The article discusses the importance of proper selection of human/machine interfaces (HMIs) for ocean-going vessels. Discussion of the specific requirements of maritime HMIs which must come with the required certificates to ensure that they fit for maritime use is discussed. Information on the special application needs of the HMI ballast water purification systems to determine that they meet environmental requirements and different operating temperature is also emphasized.
