Highlights from the article: This book represents a fruitful and long promenade almost a personal Odyssean stroll taken by the authors through the realm of the hydraulics of water flow. One of the most important contributions of the book is that it replaces the old epithets of "gradually or rapidly varied" flow for the more meaningful non-hydrostatic flow Nevertheless, the authors do not limit themselves to that change, but they explore to an overwhelming extent the intricacies of free surface hydraulics. After a brilliant general introduction, the second chapter presents the vertically-integrated equations, including the effects of curved beds, friction, enhanced gravity and sediment transport.
