The article discusses the quantum cellular automata (QCA) which is part in the search for the next field effect transistor (FET) and a solution to density and power dissipation problems in molecular geometries. It notes that FET has been used as the workhorse of modern semiconductor industry in computing including analog and mixed-signal devices. It states that single-electrons like resonant tunneling diodes (RTD) and tunneling phase logic (TPL) offer advantages over the traditional FET.
