The article offers information on the biodenitrification approach used at two water utilities in California. The water utilities use bacteria to create biofilms in reactors and use the biofilms to purify water in a concentrated, controlled manner in drinking water treatment plants. It is believed that biological water purification targets many contaminants in one reactor without generating costly waste streams.
