The China Space Station Telescope (CSST) is a two-meter space telescope with multiple back-end instruments. The Fine Guidance Sensor (FGS) is an essential subsystem of the CSST Precision Image Stability System to ensure the required absolute pointing accuracy and line-of-sight stabilization. In this study, we construct the Main Guide Star Catalog for FGS. To accomplish this, we utilize the information about the FGS and object information from the Gaia Data Release 3. We provide an FGS instrument magnitude and exclude variables, binaries, and high proper motion stars from the catalog to ensure uniform FGS guidance capabilities. Subsequently, we generate a HEALPix index, which provides a hierarchical tessellation of the celestial sphere, and employ the Voronoi algorithm to achieve a homogeneous distribution of stars across the catalog. This distribution ensures adequate coverage and sampling of the sky. The performance of the CSST guide star catalog was assessed by simulating the field of view of the FGS according to the CSST mock survey strategy catalog. The analysis of the results indicates that this catalog provides adequate coverage and accuracy. A significant number of double white dwarfs (DWDs) are believed to merge within the Hubble time due to the gravitational wave (GW) emission during their inspiraling phase. The outcome of a DWD system is either a type Ia Supernova as the double-degenerate model, or a massive, long-lasting merger remnant. Expected multi-messenger signals of these events will help us to distinguish detailed merging physical processes. In this work, we aim to provide a generic scenario of DWD merging, investigate the emission of all major messengers, with a focus on GWs and neutrinos. Our goal is to provide some guidance for current and future (collaborative) efforts of multi-messenger observations. Throughout the merging evolution of a DWD system, different messengers (GW, neutrino and electromagnetic wave) will dominate at different times. In this work, we show that DWD merger events located at the distance of 1 kpc can indeed produce detectable signals of GWs and neutrinos. The GW frequency are in 0.3-0.6 Hz band around 10 days before tidal disruption begin. We estimate that in optimistic situations, the neutrino number detected by upcoming detectors such as JUNO and Hyper-Kamiokande can reach O(1) for a DWD merging event at $\sim$ 1 kpc., Comment: 14pages, 5 figures

The longstanding goals of federated learning (FL) require rigorous privacy guarantees and low communication overhead while holding a relatively high model accuracy. However, simultaneously achieving all the goals is extremely challenging. In this paper, we propose a novel framework called hierarchical federated learning (H-FL) to tackle this challenge. Considering the degradation of the model performance due to the statistic heterogeneity of the training data, we devise a runtime distribution reconstruction strategy, which reallocates the clients appropriately and utilizes mediators to rearrange the local training of the clients. In addition, we design a compression-correction mechanism incorporated into H-FL to reduce the communication overhead while not sacrificing the model performance. To further provide privacy guarantees, we introduce differential privacy while performing local training, which injects moderate amount of noise into only part of the complete model. Recently there has been a huge interest in dialog systems. This interest has also been developed in the field of the medical domain where researchers are focusing on building a dialog system in the medical domain. This research is focused on the multi-turn dialog system trained on the multi-turn dialog data. It is difficult to gather a huge amount of multi-turn conversational data in the medical domain that is verified by professionals and can be trusted. However, there are several frequently asked questions (FAQs) or single-turn QA pairs that have information that is verified by the experts and can be used to build a multi-turn dialog system.

The Compact Spectrometer for Heavy Ion Experiment (CSHINE) is under construction for the study of isospin chronology via the Hanbury Brown$-$Twiss (HBT) particle correlation function and the nuclear equation of state of asymmetrical nuclear matter. The CSHINE consists of silicon strip detector (SSD) telescopes and large-area parallel plate avalanche counters, which measure the light charged particles and fission fragments, respectively. In phase I, two SSD telescopes were used to observe 30 MeV/u $^{40}$Ar +$^{197}$Au reactions. The results presented here demonstrate that hydrogen and helium were observed with high isotopic resolution, and the HBT correlation functions of light charged particles could be constructed from the obtained data.

Microcapsules are a key class of microscale materials with applications in areas ranging from personal care to biomedicine, and with increasing potential to act as extracellular matrix (ECM) models of hollow organs or tissues. Such capsules are conventionally generated from non-ECM materials including synthetic polymers. Here, we fabricated robust microcapsules with controllable shell thickness from physically- and enzymatically-crosslinked gelatin and achieved a core-shell architecture by exploiting a liquid-liquid phase separated aqueous dispersed phase system in a one-step microfluidic process. Microfluidic mechanical testing revealed that the mechanical robustness of thicker-shell capsules could be controlled through modulation of the shell thickness. Furthermore, the microcapsules demonstrated environmentally-responsive deformation, including buckling by osmosis and external mechanical forces. A sequential release of cargo species was obtained through the degradation of the capsules. Stability measurements showed the capsules were stable at 37 {\deg}C for more than two weeks. Finally, all-aqueous liquid-liquid phase separated and multiphase liquid-liquid phase separated systems were generated with the gel-sol transition of microgel precursors. Monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) exhibit high nonlinear optical (NLO) susceptibilities. Experiments on MoS$_2$ have indeed revealed very large second-order ($\chi^{(2)}$) and third-order ($\chi^{(3)}$) optical susceptibilities. However, third harmonic generation results of other layered TMDs has not been reported. Furthermore, the reported $\chi^{(2)}$ and $\chi^{(3)}$ of MoS$_2$ vary by several orders of magnitude, and a reliable quantitative comparison of optical nonlinearities across different TMDs has remained elusive. Here, we investigate second- and third-harmonic generation, and three-photon photoluminescence in TMDs. Specifically, we present an experimental study of $\chi^{(2)}$, and $\chi^{(3)}$ of four common TMD materials (\ce{MoS2}, \ce{MoSe2}, \ce{WS2} and \ce{WSe2}) by placing different TMD flakes in close proximity to each other on a common substrate, allowing their NLO properties to be accurately obtained from a single measurement. $\chi^{(2)}$ and $\chi^{(3)}$ of the four monolayer TMDs have been compared, indicating that they exhibit distinct NLO responses. We further present theoretical simulations of these susceptibilities in qualitative agreement with the measurements. Semiconductor nanowires (NWs) are promising for realizing various on-chip nonlinear optical devices, due to their nanoscale lateral confinement and strong light-matter interaction. However, high-intensity pulsed pump lasers are typically needed to exploit their optical nonlinearity because light couples poorly with nanometric-size wires. Here, we demonstrate microwatts continuous-wave light pumped second harmonic generation (SHG) in AlGaAs NWs by integrating them with silicon planar photonic crystal cavities. Light-NW coupling is enhanced effectively by the extremely localized cavity mode at the subwavelength scale. Strong SHG is obtained even with a continuous-wave laser excitation with a pump power down to ~3 uW, and the cavity-enhancement factor is estimated around 150. Additionally, in the integrated device, the NW's SHG is more than two-order of magnitude stronger than third harmonic generations in the silicon slab, though the NW only couple s with less than 1% of the cavity mode. This significantly reduced power-requirement of NW's nonlinear frequency conversion would promote NW-based building blocks for nonlinear optics, specially in chip-integrated coherent light sources, entangled photon-pairs and signal processing devices.

In this work, a serial on-line cluster reconstruction technique based on FPGA technology was developed to compress experiment data and reduce the dead time of data transmission and storage. At the same time, X-ray imaging experiment based on a two-dimensional positive sensitive triple GEM detector with an effective readout area of 10 cm*10 cm was done to demonstrate this technique with FPGA development board. The result showed that the reconstruction technology was practicality and efficient. It provides a new idea for data compression of large spectrometers.

Deep learning, as a promising new area of machine learning, has attracted a rapidly increasing attention in the field of medical imaging. Compared to the conventional machine learning methods, deep learning requires no hand-tuned feature extractor, and has shown a superior performance in many visual object recognition applications. In this study, we develop a deep convolutional neural network (CNN) and apply it to thoracic CT images for the classification of lung nodules. We present the CNN architecture and classification accuracy for the original images of lung nodules. In order to understand the features of lung nodules, we further construct new datasets, based on the combination of artificial geometric nodules and some transformations of the original images, as well as a stochastic nodule shape model. It is found that simplistic geometric nodules cannot capture the important features of lung nodules.

Muon tomography is developing as a promising system to detect high-Z (atomic number) material for ensuring homeland security. In the present work, three kinds of spatial locations of materials which are made of aluminum, iron, lead and uranium are simulated with GEANT4 codes, which are horizontal, diagonal and vertical objects, respectively. Two statistical algorithms are used with MATLAB software to reconstruct the image of detected objects, which are the Point of Closet Approach (PoCA) and Maximum Likelihood Scattering-Expectation Maximization iterative algorithm (MLS-EM), respectively. Two analysis methods are used to evaluate the quality of reconstruction image, which are the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) and the localization ROC (LROC) curves, respectively. The reconstructed results show that, compared with PoCA algorithm, MLS-EM can achieve a better image quality in both edge preserving and noise reduction. And according to the analysis of ROC (LROC) curves, it shows that MLS-EM algorithm can discriminate and exclude the presence and location of high-Z object with a high efficiency, which is more flexible with an different EM algorithm employed than prior work. Furthermore the MLS-EM iterative algorithm will be modified and ran in parallel executive way for improving the reconstruction speed.

We introduce a simple approach to fabricate aligned carbon nanotube (ACNT) device for broadband polarization control in fiber laser systems. The ACNT device was fabricated by pulling from as-fabricated vertically-aligned carbon nanotube arrays. Their anisotropic property is confirmed with optical and scanning electron microscopy, and with polarized Raman and absorption spectroscopy. The device was then integrated into fiber laser systems (at two technologically important wavelengths of 1 and 1.5 um) for polarization control. We obtained a linearly-polarized light output with the maximum extinction ratio of ~12 dB. The output polarization direction could be fully controlled by the ACNT alignment direction in both lasers. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that ACNT device is applied to polarization control in laser systems. Our results exhibit that the ACNT device is a simple, low-cost, and broadband polarizer to control laser polarization dynamics, for various photonic applications (such as material processing, polarization diversity detection in communications), where the linear polarization control is necessary., Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures

A high-efficiency fast neutron detector prototype based on a triple Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) detector, which coupled with a novel multi-layered High-Density PolyEthylene (HDPE) as a neutron-to-proton converter for improving the neutron detection efficiency, is introduced and tested with the Am-Be neutron source in Institute of Modern Physics (IMP) at Lanzhou in present work. Firstly, the developed triple GEM detector is tested by measuring its effective gain and energy resolution with $^{55}$Fe X-ray source to ensure that it has a good performance. The effective gain and obtained energy resolution is 5.0$\times$10$^{4}$ and around of 19.2\%, respectively. And secondly, the novel multi-layered HDPE converter is coupled with the cathode of the triple GEM detector make it a high-effective fast neutron detector. And its effective neutron response is four times higher than that of the traditional single-layered conversion technique when the converter layer number is 38., Comment: 6 pages, 8 figures

In this paper, error analysis is established for Runge-Kutta discontinuous Galerkin (RKDG) methods to solve the Vlasov-Maxwell system. This nonlinear hyperbolic system describes the time evolution of collisionless plasma particles of a single species under the self-consistent electromagnetic field, and it models many phenomena in both laboratory and astrophysical plasmas. The methods involve a third order TVD Runge-Kutta discretization in time and upwind discontinuous Galerkin discretizations of arbitrary order in phase domain. With the assumption that the exact solution has sufficient regularity, the $L^2$ errors of the particle number density function as well as electric and magnetic fields at any given time $T$ are bounded by $C h^{k+\frac{1}{2}}+C\tau^3$ under a CFL condition $\tau /h \leq \gamma$. Here $k$ is the polynomial degree used in phase space discretization, satisfying $k \geq \left \lceil \frac{d_x + 1}{2} \right \rceil$ (the smallest integer greater than or equal to $\frac{d_x+1}{2}$, with $d_x$ being the dimension of spatial domain), $\tau$ is the time step, and $h$ is the maximum mesh size in phase space. Both $C$ and $\gamma$ are positive constants independent of $h$ and $\tau$, and they may depend on the polynomial degree $k$, time $T$, the size of the phase domain, certain mesh parameters, and some Sobolev norms of the exact solution. The analysis can be extended to RKDG methods with other numerical fluxes and to RKDG methods solving relativistic Vlasov-Maxwell equations.

A normal pressure MWPC for beam diagnostics at RIBLL2 has been developed, which has a sensitive area of 80 mm$\times$80 mm and consists of three-layer wire planes. The anode plane is designed with a wider frame to reduce the discharge and without using protection wires. The detector has been tested with a $^{55}$Fe X-ray source and a 200 MeV/u $^{12}$C beam from CSRm. A position resolution better than 250 $\upmu$m along the anode wires and a detection efficiency higher than 90% have been achieved., Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures
