Abstract
Jill Roe: Searching for the Spirit: Theosophy in Australia, 1879-1939. Considering the earlier scandal, allegations were bound to fly about Leadbeater's closeness to Krishnamurti, yet Roe is more concerned to read Leadbeater as inheriting male chauvinism from his petit-bourgeois background (pp. 177-78). Then there is Roe's detailing of that concert between Leadbeater and Besant in the choice of the young motherless boy at Adyar, Krishtmamurti, to be groomed (from 1910) as the vehicle for the new World Teacher (pp. 131, 178).
