Abstract

The article advocates for ways to expand the role of school library media specialists, focusing on the possible integration of close reading activities into library curricula. The concept of close reading is identified along with its place in the English and Language Arts section of the Common Core Standards. Discussion of how library media specialists can assist in meeting this requirement is given. Sample lesson plans and activities are also included.
