This essay presents an analysis of the short story 'Bezoar', in the collection Pétalos y otras historias incómodas (2008) by Mexican author Guadalupe Nettel. Our reading departs from a mythical-religious semantic field in that we interpret the tale as the allegory of the narrator's personal cosmogony. We look at the symbolic and semantic mechanisms by which the narrative suggests the quest for a hierophanic experience at the same time as it configures a scriptural and regressive trip to the 'centre', to a 'primordial reality', which is ambivalent and that we associate with the realm of the sacred.
