The aim of this presentation is to show how Charlotte Perkins Gilman and Kate Chopin manipulate temporality to foreground their themes in "The Yellow Wall-Paper" and "The Story of an Hour" in the light of Gérard Genette's theory of time. Both stories present female characters oppressed by the patriarchal authority in the marriage and their attempts to liberate themselves from this oppression. The aim is to find out how the gender of the author or protagonist in the narration can affect the time of narration. Gérard Genette's theory of time (order) is applied to these short stories in order to confirm that the theme of the story affects the time of narration regarding women's status in the narration. The results are in agreement with feminist narratologists who believe that the female authors use techniques of time in the narration purposefully to resist or negotiate with patriarchy in the process of women's liberation. This paper examines Im Sun-deuk's two short stories, "Iryoil" (Sunday, 1937) and "Nazuke oya" (A Godmother, 1942). Im, an active participant in Korea's socialist movement in the 1930s, turned to literature as her career at a time when Japanese colonial authorities had tightened their control over Korea to further the Japanese empire's colonial expansion into China. In the process, the Japanese implemented an assimilation policy to mobilize the Korean people into the Japanese war effort. By employing the concept of confession in "Iryoil'' and "Nazuke oya," Im projects an autobiographical self onto her protagonists, both of whom are modern women striving to preserve their identities as socially conscious intellectuals committed to nationalism, socialism, and feminism. By positioning her protagonists as confessors to other characters in the texts, Im's short stories portray intellectuals in colonial Korea as in conflict or harmony with her protagonists. Im's protagonists embody female subjects who find a new kind of womanhood under Japanese colonial rule. However, in "Nazuke oya," Im's protagonist displays a more flexible and open attitude toward Koreans with attitudes and beliefs different from her own. In this sense, the act of confession as presented in Im's texts is an attempt to build a bond and sense of community among the Korean people from a woman's perspective, and at a time when Korean identity risked becoming obsolete. Foregrounding the voices of minority women in England, Scotland and France, Minority Women and Austerity provides a rich and compelling account of austerity’s lived effects. Through its intersectional analyses and historically attendant frame, the book locates minority women’s experiences of austerity not as fundamentally “new” but rather as an extension and sharpening of conditions of “routinized crisis” and inequality. In doing so it compels its readers to ask: whose crisis counts? In this review paper, I summarize the book’s key contributions. In particular, I discuss the book’s theorizations of “political racelessness” to critique the erasure of minority women’s experiences and activism. I reflect on what this means for those researching austerity and its deleterious effects, and for those participating in anti-austerity activism. Adele M. Fielde (1839-1916), at one time an unmarried missionary of the American Baptist Mission Union (ABMU), was known in her old age as a writer, a social activist，a scientist and a champion of women's rights. She was famous for her work in training "Bible-women" (or female evangelists) between 1873-89 in Chaozhou prefecture in northeast Guangdong, South China. After laboring as a missionary teacher in the Orient for almost twenty-five years，Pielde resigned from missionary service in November 1889, insisting that her connection with the ABMU be ended permanently before her return to America. Current research looking at her: final “divorce” from her: missionary career offers an inadequate explanation for her actions. This paper seeks to revisit this question by focusing on the cultural and social difficulties Fielde encountered in Chaozhou. An examination of Fielde's diary，her personal correspondence (letters to and from the ABMU and firiends)，books，articles and pamphlets，along with her co-workers， correspondence and the records of the АВМU, reveal that the public reason Fielde gave for her resignation--heart disease--was solely for the public record; whereas in fact it was her changed religious beliefs and disappointment with mission work that were the two decisive factors prompting her resignation, in which there were also some clear gender inequality issues involved as well. Catullus 63 is one of the most unusual of Latin poems, and also one of the most difficult for literary interpreters. In this paper I would like to discuss it from three angles, connected by the common factor of change or alteration: ethnicity, the poem's alteration of Attis' previous ethnic identity to make him Greek and to stress the contrast with the poem's Asiatic setting; gender, its transsexual use of previous female literary characters as models for Attis' two speeches;2) and genre, the literary form of the poem and its alteration and mixture of various types of generic antecedent.
