In this paper, we propose a novel parallel hierarchical Leiden-based algorithm for dynamic community detection. The algorithm, for a given batch update of edge insertions and deletions, partitions the network into communities using only a local neighborhood of the affected nodes. It also uses the inner hierarchical graph-based structure, which is updated incrementally in the process of optimizing the modularity of the partitioning. The algorithm has been extensively tested on various networks. Dual active galactic nuclei (AGNs) with comparable masses are commonly witnessed among the major merged galaxies with interaction remnants. Considering almost every massive galaxy is associated with multiple dwarf satellites around it, minor mergers involving galaxies with disproportional stellar masses should be much more common than major mergers, which would naturally lead to black hole (BH) pairs with significantly different masses. However, dual AGNs generated by minor mergers involving one or two dwarf galaxies are exceptionally rare and understudied. Moreover, good estimates of the masses of both BHs are not yet available to test this idea. Here we report the evidence of a dual AGN candidate with mass ratio $\sim$7:1 located in an undisturbed disk galaxy. We identify the central BH with mass of $9.4 \times 10^6M_\odot$ from its radio emission as well as AGN-driven galactic-scale biconical outflows. The off-centered BH generates obvious broad and narrow emission-line regions, which gives us a robust estimation of a $1.3 \times 10^6M_\odot$ BH mass. We explore alternative scenarios for explaining the observational features of this system, including the complex gas kinematics triggered by central AGN activity and dust attenuation of the broad-line region of the central BH, finding that they failed to fully account for the kinematics of both the redshifted off-centered broad and narrow emission-line components., Comment: Published in ApJL on 30 January 2025; 14 pages, 7 figures, 1 table

Based on new obtained analytical results, the main properties of photon echo quantum memory protocols are analysed and discussed together with recently achieved experimental results. The main attention is paid to studying the influence of spectral dispersion and nonlinear interaction of light pulses with resonant atoms. The distinctive features of the effect of spectral dispersion on the quantum storage of broadband signal pulses in the studied echo protocols are identified and discussed. Using photon echo area theorem, closed analytical solutions for echo protocols of quantum memory are obtained, describing the storage of weak and intense signal pulses, allowing us to find the conditions for the implementation of high efficiency in the echo protocols under strong nonlinear interaction of signal and control pulses with atoms. The key existing practical problems and the ways to solve them in realistic experimental conditions are outlined. We also briefly discuss the potential of using the considered photon echo quantum memory protocols in a quantum repeater.

We continue to present the results of a Byurakan Narrow Band Imaging Survey (BNBIS). In this work we present the results of the search and further detailed investigation of the objects, found in the course of the BNBIS survey in the southern part of the Mon R2 association. For the search of HH objects the narrow band images, obtained with the 1-m Schmidt telescope of the Byurakan Observatory, were used. Newly found objects were imaged in optical and near-IR range with the Apache Point Observatory 3.5 meter telescope, and observed spectrally with long-slit spectrograph and scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer on 6 m telescope of Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences using SCORPIO-2. We found three new HH groups: HH 1233, HH 1234 and HH 1235, two of them represent extended collimated flows. HH 1233 is the C-shape bipolar outflow system associated with the 2MASS 06084223$-$0657385 source star. HH 1234 is the helical chain of HH knots near the star V963 Mon. HH 1235 is a separate compact knot, connected with the visible only in mid- and far-IR source WISE J060856.57$-$070103.5. We found also several molecular hydrogen outflows, one of which coincides with HH 1233 and two other are associated with the deeply embedded IR sources in the same field. One more probable bipolar H$_2$ outflow is related to WISE J060856.57$-$070103.5. The emission spectra and spectral energy distributions of the source stars were analyzed. According to them they should be under rather early evolutional stage.

We continue to study the structure and kinematics of HH flows. Herbig-Haro (HH) flows exhibit large variety of morphological and kinematical structures. Both proper motion (PM) and radial velocity investigations are essential to understand the physical nature of such structures. We investigate the kinematics and PM of spectrally separated structures in the PV Cep HH flow HH 215. We present the observational results obtained with a 6 m telescope (Russia) using the SCORPIO multi-mode focal reducer with scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer. Two epochs of the observations of the PV Cep region in H$\alpha$ and [SII] emission (2003 and 2020-2021) allowed us to study the morphology of HH 215 jet in detail and to measure the PM and the radial velocities for its inner structures. Already known emission knots in the HH 215 flow and new features were studied. Moreover, a newly-formed HH knot was revealed, presumably formed during the large maximum of PV Cep star in 1976-1977. We found the high-velocity inner channel in the HH 215 ionized outflow, oriented accordingly to the mean direction of the whole HH outflow and the axis of the symmetry of the reflection nebula. The HH-knots located along the axis of the high-velocity channel have a position angle coinciding with its axis (abut 325$^{\circ}$), however other ones have completely different value (about 25$^{\circ}$), which supports the idea that those knots are formed by oblique shocks. We derived the value of i $\approx$ 30$^{\circ}$$\pm$ 5$^{\circ}$ for the inclination angle between the flow axis and the line of sight. The total length of HH 215 outflow should be about 0.2 pc, and the full length of the bipolar outflow from PV Cep (HH 315 + HH 215) can be estimated as 3.6 pc, assuming that it more or less keeps the same inclination angle.

We present a time-dependent quantum calculations of the first order and second order photon correlation functions for the scattering of a single-photon pulse on a two-level atom (qubit) embedded in a one-dimensional open waveguide. Within Markov approximation we find the analytic expression for the quantum operator of positive frequency electric field. We restricted Hilbert space of initial states by the states with one and two excitations and show that the photon probability amplitudes are given by the off-diagonal matrix elements of the electric field operator between these states. For two-excitation initial state where the atom is excited and there exists a single photon in a waveguide we calculate the second order correlation function which describes the measurements by two detectors at two different space-time points. The second order correlation function exhibits the interference term showing that the measurements of two detectors are correlated. This interference is similar to that found in the Hanbury Brown and Twiss correlation experiment with two indistinguishable photons., Comment: 17 pages, 3 figures, 38 references

In countries with a growing number of elderly and a shrinking workforce, one of which is Russia, it becomes impossible to maintain a solidary pension system and a need to switch to a more stable funded system appears. This paper analyzes various scenarios of Russia's transition to such a system. This is the first study on the Russian economy in which an Overlapping Generations Model is used to simulate the pension transition. It is demonstrated that in the long term, the transition to a funded system slightly reduces the welfare of pensioners, and during the transition, the situation of pensioners deteriorates strongly. However, it is also important to emphasize that the transition imposes a heavy burden on all generations living during the reform, they are forced to consume less and greatly change their savings, while also often starting to work more. Such conclusions are made concerning average population cohorts, and the results may not be the same for different groups of individuals within these cohorts. Results of a study of physical parameters of stellar population in star formation regions in galaxies with signs of peculiarity NGC 3963 and NGC 7292 are presented. The study was carried out based on the analysis of photometric (UBVRI bands), H-alpha and spectroscopic data obtained by the authors, using evolutionary models of stellar population. Among 157 star formation regions identified in galaxies, the young stellar population mass estimates were obtained for 16 of them and the age estimates were obtained for 15. The age of star formation regions clearly correlates with the presence of emission in the H-alpha line: HII regions in the galaxies are younger than 6-8 Myr, and the regions without gas emission are older. The studied objects are included in the version 3 of our catalogue of photometric, physical and chemical parameters of star formation regions, which includes 1667 objects in 21 galaxies. The ComPair balloon instrument is a prototype gamma-ray telescope that aims to further develop technology for observing the gamma-ray sky in the MeV regime. ComPair combines four detector subsystems to enable parallel Compton scattering and pair-production detection, critical for observing in this energy range. This includes a 10 layer double-sided silicon strip detector tracker, a virtual Frisch grid low energy CZT calorimeter, a high energy CsI calorimeter, and a plastic scintillator anti-coincidence detector. The inaugural balloon flight successfully launched from the Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility site in Fort Sumner, New Mexico, in late August 2023, lasting approximately 6.5 hours in duration. We propose a quantum memory based on the pre-created long-lived macroscopic quantum coherence. It is shown that the proposed approach provides new physical properties and methods for retrieval of the signal light fields and improvement of the basic parameters of quantum memory. We demonstrate how the pre-created coherence can enable quantum storage with low quantum noise, programmable and on demand retrieval of signal light fields in atomic ensembles with natural inhomogeneous broadening. The feasibility of implementing this proposal in various crystals doped with rare earth ions, as well as in atomic gases with a Raman transition indicates a new way for the development of optical quantum memory.

We show that swallowtail catastrophe consisting of various-order non-Hermitian and Hermitian degeneracies naturally exists in the dynamics of two-mode driven-dissipative quadrature squeezing systems that break pseudo-Hermiciticy by judiciously engineered losses. We reveal that the swallowtail degeneracy structure enables nontrivial braiding of complex eigenvalues by looping around an exceptional line in the parameter space. Neutral hydrogen (HI) is the primary component of the cool interstellar medium (ISM) and is the reservoir of fuel for star formation. Owing to the sensitivity of existing radio telescopes, our understanding of the evolution of the ISM in galaxies remains limited, as it is based on only a few hundred galaxies detected in HI beyond the local Universe. With the high sensitivity of the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST), we carried out a blind HI search, the FAST Ultra-Deep Survey (FUDS), which extends to redshifts up to 0.42 and a sensitivity of 50 $\rm \mu Jy \cdot beam^{-1}$. Here, we report the first discovery of six galaxies in HI at $z>0.38$. For these galaxies, the FAST angular resolution of $\sim\,4'$ corresponds to a mean linear size of $\sim1.3\,h_{70}^{-1}\,$Mpc. These galaxies are among the most distant HI emission detections known, with one having the most massive HI content ($10^{10.93 \pm 0.04}~h_{70}^{-2}\, \rm M_\odot$). Using recent data from the DESI survey, and new observations with the Hale, BTA, and Keck telescopes, optical counterparts are detected for all galaxies within the 3-$\sigma$ positional uncertainty ($0.5\,h_{70}^{-1}\,$Mpc) and $\rm 200\,km \cdot s^{-1}$ in recession velocity. Assuming that the dominant source of HI is the identified optical counterpart, we find an evidence of evolution in the HI content of galaxies over the last 4.2 Gyr. Our new high-redshift HI galaxy sample provides the opportunity to better investigate the evolution of cool gas in galaxies. The ComPair gamma-ray telescope is a technology demonstrator for a future gamma-ray telescope called the All-sky Medium Energy Gamma-ray Observatory (AMEGO). The instrument is composed of four subsystems, a double-sided silicon strip detector, a virtual Frisch grid CdZnTe calorimeter, a CsI:Tl based calorimeter, and an anti-coincidence detector (ACD). The CsI calorimeter's goal is to measure the position and energy deposited from high-energy events. To demonstrate the technological readiness, the calorimeter has flown onboard a NASA scientific balloon as part of the GRAPE-ComPair mission and accumulated around 3 hours of float time at an altitude of 40 km. During the flight, the CsI calorimeter observed background radiation, Regener-Pfotzer Maximum, and several gamma-ray activation lines originating from aluminum.

This paper examines the graph partition problem and introduces a new metric, MSIDS (maximal sum of inner degrees squared). We establish its connection to the replication factor (RF) optimization, which has been the main focus of theoretical work in this field. Additionally, we propose a new partition algorithm, DBH-X, based on the DBH partitioner. We demonstrate that DBH-X significantly improves both the RF and MSIDS, compared to the baseline DBH algorithm. In addition, we provide test results that show the runtime acceleration of GraphX-based PageRank and Label propagation algorithms.

We present the results of the optical identification and spectroscopic redshift measurements of 216 galaxy clusters detected in the SRG/eROSITA all-sky X-ray survey. The spectroscopic observations were performed in 2020-2023 with the 6-m BTA telescope at the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the 2.5-m telescope at the Caucasus Mountain Observatory of the Sternberg Astronomical Institute of the Moscow State University, the 1.6-m AZT-33IK telescope at the Sayan Solar Observatory of the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the 1.5-m Russian-Turkish telescope (RTT-150) at the T\"{U}B\.{I}TAK Observatory. For all of the galaxy clusters presented here the spectroscopic redshift measurements have been obtained for the first time. Of these, 139 galaxy clusters have been detected for the first time in the SRG/eROSITA survey and 22 galaxy clusters are at redshifts $z_{spec} \gtrsim 0.7$, including three at $z_{spec} \gtrsim 1$. Deep direct images with the rizJK filters have also been obtained for four distant galaxy clusters at $z_{spec} > 0.7$. For these observations the most massive clusters are selected. Therefore, most of the galaxy clusters presented here most likely will be included in the cosmological samples of galaxy clusters from the SRG/eROSITA survey.

We identify a fading AGN SDSS J220141.64+115124.3 from the internal Product Launch-11 (MPL-11) in Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory (MaNGA) survey. The central region with a projected radius of $\sim$2.4 kpc is characterized as LINER-like line ratios while the outskirts extended to $\sim$15 kpc show Seyfert-like line ratios. The [OIII]$\lambda$5007 luminosity of the Seyfert regions is a factor of 37 (2) higher than the LINER regions without (with) dust attenuation correction, suggesting that the AGN activity decreases at least $\sim$8 $\times$ 10$^3$ yrs ($\sim$2.4 kpc/light-speed) ago. We model the emission line spectra in the central region with double Gaussian components (a narrow core and a broad wing) and analyze the properties of each component. The narrow core component mostly co-rotates with the stellar disc, whereas the broad wing component with a median of the velocity dispersion $\sim$300 km s$^{-1}$ is related to a wind outflow. The kinematic position angle (PA) of the ionized gas shows a $\sim$20{\deg} twist from the galaxy center to 1.5 effective radius. The median of the PA difference between the gas and stellar components is as large as $\sim$50{\deg} within 0.4 effective radius. The tidal feature in DESI image and star-gas misalignment suggest this galaxy is a merger remnant. Combining all these observational results as well as public available X-ray and MIR luminosities, we confirm this is a fading AGN, the merger process kick-started the central engine to quasar phase which ionized gas composed of tidal debris, and now the activity of the central black hole decreases. We show how the area theorem is applicable to the analytical description of the nonlinear interaction of surface plasmon modes with resonant two-level atoms. A closed analytical solution is obtained, which shows that surface plasmons can form long-propagating $2\pi$ pulses when interacting with an optically dense two-level atomic ensemble. The possible applications of the surface pulse area theorem and the conditions for the detection of $2\pi$ surface plasmon pulses are discussed.

In this Letter, we report a first experimental realization of bright ultra-broadband (180 THz) fiber-based biphoton source with widely spectrally separated signal and idler photons. Such a two-photon source is realized due to the joint use of broadband phase-matching of interacting light waves and high optical nonlinearity of a silica-core photonic crystal fiber. The high performance of the developed fiber source identifies it as an important and useful tool for a wide range of optical quantum applications.

We present the results of a search for Extended Emission-Line Regions (EELRs) ionized by extant or recently-faded active galactic nuclei (AGN), using [O III] narrowband imaging and spectroscopic followup. The sample includes 198 galaxies in 92 strongly interacting or merging galaxy systems in the range z=0.009-0.0285. Among these, three have EELRs extended beyond 10 kpc in projection from the nucleus detected in previous studies. We identify a single new distant emission region, projected 35 kpc from UGC 5941. Our optical spectrum does not detect He II, but its strong-line ratios put this in the same class as securely characterized EELR clouds. The nucleus of UGC 5941 is dominated by recent star formation, preventing detection of any weak ongoing AGN. Overall counts of distant EELRs in this and the previous TELPERION samples give incidence 2-5% depending on galaxy and AGN selection, 20-50 times higher than the Galaxy Zoo EELR survey with its higher surface-brightness threshold and much larger input sample. AGN in interacting and merging systems have an increased detection rate $12+/-6$%, while none are detected around noninteracting AGN. Planetary nebulae are one of the final stages in the evolution of low and intermediate mass stars. They occur in a variety of shapes. Older and fainter ones are generally more difficult to identify because of the lower surface brightness. This paper reports the serendipitous discovery of a new faint Galactic planetary nebula (PN), during a campaign to identify dwarf galaxies, companions of the spiral galaxy NGC 2403. We aim at confirming the nature as PN of a diffuse object identified in the Camelopardalis constellation. We obtained narrow-band filter images and spectra of the nebula and its central star with amateur and professional telescopes having diameters from 20 cm to 6 m. We detected a dense triangular nebula, surrounded by an elliptical region, named Cam nebula. They are part of a larger and fainter circular nebular structure, named TBG-1, at the centre of which we have identified the possible central star, a white dwarf with a temperature of about 22 000 K. The analysis of the spectrum made it possible to measure the physical characteristics of the nebula, in particular its electronic density and temperature. Analysis of the images, of the spectra of the nebula and of the central star confirm the PN nature of TBG-1, located at the distance of about 1 kpc. We present a study of the nearby low-metallicity dwarf galaxy IC 1613, focusing on the search for massive stars and related feedback processes, as well as for faint supernova remnants (SNR) in late stages of evolution. We obtained the deepest images of IC 1613 in the narrow-band H{\alpha}, He II and [S II] emission lines and new long-slit spectroscopy observations using several facilities (6-m BTA, 2.5m SAI MSU, and 150RTT telescopes), in combination with the multi-wavelength archival data from MUSE/VLT, VLA, XMM-Newton, and Swift/XRT. Our deep narrow-band photometry identifies several faint shells in the galaxy, and we further investigate their physical characteristics with the new long-slit spectroscopy observations and the archival multi-wavelength data. Based on energy balance calculations and assumptions about their possible nature, we propose that one of the shells is a possible remnant of a supernova explosion. We study five out of eight Wolf-Rayet (WR) star candidates previously published for this galaxy using the He ii emission line mapping, MUSE/VLT archival spectra, and new long-slit spectra. Our analysis discards the considered WR candidates and finds no new ones. We found P Cyg profiles in H{\alpha} line in two stars, which we classify as Luminous Blue Variable (LBV) star candidates. Overall, the galaxy IC 1613 may have a lower rate of WR star formation than previously suggested.

We investigated the ionised and atomic gas kinematics and excitation state in the central region of ongoing star formation of the nearby low-metallicity dwarf galaxy Sextans B. The analysis is based on the new observations performed in Ha emission line with high resolution ($R \sim 16000$) scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer at the 6-m BTA SAO RAS telescope, and on the long-slit spectral observations at the 9.2-m SALT and 2.5-m CMO SAI MSU telescopes. Strong non-circular gas motions detected in the studied regions probably resulted from the off-plane gas motions and impact of stellar feedback. We identified six regions of elevated Ha velocity dispersion, five of which exhibit asymmetric or two-component Ha line profiles. Three of these regions are young ($<1.1$ Myr) expanding ($V_{\rm exp} \sim 25-50\ {\rm km\ s^{-1}}$) superbubbles. We argue that at least three regions in the galaxy could be supernova remnants. We conclude that supernovae feedback is the dominant source of energy for superbubbles in Sextans B, which is expected for such a low metallicity, although we cannot rule out a strong impact of pre-supernova feedback for one superbubble., Comment: 16 pages, 6+6 figures, 4 tables. submitted to MNRAS after revision

The similarity in physical conditions in winds of low-mass post-asymptotic giant branch stars and evolved massive stars leads to the appearance of an interesting phenomenon of spectral mimicry. Due to that the discovery of every new star with Wolf--Rayet spectrum requires special study of its evolutionary status before it may be included in the list of Galactic Wolf--Rayet (WR) stars. A couple of years ago LAMOST J040901.83+323955.6 (hereafter J0409+3239) was selected as a WR star in LAMOST spectroscopic database by machine learning methods. In this work we investigated its evolutionary status. Analyzing the spatial location of J0409+3239, in the Galaxy and its position in the color-magnitude diagram we concluded what J0409+3239, is instead a low mass object with WR phenomenon. Its luminosity is $L*=1000 L_\odot$ and effective temperature $T_{\rm eff}$=40,000 K. Using new and archival photometric data we detected irregular variability on time scales from hours to tens of days with amplitude up to $\approx0.2$ mag. Comparison of the spectrum obtained in 2022 with the one from 2014 also shows an evidence of spectral variability. The absence of clearly detected circumstellar nebula does not allow to classify J0409+3239, as [WR], i.e. a central star of planetary nebula (CSPN). However, its position in Hertzsprung--Russell diagram suggests that J0409+3239, is a low mass star caught in rare transitional phase to CSPN. Estimation of J0409+3239, mass based on evolutionary tracks shows that it is less than $0.9~M_\odot$, and thus the age of the Galaxy is barely enough for the star to evolve to its current stage., Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures, 3 tables, accepted for publication in MNRAS

This report introduces a new family of multimodal models, Gemini, that exhibit remarkable capabilities across image, audio, video, and text understanding. The Gemini family consists of Ultra, Pro, and Nano sizes, suitable for applications ranging from complex reasoning tasks to on-device memory-constrained use-cases. Evaluation on a broad range of benchmarks shows that our most-capable Gemini Ultra model advances the state of the art in 30 of 32 of these benchmarks - notably being the first model to achieve human-expert performance on the well-studied exam benchmark MMLU, and improving the state of the art in every one of the 20 multimodal benchmarks we examined. We believe that the new capabilities of the Gemini family in cross-modal reasoning and language understanding will enable a wide variety of use cases. We discuss our approach toward post-training and deploying Gemini models responsibly to users through services including Gemini, Gemini Advanced, Google AI Studio, and Cloud Vertex AI.

Ionization cones and relativistic jets give us one of the most large-scale example of active galactic nuclei (AGN) influence on the surrounding gas environment in galaxies and beyond. The study of ionization cones makes it possible not only to test the predictions of the unified model of galactic activity, but also to probe galaxy gas environment and trace how the luminosity of the nucleus changes over time (a light echo). In the external galactic or even extragalactic gas ionization cones create Extended Emission-Line Regions (EELRs) which can span distances from several to hundreds kpc away a host galaxy. We review the recent results of studying the gas kinematics and its ionization properties in EELRs with a special attention to search of fading AGN radiation on the time scale $\mbox{few}\times(10^4-10^5)$ yr. Mrk 783 is a narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxy that possesses a relatively large two-sided radio emission extending up to 14 kpc from the active nucleus possibly connected with a large-scale ionized gas emission. We obtained a deep [OIII] image that revealed an extended system of emission knots and diffuse ionized gas surrounding the main galaxy. The high-excited gas is related not only with the radio structure, but also with tidal features illuminated by the active nucleus radiation up to the projected distance 41 kpc as it follows from the emission lines intensities and kinematics derived from the long-slit spectroscopic data. Moreover the part of the disk of the companion galaxy SDSS J130257.20+162537.1 located at 99 kpc projected distances to the north of Mrk 783 also falls in the AGN ionizing cone. It is possible that Mrk 783 can be considered as `Hanny's Voorwerp precursor', i.e. a galaxy that demonstrates signs of sequential switching from radio-loud to radio-quiet nuclear activity, in the moment before falling of its ionization luminosity., Comment: 15 pages, 7 figures, 2 table. Detailed measurements of the spectral structure of cosmic-ray electrons and positrons from 10.6 GeV to 7.5 TeV are presented from over 7 years of observations with the CALorimetric Electron Telescope (CALET) on the International Space Station. Because of the excellent energy resolution (a few percent above 10 GeV) and the outstanding e/p separation (10$^5$), CALET provides optimal performance for a detailed search of structures in the energy spectrum. The analysis uses data up to the end of 2022, and the statistics of observed electron candidates has increased more than 3 times since the last publication in 2018. By adopting an updated boosted decision tree analysis, a sufficient proton rejection power up to 7.5 TeV is achieved, with a residual proton contamination less than 10%. The observed energy spectrum becomes gradually harder in the lower energy region from around 30 GeV, consistently with AMS-02, but from 300 to 600 GeV it is considerably softer than the spectra measured by DAMPE and Fermi-LAT. At high energies, the spectrum presents a sharp break around 1 TeV, with a spectral index change from -3.15 to -3.91, and a broken power law fitting the data in the energy range from 30 GeV to 4.8 TeV better than a single power law with 6.9 sigma significance, which is compatible with the DAMPE results. The break is consistent with the expected effects of radiation loss during the propagation from distant sources (except the highest energy bin). We have fitted the spectrum with a model consistent with the positron flux measured by AMS-02 below 1 TeV and interpreted the electron + positron spectrum with possible contributions from pulsars and nearby sources. In this paper, we study the spatiotemporal distribution of the photon electric field produced by the scattering of a single photon narrow pulse from a system of two identical qubits coupled to continuum modes in a one-dimensional (1D) open waveguide. We derive the time-dependent dynamical equations for qubits' and photon amplitudes which allow the calculation of the photon backward and forward scattering fields in the whole space: before qubits, between qubits, and behind the qubits. The scattered field consists of several contributions that describe a free field of incoming photon, a spontaneous exponential decay of excited qubits, a slowly decaying part that dies out as the inverse powers of $t$, and a lossless part that represents a steady state solution as $t\rightarrow\infty$. For our system, we find the transmittance and reflectance fields as both time and distance from the qubits tend to infinity. We show that as the time after the event of scattering tends to infinity, the steady state photon the field is being formed in the whole one-dimensional space. If the distance $d$ between qubits is equal to the integer of the wavelength $\lambda$, the field energy exhibits temporal beatings between the qubit frequency $\Omega$ and the photon frequency $\omega_S$ with the period $T=2\pi/(\omega_S-\Omega)$., Comment: 19 pages, 11 Figures, 39 References

The S254-258 star-forming complex is a place of massive star formation where five OB-stars have created HII regions, visible as optical nebulae, and disrupted the parental molecular gas. In this work, we study the 3D structure of these \HII regions using optical spectroscopy and tunable-filter photometry with the 6-m and 1-m telescopes of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences. We construct maps of the optical extinction, and find that the HII emission is attenuated by neutral material with $2 \leq A_V \leq 5$ mag. The typical electron density in S255, and S257 is $\approx 100$ cm$^{-3}$, with enhancements up to 200 cm$^{-3}$ in their borders, and up to 400 cm$^{-3}$ toward the dense molecular cloud between them, where active star formation is taking place. We show that either a model of a clumpy dense neutral shell, where UV~photons penetrate through and ionize the gas, or a stellar wind, can explain the shell-like structure of the ionized gas. S255 is surrounded by neutral material from all sides, but S257 is situated on the border of a molecular cloud and does not have dense front and rear walls. The paper presents results of studying the kinematics of the ionized gas in the galaxy of the Large Magellanic Cloud type NGC 7292 obtained with the 2.5-m telescope of the Caucasian Mountain Observatory (CMO SAI MSU) and the 6-m BTA telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory (SAO RAS). Analysis of the velocity fields of the ionized and neutral hydrogen showed that the kinematic center of NGC 7292 located at the center of the bar, northwest of the photometric center of the galaxy (the southeastern end of the bar) previously taken as the center of NGC 7292. In addition to the circular rotation of the gas, the radial motions associated with the bar play a significant role in the kinematics of the disk. The observed perturbations of the gaseous-disk kinematics induced by the ongoing star formation do not exceed those caused by the bar. The Compton Pair (ComPair) telescope is a prototype that aims to develop the necessary technologies for future medium energy gamma-ray missions and to design, build, and test the prototype in a gamma-ray beam and balloon flight. The ComPair team has built an instrument that consists of 4 detector subsystems: a double-sided silicon strip detector Tracker, a novel high-resolution virtual Frisch-grid cadmium zinc telluride Calorimeter, and a high-energy hodoscopic cesium iodide Calorimeter, all of which are surrounded by a plastic scintillator anti-coincidence detector. These subsystems together detect and characterize photons via Compton scattering and pair production, enable a veto of cosmic rays, and are a proof-of-concept for a space telescope with the same architecture. A future medium-energy gamma-ray mission enabled through ComPair will address many questions posed in the Astro2020 Decadal survey in both the New Messengers and New Physics and the Cosmic Ecosystems themes. We study the dynamics of a single-photon pulse travelling through a linear qubit chain coupled to continuum modes in a one-dimensional (1D) photonic waveguide. We derive a time-dependent dynamical theory for qubit amplitudes and for transmitted and reflected spectra. We show that the requirement for the photon-qubit coupling to exist only for positive frequencies can significantly change the dynamics of the system. First, it leads to an additional photon-mediated dipole-dipole interaction between qubits which results in the violation of the phase coherence between them. Second, the spectral lines of transmitted and reflected spectra crucially depend on the shape of the incident pulse and the initial distance between the pulse center and the first qubit in the chain. We apply our theory to one-qubit and two-qubit systems. For these two cases, we obtain the explicit expressions for the qubits' amplitudes and the photon radiation spectra as time tends to infinity. We present 294 pulsars found in GeV data from the Large Area Telescope (LAT) on the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope. Another 33 millisecond pulsars (MSPs) discovered in deep radio searches of LAT sources will likely reveal pulsations once phase-connected rotation ephemerides are achieved. A further dozen optical and/or X-ray binary systems co-located with LAT sources also likely harbor gamma-ray MSPs. This catalog thus reports roughly 340 gamma-ray pulsars and candidates, 10% of all known pulsars, compared to $\leq 11$ known before Fermi. Half of the gamma-ray pulsars are young. Of these, the half that are undetected in radio have a broader Galactic latitude distribution than the young radio-loud pulsars. The others are MSPs, with 6 undetected in radio. Overall, >235 are bright enough above 50 MeV to fit the pulse profile, the energy spectrum, or both. For the common two-peaked profiles, the gamma-ray peak closest to the magnetic pole crossing generally has a softer spectrum. The spectral energy distributions tend to narrow as the spindown power $\dot E$ decreases to its observed minimum near $10^{33}$ erg s$^{-1}$, approaching the shape for synchrotron radiation from monoenergetic electrons. We calculate gamma-ray luminosities when distances are available. Our all-sky gamma-ray sensitivity map is useful for population syntheses. Herein, we describe the design, implementation and operation principles of an astronomical camera system, based on a large-format CCD261-84 detector with an extremely thick 200 mkm substrate. The DINACON-V controller was used with the CCD to achieve high performance and low noise. The CCD system photometric characteristics are presented. A spatial autocorrelation analysis of flat-field images was performed to reveal the dependence of substrate voltage on the lateral charge spreading. The investigation of the dispersion index for the optimal choice of exposure time is discussed. Studies of the patterns of fringes were carried out in comparison with previous detectors. The amplitude of fringes with CCD261-84 was significantly lower, compared to previous-generation detectors. The results of using a new camera for imaging and spectral observations at the Russian 6 m telescope with the SCORPIO-2 multimode focal reducer are considered. We present a scheme of quantum repeater that uses entangled multimode coherent states which are obtained by electro-optic modulation of symmetric and antisymmetric Schr\"odinger cat states. In this method subcarrier modes of the phase modulated states generated by the remote parties are sent to a symmetric beam splitter at the central node. The entangled coherent states are heraldedly prepared by photon counting measurements at the output channels of the beam splitter. We study how the effects of decoherence in the quantum channel affect statistics of photocounts and corresponding fidelity. We show how the proposed scheme can be useful for extending range of quantum key distribution with sub carrier wave encoding by exploiting quantum teleportation with the generated entanglement., Comment: 18 pages, 10 figures

We derive the area theorem for light pulses interacting with inhomogeneously broadened ensemble of two-level atoms in a single-mode optical waveguide and present its analytical solution for Gaussian-type modes, which demonstrates the significant difference from the formation of $2\pi$ pulses by plane waves. We generalize this theorem to the description of photon echo and apply it to the two-pulse (primary) echo and the revival of silenced echo (ROSE) protocol of photon echo quantum memory. For the first time, we implemented ROSE protocol in a single-mode laser-written waveguide made of an optically thin crystal $Tm^{3+}:Y_3Al_5O_{12}$. The experimental data obtained are satisfactorily explained by the developed theory. Finally, we discuss the obtained experimental results and possible applications of the derived pulse area approach.

Dual encoders have been used for retrieval tasks and representation learning with good results. A standard way to train dual encoders is using a contrastive loss with in-batch negatives. In this work, we propose an improved contrastive learning objective by adding queries or documents from the same encoder towers to the negatives, for which we name it as "contrastive loss with SAMe TOwer NEgatives" (SamToNe). By evaluating on question answering retrieval benchmarks from MS MARCO and MultiReQA, and heterogenous zero-shot information retrieval benchmarks (BEIR), we demonstrate that SamToNe can effectively improve the retrieval quality for both symmetric and asymmetric dual encoders. By directly probing the embedding spaces of the two encoding towers via the t-SNE algorithm (van der Maaten and Hinton, 2008), we observe that SamToNe ensures the alignment between the embedding spaces from the two encoder towers. Based on the analysis of the embedding distance distributions of the top-$1$ retrieved results, we further explain the efficacy of the method from the perspective of regularisation., Comment: ACL 2023 Findings

We present the observation of a charge-sign dependent solar modulation of galactic cosmic rays (GCRs) with the CALorimetric Electron Telescope onboard the International Space Station over 6 yr, corresponding to the positive polarity of the solar magnetic field. The observed variation of proton count rate is consistent with the neutron monitor count rate, validating our methods for determining the proton count rate. It is observed by the CALorimetric Electron Telescope that both GCR electron and proton count rates at the same average rigidity vary in anticorrelation with the tilt angle of the heliospheric current sheet, while the amplitude of the variation is significantly larger in the electron count rate than in the proton count rate. We show that this observed charge-sign dependence is reproduced by a numerical ``drift model'' of the GCR transport in the heliosphere. The aim of the present study was the spectral analysis of an unusual pre-main-sequence star in the cometary nebula RNO 54, which was suspected by several researchers as a FUori-like object. We performed long-slit spectroscopy of the star on the 6-m telescope with the SCORPIO-2 multi-mode focal reducer. We discover a short ($\sim4$ arcsec or $\sim6000$ AU) and faint emission shock-excited jet from this star, probably oriented toward the long axis of the nebular ellipse. The spectral type of the star is estimated as G0-2 II; the split of absorption Li I line which is a typical sign indicating the FUori-like spectrum, is confirmed. The analysis of the available data shows virtual absence of the photometric variability, for at least the last 20 years. The lower limit of the bolometric luminosity of the star is estimated as 300 Lsun. We present the results of a direct measurement of the cosmic-ray helium spectrum with the CALET instrument in operation on the International Space Station since 2015. The observation period covered by this analysis spans from October 13, 2015 to April 30, 2022 (2392 days). The very wide dynamic range of CALET allowed to collect helium data over a large energy interval, from ~40 GeV to ~250 TeV, for the first time with a single instrument in Low Earth Orbit. The measured spectrum shows evidence of a deviation of the flux from a single power-law by more than 8$\sigma$ with a progressive spectral hardening from a few hundred GeV to a few tens of TeV. This result is consistent with the data reported by space instruments including PAMELA, AMS-02, DAMPE and balloon instruments including CREAM. At higher energy we report the onset of a softening of the helium spectrum around 30 TeV (total kinetic energy). Though affected by large uncertainties in the highest energy bins, the observation of a flux reduction turns out to be consistent with the most recent results of DAMPE. A Double Broken Power Law (DBPL) is found to fit simultaneously both spectral features: the hardening (at lower energy) and the softening (at higher energy). A measurement of the proton to helium flux ratio in the energy range from 60 GeV/n to about 60 TeV/n is also presented, using the CALET proton flux recently updated with higher statistics.

Microwave quantum memory promises advanced capabilities for noisy intermediate-scale superconducting quantum computers. Existing approaches to microwave quantum memory lack complete combination of high efficiency, long storage time, noiselessness and multi-qubit capacity. Here we report an efficient microwave broadband multimode quantum memory. The memory stores two spectral modes of single photon level microwave radiation in on-chip system of eight coplanar superconducting resonators. Single mode storage shows a power efficiency of up to $60\pm 3\%$ at single photon energy and more than $73\pm 3\%$ at higher intensity. The demonstrated efficiency is an order of magnitude larger than the previously reported multimode microwave quantum memory. The noiseless character of the storage is confirmed by coherent state quantum process tomography. The demonstrated results pave the way to further increase in efficiency and hence building a practical multimode microwave memory for superconducting quantum circuits., Comment: 14 pages, 8 figures

We develop the integrated efficient multiresonator quantum memory scheme based on a system of three interacting resonators coupled through a common resonator to an external waveguide via switchable coupler. It is shown that high-precision parameter matching based on the step-by-step optimization makes it possible to efficiently store the signal field and on demand retrieval the signal at specified time moments. New results on the radio-quiet type 2 quasar known as the Teacup galaxy (SDSSJ1430+1339) based on the long-slit and 3D spectroscopic data obtained at the Russian 6-m telescope are presented. The ionized gas giant nebula extending up to r=56 kpc in the [O III] emission line was mapped with the scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer. The direct estimation of the emission line ratios confirmed that the giant nebula is ionized by the AGN. Stars in the inner r<5 kpc are significantly younger than the outer host galaxy and have a solar metallicity. The central starburst age (~1 Gyr) agrees with possible ages for the galactic merger events and the previous episode of the quasar outflow produced two symmetric arcs visible in the [O III[ emission at the distances r=50-55 kpc. Pulse area approach has been established as a versatile analytical tool for studying the resonant interaction between the light and the resonant atomic ensemble. In recent years photon and spin echoes in cavity assisted schemes become increasingly interesting. In this article we develop the photon echo pulse area approach to describe primary and multi-pulse echo generation in the atomic ensemble placed in the ring cavity. We show that the pulse area approach predicts relative echo magnitudes and whether the system is operating in a single- or a multi-pulse generation regime. We also analyze the conditions needed for the realization of these generation regimes. This work develops the pulse area theorem approach for analytical study of photon/spin echoes in optical and microwave cavities and echo based protocols of quantum memory., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures

The new observational data concerning distribution, excitation, and kinematics of the ionized gas in the giant early-type disk galaxy NGC 2655 obtained at the 6m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory (SAO RAS) and at the 2.5m telescope of the Caucasian Mountain Observatory of the Sternberg Astronomical Institute (CMO SAI MSU) are presented in this work. The joint analysis of these and earlier spectral observations has allowed us to make a conclusion about multiple nature of the gas in NGC 2655. Together with a proper large gaseous disk experiencing regular circular rotation in the equatorial plane of the stellar potential of the galaxy for billions years, we observe also remnants of a merged small satellite having striked the central part of NGC 2655 almost vertically for some 10 million years ago., Comment: 22 pages, 8 figures, to appear in the Astrophysical Bulletin 2022, no.4

We present the results of the optical identification, classification, as well as analysis of photometric and spectral observations of the X-ray transient SRGe2149+6736 detected by the eROSITA telescope during SRG all-sky X-ray survey. Photometric observations of the optical companion of SRGe2149+6736 were carried out on 6m telescope BTA SAO RAS, 1.5m Russian-Turkish telescope RTT-150 and 2.5m telescope CMO of Moscow State University. Together with ZTF data they showed that the source is a cataclysmic variable with an orbital period $P=85\pm0.4$~min which demonstrates long-term brightness variability from $23.5$~mag (low state) to $20$~mag (high state). The high-state light curves are consistent with a model of accreting magnetic white dwarf and suggest that SRGe2149+6736 belongs to AM~Her type variables. The optical spectra obtained in the low state are consistent with a spectral energy distribution of a white dwarf with a temperature of ~24000 K.

Though S0 galaxies are usually thought to be `red and dead', they often demonstrate weak star formation organised in ring structures and located in their outer disks. We try to clarify the nature of this phenomenon and its difference from star formation in spiral galaxies. The moderate-luminosity nearby S0 galaxy, UGC 4599, is studied here. By applying long-slit spectroscopy at the Russian 6m telescope, we have measured stellar kinematics for the main body of the galaxy and strong emission-line flux ratios in the ring. After inspecting the gas excitation in the ring using line ratio diagrams and having shown that it is ionized by young stars, we have determined the gas oxygen abundance by using conventional strong-line calibration methods. We have inspected the gas kinematics in the ring with Fabry-Perot interferometer data obtained at the William Herschel Telescope. The pattern and properties of the brightest star formation regions are studied with the tunable filter MaNGaL at the 2.5m telescope of the Caucasian Mountain Observatory of the Sternberg Astronomical Institute (CMO SAI MSU). The gas metallicity in the ring is certainly subsolar, [O/H]$=-0.4 \pm 0.1$~dex, that is different from the majority of the outer starforming rings in S0s studied by us which have typically nearly solar metallicity. The total stellar component of the galaxy which is old in the center is less massive than its extended gaseous disk. We conclude that probably the ring and the outer disk of UGC~4599 are a result of gas accretion from a cosmological filament., Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication in Astronomy & Astrophysics

We present the measurement of the energy dependence of the boron flux in cosmic rays and its ratio to the carbon flux \textcolor{black}{in an energy interval from 8.4 GeV$/n$ to 3.8 TeV$/n$} based on the data collected by the CALorimetric Electron Telescope (CALET) during $\sim 6.4$ years of operation on the International Space Station. An update of the energy spectrum of carbon is also presented with an increase in statistics over our previous measurement. The observed boron flux shows a spectral hardening at the same transition energy $E_0 \sim 200$ GeV$/n$ of the C spectrum, though B and C fluxes have different energy dependences. The spectral index of the B spectrum is found to be $\gamma = -3.047\pm0.024$ in the interval $25 < E < 200$ GeV$/n$. The B spectrum hardens by $\Delta \gamma_B=0.25\pm0.12$, while the best fit value for the spectral variation of C is $\Delta \gamma_C=0.19\pm0.03$. The B/C flux ratio is compatible with a hardening of $0.09\pm0.05$, though a single power-law energy dependence cannot be ruled out given the current statistical uncertainties. A break in the B/C ratio energy dependence would support the recent AMS-02 observations that secondary cosmic rays exhibit a stronger hardening than primary ones. We also perform a fit to the B/C ratio with a leaky-box model of the cosmic-ray propagation in the Galaxy in order to probe a possible residual value $\lambda_0$ of the mean escape path length $\lambda$ at high energy. We find that our B/C data are compatible with a non-zero value of $\lambda_0$, which can be interpreted as the column density of matter that cosmic rays cross within the acceleration region., Comment: main text: 7 pages, 3 figures; supplemental material: 13 pages, 8 figures, 3 tables

Electron-positron pair production is the essential process for high-energy gamma-ray astrophysical observations. Following the pioneering OSO-3 counter telescope, the field evolved into use of particle tracking instruments, largely derived from high-energy physics detectors. Although many of the techniques were developed on balloon-borne gamma-ray telescopes, the need to escape the high background in the atmosphere meant that the breakthrough discoveries came from the SAS-2 and COS-B satellites. The next major pair production success was EGRET on the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory, which provided the first all-sky map at energies above 100 MeV and found a variety of gamma-ray sources, many of which were variable. The current generation of pair production telescopes, AGILE and Fermi LAT, have broadened high-energy gamma-ray astrophysics with particular emphasis on multiwavelength and multimessenger studies.
