The article discusses that the important vexation in the axial flow turbine of a gas turbine, is the gas path fluid flow brought about by the existence of end walls. It mentions that these inner and outer surfaces constrain the working fluid as it passes through the turbine, bounding each airfoil and forming the gas path surfaces of the engine annular casing.
