Abstract

Bolzano's Betrachtungen, here reproduced with a few typographical changes to improve readability, was written when Bernard Bolzano (1781-1848) was still a theology student. The editors may have mentioned, on this concern, that several of Bolzano's unpublished "Gegenbemerkungen" ("counter observations") to the reviews of Betrachtungen are still extant among Bolzano's manuscripts (Krivsky et al. [2], 126). Especially with the latter goal in mind, Bolzano set out in the Betrachtungen two methodological rules with the aim of improving the theoretical part of mathematics.
