"A Culture of Curiosity: Science in the Eighteenth-Century Home" by Leonie Hannan challenges the traditional view of scientific enquiry during the Enlightenment. Hannan argues that science was not solely produced by male elites in the public sphere, but also by a diverse group of domestic scientists including apprentices, artisans, tradespeople, and housewives. Through the analysis of spatial and material resources in the home, domestic record keeping, and case studies of amateur weather diarists, Hannan demonstrates that scientific knowledge was accessible and disseminated through everyday practices and communication networks. The book offers a fresh perspective on the history of science and encourages scholars to construct new images of the past. [Extracted from the article]
