Objective: To systematically evaluate the association between maternal active smoking during pregnancy and Tourette syndrome (TS), chronic tic disorder (CTD), and developmental coordination disorder (DCD) in children, and to provide evidence-based medical references to reduce the incidence of neurodevelopmental disorders in children. Method: We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library to obtain relevant articles published before 4 August 2021. Two reviewers independently assessed the articles for eligibility and extracted data. Results: We included eight studies involving a total of 50,317 participants (3 cohort, 3 case–control, and 2 cross-sectional studies). The pooled effect estimates suggested that prenatal maternal active smoking is related to an increased risk of neurodevelopmental disorders (OR = 1.91, 95% CI: 1.30–2.80), especially DCD (OR = 2.25, 95% CI: 1.35–3.75). Maternal active smoking during pregnancy is not associated with TS (OR = 1.07, 95% CI: 0.66–1.73) in children. Conclusion: In this meta-analysis, we found evidence for a correlation between active smoking exposure in pregnant women and neurodevelopmental disorders in children. Prenatal exposure to vitamin D may play a significant role in human brain development and function. Previous epidemiological studies investigating the associations between maternal vitamin D status and offspring developmental and psychiatric outcomes in humans have been inconclusive. We aimed to systematically assess the results of previously published studies that examined the associations between maternal vitamin D levels, measured as circulating 25(OH)D levels in pregnancy or at birth, and offspring neuropsychiatric and psychiatric outcomes. Systematic searches were conducted using MEDLINE, Embase, PsychINFO and Web of Science for studies published by 10 August 2022. We included human observational studies that examined associations between prenatal or perinatal vitamin D levels and offspring neuropsychiatric and psychiatric outcomes and were published in English in peer-reviewed journals. Of the 3729 studies identified, 66 studies were screened for full texts and 29 studies published between 2003 and 2022 were included in the final review. There was a small amount of evidence for the association between prenatal vitamin D deficiency and autism spectrum disorder. When studies with larger sample sizes and stricter definitions of vitamin D deficiency were considered, positive associations were also found for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and schizophrenia. Background and Objective: More than five million individuals died because of problems connected to COVID-19. SARS-Cov-2 poses a particular challenge to expectant mothers, who comprise one of the most vulnerable segments of the population. Our aim is to demonstrate the maternal and neonatal safety of the COVID-19 vaccine during pregnancy.Methods: We searched PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus, Web of Science (WOS), Embase, Ovid, MedRxiv, and BioRxiv databases from inception till December 2021 and then updated it in April 2022. Additionally, we searched ClinicalTrials.gov, Research Square and grey literature. Cohort, case-control studies, and randomized controlled trials detecting the safety of the Covid-19 vaccine during pregnancy were included. We used the Cochrane tool and Newcastle-Ottawa Scale to assess the risk of bias of the included studies and the GRADE scale to assess the quality of evidence. A meta-analysis was conducted using review manager 5.4.Results: We included 13 studies with a total number of 56,428 patients. Our analysis showed no statistically significant difference in the following outcomes: miscarriage (1.56% vs 0.3%. RR 1.23; 95%CI 0.54 to 2.78); length of maternal hospitalization (MD 0.00; 95%CI -0.08 to 0.08); puerperal fever (1.71% vs 1.1%. RR 1.04; 95%CI 0.67 to 1.61); postpartum hemorrhage (4.27% vs 3.52%. RR 0.84; 95%CI 0.65 to 1.09); instrumental or vacuum-assisted delivery (4.16% vs 4.54%. RR 0.94; 95%CI 0.57 to 1.56); incidence of Apgar score ≤ 7 at 5 min (1.47% vs 1.48%. RR 0.86; 95%CI 0.54 to 1.37); and birthweight (MD -7.14; 95%CI -34.26 to 19.99).Conclusion: In pregnancy, the current meta-analysis shows no effect of SAR-CoV-2 vaccination on the risk of miscarriage, length of stay in the hospital, puerperal fever, postpartum hemorrhage, birth weight, or the incidence of an Apgar score of ≤ 7 at 5 min. Currently, information and communication technology (ICT) allows health institutions to reach disadvantaged groups in rural areas using sensing and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. Applications of these technologies are even more essential for maternal and infant health, since maternal and infant health is vital for a healthy society. Over the last few years, researchers have delved into sensing and artificially intelligent healthcare systems for maternal and infant health. Sensors are exploited to gauge health parameters, and machine learning techniques are investigated to predict the health conditions of patients to assist medical practitioners. Since these healthcare systems deal with large amounts of data, significant development is also noted in the computing platforms. The relevant literature reports the potential impact of ICT-enabled systems for improving maternal and infant health. This article reviews wearable sensors and AI algorithms based on existing systems designed to predict the risk factors during and after pregnancy for both mothers and infants. This review covers sensors and AI algorithms used in these systems and analyzes each approach with its features, outcomes, and novel aspects in chronological order. Suicidal ideation, a significant risk factor of suicide, is considered a potential trigger for intervention prior to self-harm or suicide; however, the prevalence of maternal suicidal ideation varied widely between studies. This review aims to synthesis the available evidence to estimate the prevalence of maternal suicidal ideation before and after pregnancy. We searched six English databases (PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, the Cochrane Library, PsycINFO, CINAHL) and three Chinese databases (China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wang Fang, Chinese Biomedical Literature Databases) from database inceptions before August 31, 2020; and checked the reference list for relevant studies. Data in the included studies were used to calculate the prevalence of maternal suicidal ideation. Subgroup analysis and meta-regression were performed to detect the potential sources of heterogeneity. 6094 potentially studies were identified. 71 studies, including 23 cohort studies, 47 cross-sectional studies, and 1 RCT study, were included for final analysis. The total participants were 92146, with sample size ranged from 23 to 22118. The included studies were from 23 different countries distributing on six continents, most of the studies were conducted in Asia (n = 18), North America (n = 16), and South America (n = 15). The pooled prevalence of maternal suicidal ideation reported by eligible studies was 8% (95% CI 7–10%), with 10% in antenatal and 7% in postpartum. Prevalence significantly varied based on measuring tools, study design, study countries, and publication year, while prevalence was not conditional on the time-point assessment, sample size, and maternal age. Obvious heterogeneity and no standardization tools for measuring suicidal ideation may limit the results' interpretation. Our systematic review reported the prevalence of suicidal ideation in pregnancy and postpartum was 8%. Breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure maternal and child health and survival. Objective: To analyze, through a bibliographic review, breastfeeding as an alternative for the prevention of maternal and infant diseases. Methodology: A systematic review was carried out on scientific bases such as LILACS, Pubmed, UNAM, Dialnet, Progress in Health Sciences, Revista Enfermeria Global, MedlinePlus, Revista Enfermeria CyL, Redalyc, during the period 2015-2020, including information in Spanish and English. Results: The literature search reported a total of 16475, but after applying selection criteria and evaluative reading, 31 articles were included for analysis because of their relevance and contribution to meeting the objective. Conclusion: Breastfeeding at the infant level prevents infectious diseases of the digestive and respiratory tract in the short and medium term and overweight and hypertension in the long term. • Most comprehensive review of Group B Streptococcal serotypes through 2018. • First systematic review of Group B Streptococcal strain type and protein data. • Theoretically candidate vaccines may protect against 93-99% disease-causing strains. • More studies on GBS strains in low- and middle-income countries are needed. 21 million pregnant women worldwide (18%) are estimated to carry Group B Streptococcus (GBS), which is a risk for invasive disease in newborns, pregnant women, and stillbirths. Adults ≥ 60 years or with underlying health conditions are also vulnerable to invasive GBS disease. We undertook systematic reviews on GBS organism characteristics including: capsular polysaccharide (serotype), sequence type (multi-locus sequence types (MLST)), and virulence proteins. We synthesised data by at-risk populations, to inform vaccine development. We conducted systematic reviews and meta -analyses to estimate proportions of GBS serotypes for at risk populations: maternal colonisation, invasive disease in pregnant women, stillbirths, infants 0–90 days age, and older adults (≥60 years). We considered regional variation and time trends (2001–2018). For these at-risk population groups, we summarised reported MLST and surface proteins. Based on 198 studies (29247isolates), 93–99% of GBS isolates were serotypes Ia, Ib, II, III, IV and V. Regional variation is likely, but data gaps are apparent, even for maternal colonisation which has most data. Serotype III dominates for infant invasive disease (60%) and GBS-associated stillbirths (41%). ST17 accounted for a high proportion of infant invasive disease (41%; 95%CI: 35–47) and was found almost exclusively in serotype III strains, less present in maternal colonisation (9%; 95%CI:6–13),(4%; 95%CI:0–11) infant colonisation, and adult invasive disease (4%, 95%CI:2–6). Percentages of strains with at least one of alp 1, alp2/3, alpha C or Rib surface protein targets were 87% of maternal colonisation, 97% infant colonisation, 93% infant disease and 99% adult invasive disease. At least one of three pilus islands proteins were reported in all strains. A hexavalent vaccine (serotypes Ia, Ib, II, III, IV and V) might provide comprehensive cover for all at-risk populations. Surveillance of circulating, disease-causing target proteins is useful to inform vaccines not targeting capsular polysaccharide. With the accelerated pace of economic development and modernization, air pollution has become one of the most focused public health problems. However, the impact of particulate matter exposure during pregnancy on childhood asthma and wheezing remains controversial. We performed this meta-analysis to explore the relationship between prenatal exposure to PM2.5 and childhood asthma and wheezing. Candidate papers were searched on PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library before July 15, 2019. The main characteristics of the included studies were extracted, and the quality was evaluated by the Newcastle–Ottawa Scale (NOS). A sensitivity analysis was performed to assess the impact of individual studies on the combined effects. The Egger and Begg tests were conducted to examine the publication bias. Nine studies were included in the final analysis. Prenatal exposure to PM2.5 significantly increased the risk of childhood asthma and wheezing (OR = 1.06, 95% CI 1.02–1.11; per 5 μg/m3). Maternal exposure was more strongly related to childhood asthma and wheezing before age 3 (OR = 1.15, 95% CI 1.00–1.31; per 5 μg/m3) than after (OR = 1.04, 95% CI 1.00–1.09; per 5 μg/m3). Children in developed countries showed more severe effects (OR = 1.14, 95% CI 1.02–1.27; per 5 μg/m3). Children who were born to mothers with higher levels of prenatal exposure were at higher risk of asthma and wheezing (OR = 1.07, 95% CI 1.02–1.13; per 5 μg/m3). This meta-analysis indicated that the impact of PM2.5 on childhood asthma and wheezing begins as early as utero, so regulating pollutant emission standards and strengthening prenatal protection are crucial to maternal and child health. An updated Medline search was performed 30th June 2018 to 31st October 2019. Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies reporting health outcomes of infants and children born to women who received inactivated influenza vaccine during pregnancy. The primary outcome was infant laboratory confirmed influenza (LCI). Secondary outcomes included influenza-like illness (ILI), other respiratory illnesses, primary care, clinic visit or hospitalisations due to influenza illness and long-term respiratory childhood outcomes. 19 studies were included; 15 observational studies and 4 primary RCTs with an additional 3 papers reporting secondary outcomes of these RCTs. In a random effects meta-analysis of 2 RCTs including 5742 participants, maternal influenza vaccination was associated with an overall reduction of LCI in infants of 34% (95% confidence interval 15–50%). However, there was no effect of maternal influenza vaccination on ILI in infants ≤6 months old. Two RCTs were excluded from the meta-analysis for the outcome of LCI in infants (different controls used). Both of these studies showed a protective effect for infants from LCI, with a vaccine efficacy of up to 70%. Overall observational studies showed an inverse (protective) association between maternal influenza vaccination and infant LCI, hospitalisation and clinic visits due to LCI or ILI in infants and other respiratory illness in infants ≤6 months old. This systematic review supports maternal influenza vaccination as a strategy to reduce LCI and influenza-related hospitalisations in young infants. Communicating these benefits to pregnant women may support their decision to accept influenza vaccination in pregnancy and increase vaccine coverage in pregnant women. PROSPERO CRD42018102776. The article focuses on postpartum maternal group B streptococcal (GBS) meningitis. The asymptomatic vaginal carrier rate of GBS in pregnancy has been estimated as 18-35%. GBS meningitis among adults is rare. The artilce presents a case of GBS meningitis in a 30 year odl women in the 40th week of pregnancy. Peripartum GBS meningitis is a very rare disorder and only 12 cases are reported in the literature since 1968. All of these patients were otherwise healthy and all had normal vaginal deliveries. Mean age was 27 years. Interestingly, there were no cases of GBS meningitis after a cesarean section, although the incidence of GBS bacteremia after cesarean section is 10-fold higher than after vaginal delivery.
