This article presents information related to treatment of mumps. Mumps parotitis, common in children, is a bilateral and tender but self-resolving viral infection. Symptoms include: pain during meals associated with swollen, tender glands suggests a calculus in the submandibular gland. Treatment of choice is surgery but local recurrence is common. Supraclavicular lymph nodes, especially on the left side, may be enlarged due to metastases from malignancies in the breast, abdomen and testes. Fine needle aspiration cytology is a useful diagnostic tool for neck lumps.
