Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer, causing a large majority of deaths but accounting for only ~1% of all skin cancer cases. The worldwide incidence of malignant melanoma is increasing, causing a serious socio-economic problem. Melanoma is diagnosed mainly in young and middle-aged people, which distinguishes it from other solid tumors detected mainly in mature people. The early detection of cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM) remains a priority and it is a key factor limiting mortality. Doctors and scientists around the world want to improve the quality of diagnosis and treatment, and are constantly looking for new, promising opportunities, including the use of microRNAs (miRNAs), to fight melanoma cancer. This article reviews miRNA as a potential biomarker and diagnostics tool as a therapeutic drugs in CMM treatment. This systematic review was conducted to gather evidence of preeclampsia occurring before the 20th week of gestation, additionally considering the role of PLGF and sFlt-1 in the development of the disease. In the three cases of preeclampsia before the 20th week of gestation presented in the authors' material, all pregnancies ended up with IUFD, and the SFlt-1/PLGF ratios were significantly elevated in all women. Eligible publications were identified with searches in the PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science databases. No date or language restrictions were made. All original peer-reviewed scientific reports were included. A total of 30 publications were included in the final report, including case reports and case series. No other publication types regarding this issue were identified. In the literature, 34 cases of preeclampsia with onset occurring before the 20th week of gestation were identified, for a final total of 37 cases. Live births were reported in 5 cases (10.52%), and there were 9 intrauterine fetal demises (24.32%), and 23 terminations of pregnancy (62.16%). Preeclampsia before the 20th week of gestation is rare but can occur. We collected all available evidence regarding this phenomenon, with 37 cases reported worldwide. We call for large-scale cohort or register-based studies to establish revised definitions or develop new ones regarding the currently unrecognized very early onset preeclampsia. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune and inflammatory disease leading to joint destruction. The causes of RA are not fully known. Most likely, the development of the disease depends on the coexistence of many factors, such as hereditary factors, immune system defects, gender, infectious agents, nicotine, and stress. Various epigenetic changes have been identified and correlated with the aggressive phenotype of RA, including the involvement of sirtuins, which are enzymes found in all living organisms. Their high content in the human body can slow down the aging processes, reduce cell death, counteract the appearance of inflammation, and regulate metabolic processes. Sirtuins can participate in several steps of RA pathogenesis. This narrative review presents, collects, and discusses the role of all sirtuins (1–7) in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis. Melanoma is one of the most aggressive and progressive skin cancers. It develops from normal pigment-producing cells known as melanocytes, so it is important to know the mechanism behind such transformations. The study of metastasis mechanisms is crucial for a better understanding the biology of neoplastic cells. Metastasis of melanoma, or any type of cancer, is a multi-stage process in which the neoplastic cells leave the primary tumour, travel through the blood and/or lymphatic vessels, settle in distant organs and create secondary tumours. MicroRNA (miRNA) can participate in several steps of the metastatic process. Gastric cancer is a major health burden worldwide. Among all neoplasms, gastric cancer is the fifth most common and the third most deadly type of cancer. It is known that sirtuins (SIRTs), are NAD+-dependent histone deacetylases regulating important metabolic pathways. High expression of SIRTs in the human body can regulate metabolic processes; they prevent inflammation but also resist cell death and aging processes. The seven members of this family enzymes can also play a fundamental role in process of carcinogenesis by influencing cell viability, apoptosis and metastasis. Space travelers are exposed to microgravity (µg), which induces enhanced bone loss compared to the age-related bone loss on Earth. Microgravity promotes an increased bone turnover, and this obstructs space exploration. This bone loss can be slowed down by exercise on treadmills or resistive apparatus. The objective of this systematic review is to provide a current overview of the state of the art of the field of bone loss in space and possible treatment options thereof. A total of 482 unique studies were searched through PubMed and Scopus, and 37 studies met the eligibility criteria. The studies showed that, despite increased bone formation during µg, the increase in bone resorption was greater. Different types of exercise and pharmacological treatments with bisphosphonates, RANKL antibody (receptor activator of nuclear factor κβ ligand antibody), proteasome inhibitor, pan-caspase inhibitor, and interleukin-6 monoclonal antibody decrease bone resorption and promote bone formation. Additionally, recombinant irisin, cell-free fat extract, cyclic mechanical stretch-treated bone mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes, and strontium-containing hydroxyapatite nanoparticles also show some positive effects on bone loss. A Salmonella ovarian abscess is a rare entity, and is similarly uncommon in cases with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. To the best of our knowledge, thirty four cases of Salmonella ovarian abscess have been published in the literature, and only four of them were related to Systemic Lupus Eritematosus. Many practical applications of statistical post-processing methods for ensemble weather forecasts require accurate modeling of spatial, temporal, and inter-variable dependencies. Over the past years, a variety of approaches has been proposed to address this need. We provide a comprehensive review and comparison of state-of-the-art methods for multivariate ensemble post-processing. We focus on generally applicable two-step approaches where ensemble predictions are first post-processed separately in each margin and multivariate dependencies are restored via copula functions in a second step. The comparisons are based on simulation studies tailored to mimic challenges occurring in practical applications and allow ready interpretation of the effects of different types of misspecifications in the mean, variance, and covariance structure of the ensemble forecasts on the performance of the post-processing methods. Overall, we find that the Schaake shuffle provides a compelling benchmark that is difficult to outperform, whereas the forecast quality of parametric copula approaches and variants of ensemble copula coupling strongly depend on the misspecifications at hand.
