implies that the, arguably more important, false discovery proportion is only controlled in an average sense. We present TDC-SB and TDC-UB that provide upper prediction bounds on the FDP in the list of discoveries generated when controlling the FDR using competition. Using simulated and real data we show that, overall, our new procedures offer significantly tighter upper bounds than ones obtained using the recently published approach of Katsevich and Ramdas, even when the latter is further improved using the interpolation concept of Goeman et al., Comment: The original version of this paper appeared as arxiv:2011.11939v1. Geometric rectification of images of distorted documents finds wide applications in document digitization and Optical Character Recognition (OCR). Although smoothly curved deformations have been widely investigated by many works, the most challenging distortions, e.g. complex creases and large foldings, have not been studied in particular. The performance of existing approaches, when applied to largely creased or folded documents, is far from satisfying, leaving substantial room for improvement. To tackle this task, knowledge about document rectification should be incorporated into the computation, among which the developability of 3D document models and particular textural features in the images, such as straight lines, are the most essential ones. For this purpose, we propose a general framework of document image rectification in which a computational isometric mapping model is utilized for expressing a 3D document model and its flattening in the plane. Based on this framework, both model developability and textural features are considered in the computation. The experiments and comparisons to the state-of-the-art approaches demonstrated the effectiveness and outstanding performance of the proposed method. Exotic phenomenon can be achieved in quantum materials by confining electronic states into two dimensions. For example, relativistic fermions are realised in a single layer of carbon atoms, the quantized Hall effect can result from two-dimensional (2D) systems, and the superconducting transition temperature can be enhanced significantly in a one-atomic-layer material. Ordinarily, 2D electronic system can be obtained by exfoliating the layered materials, growing monolayer materials on substrates, or establishing interfaces between different materials. Herein, we use femtosecond infrared laser pulses to invert the periodic lattice distortion sectionally in a three-dimensional (3D) charge density wave material, creating macroscopic domain walls of transient 2D ordered electronic states with exotic properties. The corresponding ultrafast electronic and lattice dynamics are captured by time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and MeV ultrafast electron diffraction. Surprisingly, a novel energy gap state, which might be a signature of light-induced superconductivity, is identified in the photoinduced 2D domain wall near the surface. Such optical modulation of atomic motion is a new path to realise 2D electronic states and will be a new platform for creating novel phases in quantum materials., Comment: 31 pages, 10 figures

Recently, Barber and Cand\`es laid the theoretical foundation for a general framework for false discovery rate (FDR) control based on the notion of "knockoffs." A closely related FDR control methodology has long been employed in the analysis of mass spectrometry data, referred to there as "target-decoy competition" (TDC). However, any approach that aims to control the FDR, which is defined as the expected value of the false discovery proportion (FDP), suffers from a problem. Specifically, even when successfully controlling the FDR at level $\alpha$, the FDP in the list of discoveries can significantly exceed $\alpha$. We offer FDP-SD, a new procedure that rigorously controls the FDP in the competition (knockoff / TDC) setup by guaranteeing that the FDP is bounded by $\alpha$ at any desired confidence level. Compared with the just-published general framework of Katsevich and Ramdas, FDP-SD generally delivers more power and often substantially so in simulated as well as real data., Comment: This revision focuses only on FDP-SD described in the original submission. We have performed low-temperature transport measurements on a disordered two-dimensional electron system (2DES). Features of the strong localization leading to the quantum Hall effect are observed after the 2DES undergoes a direct insulator-quantum Hall transition with increasing the perpendicular magnetic field. However, such a transition does not correspond to the onset of strong localization. The temperature dependences of the Hall resistivity and Hall conductivity reveal the importance of the electron-electron interaction effects to the observed transition in our study., Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures
